The Mario Cart lineup continues…

Saturday, March 13th

FNGs: welcome Yoshi!

This FNG was another recruit by Emeril.Ā  3 weeks prior Emeril had brought out 2 FNG’s that were named Mario and Luigi because of their moustache’s and also because they knew each other.Ā  Well it just so happened that Mario and Luigi knew the FNG so I had made up my mind during the ME he was going to be Yoshi…one of my favorite Mario Cart characters.Ā  The FNG did the standard introduction in front of the group but I decided to shut it down quickly in case some of the PAX needed to get over to Grounder Pounder.Ā  “Everyone say hello to Yoshi.”

Warm Up:Ā  Michael Phelps arms, 10x Windmills, 10x Daisy Pickers, 10x Imperial Walkers, OYO 25-30 Merkins.

Why Would 21 PAX Post for a Wednesday Run? Must Be the Sprints!

Was looking forward to Qā€™ing R4TJ because I wanted to do two things: Launch a new route and bring back sprints. Needed to get off Crossway for some variety, but wanted to retain the elevation gain. Had lots of ideas, but when it came to mapping, it was challenging. Plus, I told Bobby Bouche that Iā€™d map out a 3 mile option. Initial routes had too many turns, which lead to confusion and frustration. Finally occurred to me that Skymont to Daisy Grove was the perfect solution.

Must Be the Warm Up! Multiple PAX ECā€™d already. PAX kept rolling in as 0530 approached. Had to get in the middle of the parking lot where we could circle up. 21 PAX make a big circle. With so many ECā€™ers, I just wanted to warm up the remainder. SSH 25x, Daisy pickers 10x. We got a count and Bobby Bouche agreed to lead the 3.5-mile runners. We all took off. Felt like start of the HS Half.

Must Be the Route! HS Half start, climb Anchor Creek, right on Wellspring, down to the greenway, across the boardwalk. Beginning at the long boardwalk, Skymont goes straight up for a nice elevation gain. This is a very functional route. At the top of Skymont near Daisy Grove, 3.5-mile runners peel off at the greenway connection to Jones Park, head to HS Road, then follow Main back to Ting. At Daisy Grove, 5.5-mile runners turn left, make a couple of simple turns to get to Homegrown, then HS Road and Main to Ting. Finally, we all meet up at Ting for COT and sprints!

Must Be the Workout! This ā€œone hourā€ run that goes by like nothing. Why? The chatter, the junk talking, the climbs, the descents, the sunrise, the picking up the six, getting to know new PAX, catching with PAX you havenā€™t seen in a while, and finally, the shenanigansā€”ask Lipstick and Roger Roger. I tried to run with as many people as possible, while turning back for the six regularly. This was fun.

Must Be the Mary! No, actually it couldnā€™t be, there was no Mary
Must Be the COT!

Announcements: Long A$$ Run, March 27, multiple mileage options accompanied by multiple starting points, all end in Durham
Prayer: Maggie P and family

Must Be the Sprints! Yes, it must be the Sprints! All 21 of us lined up for sprints, yes! Wait, thatā€™s not what happenedā€¦ But, shout out to Bobby Bouche, UTI, and Lipstick for hammering out some sprint to AC/DC Long Way to the Top.

3 Ring Circus at U-Turn, but No Dumbo…

Q Tour rolled into U-Turn this morning. Nice brisk temps. Pre-Blast went out late last evening from YHC after assessing the multiple feeds on Slack to determine what many of the PAX were thinking heading into their Saturday runs. Saw many were looking to get in some early morning miles, some looking for 5 as usual and others feeling nostalgic, looking for the ‘old school’ U-Turn route. For YHC, the plan was to start em off with warm-up and close em down with COT, but lead a 3 mile route for those looking for shorter distance. The combination of age setting in, my stupidity on Monday ‘getting way after it’ at PC, as well as my unfortunate lack of common sense trying to make Emeril all salty during Indian runs has earned YHC a well-deserved hip issue. To that existent, YHC had to rely on the strength of the PAX to push each other during their 5 mile runs.

Lots of PAX rolling in from EC and also many rolling in for Main Event. Planted flag, exchanged pleasantries with several PAX. Around 5:58am, Pablo was seen coming in hot, but no co-pilot in the form of Dumbo to be found. After seeing some early morning feeds from Slack on my porcelain throne this morning, it appeared that a great evening was had by many PAX at the NC State game last night. Dumbo’s morning scratch, however, was about as disappointing as Danny Manning’s .411 winning percentage at Wake Forest to many PAX in attendance,Ā  including DawgPound, Pablo, and Emeril.

6:00am hit and after confirming no FNG’s we were off with the following warm-up.

Warm Up: Light jog around the lot with alternating carioca R\L, L\R. Continued on the light jog and circled up for SSH X15, Imperial Walkers X10, Hillbillies X10, Good Morning X 10 IC. Squat hold while YHC explained the options.

