That’ll Make You Feel Alive!

Stop #2 on my self imposed 5 day Q and EC tour.  This time, YHC hit the cozy confines of The Nest down in the heart of Fuquay-Varina with the promise of getting in some last day RUNE miles and to see some FV brothers I don’t see in the gloom so much. The Nest is an AO with quite a few features and lots of options for a solid Q.  One feature worth noting today would be road rash on the back and knees doing exercises today.  Good amount of gravel in the skin. It’s not a Possum Trot level surface, but many places at the Nest are not friendly.  This includes the grass.   Word of wisdom, don’t do burpees or merkins in the grass down by the entrance! You, like Buttermilk, May get to feel very “alive” if you do.  Not sure if it was fire ants, sand burs, or just grass thorns, but Buttermilk got some in his hands and apparently it’s not pleasant!

EC: Fanny Pack, Dovetail, Gamecock, 16 Bit, Boy George, Norm, Buttermilk.

FNG’s: Too soupy???
Warm Up: Circled up for Good Mornings, IW’s, HB,s, Frankenstein’s, Fazios, and Chinooks.  Mosey up to the street.
The Workout: With it being the last day of RUNE, YHC knew and pre- blasted there would be a fair amount of running. Ended up with about 2.5 during the workout today. Pax drew the 7 of Diamonds to get that done today.  Each corner around the perimeter of the park for each round had: 7 burpees, 14 WW2’s, 21 Jack Webb’s ( 7 merkins with 21 air presses), and 28 Shoulder Taps. Pax all did a great job of taking duty and calling counts.

Mosey to wall and partnered up. 1 partner does People’s Chair while other bear crawls to the curb and does Irkins to a 5 count, bear crawl back.  Switch. We did this on a descending count of Irkins from 5 to 1.

There was some mumblechatter and disagreements about mileage today so YHC wanted to put that to bed by calling a mosey loop in the parking lot followed by an Indian run that gave us a couple more spins around the lot. Return to the shovel flag for Mary.
Mary: Freddie Mercury’s, Plank Holds (standard and chill cut/2 rounds). Have a nice day.
Announcements: Mulch. Sign Up.
T-Claps (Recognition): Plenty of EC today!
Prayer: Finkle to finish strong on a software engineering class he’s doing.  Dovetail stepped up to take us out.  Honor to lead in a new place. Gotta get down to the FV more often.

RUNNING THE CIRCUIT

FNGs: None
Warm Up: Arms and legs stretches, Daisy pickers, SSH, Imperial walkers, Hillbillies, FAC
The Workout: A circuit of 10 exercises were set up starting from the restrooms down to the shelter near the playground. 20 LBCs, 15 Wonder bras, run to next exercise of 10 Burpees, lunge to weights for 15 curls and 15 overhead presses, run to circle drive for some bear bowling 1/4 way around the circle, running to the picnic tables for 20 sitting back pulls with bands while partner held plank, 20 squats followed by some coyote ugly. Run back up to the restrooms to rinse and repeat until time ran out.

Mary: Joined by LED & Fonzie from Red October.  Freddy Murcurys, Homer to Marge, pickle pounders, 6 inch hold then spread em, back to 6 inch hold and then 45 degrees, spread em and back to 6 inch hold. Diamond merkins, and WWIs.
Announcements: New AO, (sorry Gump I forgot the name), mulch signup for Bass Lake
T-Claps (Recognition):
Prayer: Fumungas family with a sudden unexpected death. Struggling relationships.

They’re Coming From All Directions

YHC did not sleep well last night nor is in perfect operating condition (hammy/knee). Shocker right… Truth be told, seems like most pax are banged up a bit at most times. but we keep pushing… for ourselves and each other to become a better version of ourselves each day. The bar for Paradise City is set high. It’s supposed to be high intensity with a goal of getting 3 miles. We just don’t stop for too long in the City.  YHC challenged himself with putting together this Q and also going on a 5 day Q tour this week with EC each day. Get the ice bags ready! 15 determined pax attended stop 1 at Paradise City.