The Workout: Old School U-Turn with Dauber and Doc, Newer School (current standard U-Turn) route with 10min\mi and higher starting first, and a 3 mile with YHC, heading in either the New School or Old School direction. After explaining the route options, YHC sent the 10min pace groups first, but then Slide Rule said he’d have to be back before 7am, so would head out with the 10min group and then at that point after witnessing his long strides, the gazelles got triggered and just headed out all at once. They all knew what to do so…run pick up the six, repeat for 5 miles.

Boy George, Vasoline, and YHC stayed back, did some additional exercises to continue limbering up and to burn some time at the beginning so our 3mi route would end around the same time as some of the 1st PAX starting to filter in from their run. We chose new school route and headed up about 1.5 mi and just circled back to the lot. 15 PAX at the start and about 21ish PAX on the return for COT, accounting for those that headed out for early EC. Definitely didn’t lose anyone, but gained a few along the way.

Mary: OYO
Announcements: Dad-2.0 Workout with Mr. Terrific at 9am Womble.
T-Claps (Recognition): Deadbolt shaving 20seconds this morning compared to last week’s U-Turn post. Kudos to DawgPound with a strong finish at the end in picking up the six onto a solid 5mi run pacing around 9:13. All those getting extra miles out there this morning and pushing each other

Prayer: Continued prayers for Forceps. YHC took us out.

Wake Up Call

EC: Emeril, Axe, Lipstick

FNGs: Not today

YHC took a stroll behind Teeter on his EC route and noticed a couple things. 1) 3 giant tires he could incorporate into his workout 2) The beer man sleeping in his van.
Warm Up: 10 Burpees since Daddy Em was late coming back from the little boys room in Teeter. Mosey to Porta Potty behind Teeter to enjoy the smell during our warm ups. SSH x50,IW x10, Hilbillies x10, Morocan Nightclubs x12, hold squat for FAC x10 Fwd/Rev, Overhead Claps x10
The Workout: Mosey over to the guardrail behind Jiffy for sets of Dips x10 regular, left leg up and right leg up, Erkin sets x10 regular & Diamond, Derkin sets x10 regular & Diamond. Mosey over to wall behind dry cleaner for sets of Peoples chair 10 count around, BTTW 4 count around Pax. We repeated guardrail/wall combo twice. This was our second encounter with the beer man, as he was sleeping behind the dry cleaner, which was a different location than YHC saw him during EC.Ā  Next we mosey over to Goodwill for sets of Aligator Merkins across parking lot, Squat Jumps x10 and reverse crabwalk the parking lot back, Squat Jumps x10. We repeated this twice.Ā  We continued to Mosey over to the tires YHC found behind the Chinese Restaurant for what would have been 3-way Patty Cake Merkins while 3rd wheel flipped tires a few times and rotate. However, a delivery truck had come and parked right in front of the tires spoiling YHC’s final event.Ā  YHC quickly took us over to the trail to no where behind Teeter for the same 3-way but substituted 3rd wheel run out and back on the trail. YHC didn’t remember the trail was about .25/mile out and then back…The patty cake merkins got tiresome and we modified to patty cake squats when our arms gave out.Ā  On our way to the trail we encountered the beer man for a third time, sleeping behind the Pizza shop now.Ā  By the time we got back from the trail he was gone again.Ā  I don’t think he was happy with us breaking up his morning cat naps….
Mary: Low Slow Flutter, American Hammers, Boat Canoes and Pickle Pounders with chill cut hold in between for about 2 minutes.
Announcements:Ā  See the interwebs
T-Claps (Recognition): Java! Nice work since the new year. We can finally remove him from the milk carton.
Prayer: Wallaby, Wiggly/Father, Forceps/Leahy Family, Crablegs

38 at U-Turn – Record Number?

Regular U-turners, Marathon Maniacs, Shield Lockers! Heck, I might have been nervous about Qā€™ing if Iā€™d known that all you rascals were showing! But no, now closing in on 2 years of F3, I know yā€™all. Besides, I didnā€™t have time to think about it really, having stayed out past my bedtime with Baby Doll and our friends enjoying dinner and drinks. Then, in spite of waking early, an extra trip to the john meant leaving the house late. With all that, I rolled into the parking lot just before 6, only partially surprised to see 99 guys ready to go.

Warm up: I planted the flag, hit a few fists, then had to yell to get everyoneā€™s attention. Everyone was pretty jacked up already. We didnā€™t have room to circle up so we moseyed around a few islands doing cariocas and some butt kickers along the way. Upon circling up, I realized we were taking up most of the parking lot!

SSH 25x, GMs 10x, Hammy and Glute stretch 10 count each side.

COT: 36 plus 2 after UTI notified me that Aquaman and Maybelline had started already.

Prayer requests: Wallaby, Troops overseas