EC: Dawgpound, Dumbo, Pablo, Skidmark, Pikachu, Cupid, Boy George, Fanny Pack

FNG’s: nope
Warm Up: Loop mosey around the soccer fields and tennis courts and down the ramp stopping for Good Mornings, Frankenstein’s, Imperial Walkers, Hillbillies, and Seal Claps all IC.
The Workout: YHC pre- blasted a rounding the bases theme, so that’s what we did. Home plate was bottom of the ramp… 5 burpees. First base was at the b-ball court… 10 merkins. 2nd base was at the top of the hill… 15 squats. 3rd base was by the ticket booth at the top of the ramp… 20 mountain climbers.  Back to home plate was 25 Freedom Hammers IC.  Pax travelled to each base and back home again, before going to the next base.  Pax stopped to do exercises on the way out AND on the way back in. In all, 25 burpees, 70 merkins, 75 squats, 60 mountain climbers, and 25 Freedom Hammers with just a tad under 3 miles running. Toward the end, there was some confusion among the pax as to where to wait/how to bring in the six.  This guy went this way…that guy went that way. When in doubt, circle up for some Mary exercises.  YHC knew we needed about .3 more miles. I had a plan!
Mary: LSF’s IC, Dying Cockroach IC. With all pax back, we “emptied the tank” as Yogurt calls it and ran hard up the ramp to the top.  Stopped for some H2M, then mosey back to the flag.  Finished up with some trash pickup and some Pickle Pounders.
Announcements: July 4th workout.  Womble Park. 0600. 1776 exercises with 7.4 miles.  Sign up to mulch at Bass Lake.

T-Claps(Recognition): Moped for coming a long way in a short few weeks of AO’s. That guy is coming to get it! All pax determined to finish today’s challenge.
Prayer: All those struggling with addiction.  The Jensen family…a young boy battling cancer.

All Business and a Pecker of Wood

Last weekend of Rune.. who is gonna show up to log that mileage this morning. As I made my way to Womble, I happened upon Vasoline getting some EC heading down Holly Springs Rd. As I made it to the lot, a white truck with “Greener Pastures” blazoned across the side was conveniently parked backwards into its space. Aquaman in the house this morning!

Planted the flag and was quickly greeted by H1N1 and Vasoline coming off his EC run, Aquaman came running back from his earlier run and now a Yogurt sighting. One more car rolled in and Maybeline made it a half dozen this morning.

Warm Up: Quick lap around the lot. Circled up for Imperial Walkers X10, Hillbillies X10, Fazio X10 F\B, Frankensteins X10 (IC), Prisoner Squats X10.

The Workout: 5 mi loop- Down and up Stinson, Right on Bass Lake, Left on Salem Ridge, Left on Linksland, Left on Bass Lake, Right on Earp, Left on Raleigh, Left on Grigsby and back to the flag at Womble. Quality business-like run throughout, multiple picking up of the six by Vasoline and Yogurt. At the beginning of the run, YHC knew with this crowd this morning he’d be the six, but with a first sub-9 AGS run of the year, I’ll take it. You guys push me more than you’ll ever know, especially up those damn hills. On the way back to the flag, we even spotted a wood pecker after hearing an awful sound against an aluminum gutter. Always seem to have these random bird sightings when Aquaman posts on Sunday. Last time he posted to AGS, we saw a hawk snatch a squirrel from the ground. Solid work all the way around by PAX in attendance this morning.

Mary: Stretches OYO
Announcements: Rune Mileage- almost done, July 4th Convergence, Mulch-sign up
T-Claps (Recognition): All PAX pushing a solid pace this morning and others getting extra mileage before and after the Main Event
Prayer: Continued health for all PAX and for those facing economic hardship due to the pandemic

Aquaman took us out. Great Work, Men!

Were You Guys Holding it for Me?

Four PAX converged at Ground Pounder to see what YHC was cooking up. Pre-Blast offered up a nice cool down for those who where doubling down from U-Turn. Arrived a little early to find Fanny Pack and Pikachu in the Jones lot. Planted the flag and continued with some mumblechatter before seeing DOA emerge from the woods. About 2 minutes before lift off, Boy George pulled into the lot. He asked if I was Q and then indicated he was getting some miles. Wasn’t sure how to take that, but was clear he was running to get some extra mileage and was gonna skip whatever YHC had planned with rocks this morning.

Ground Pounder is typically a low- no running workout, but Fanny had skipped U-Turn this morning, Pikachu was fresh off of U-Turn, and DOA came running from the woods already, so we took off from the lot to the buses in front of the school. Took a little side detour through the grass up the hill. Pikachu complained a bit about his white shoes and the wet grass, but it lightened once we circled up for the following:

Warm Up: SSH X20, Imperial Walkers X10, Hillbillies X10, Fazios X10 F\B, Seal Claps X10, Overhead claps X10, Chinooks X10, Prisoner Squats X10. Finished those up and took the long way back (for Pikachu and his shoes) to the lot via Holly Springs Road and Right onto School Days Ln.

The Workout:

Instructed everyone to grab a rock. It would be their rock, no switching, and one that would be good for curling and extending. Before we started with curls and extensions, had PAX put the rocks down to perform some uneven Merkins on rock

Merkins-Right hand on Rock X10

Merkins-Left hand on the Rock X10

Curls X10-3 sets- Bottom to Middle, Top to Middle, Bottom to Top

Tricep Extensions X 20

Place Rocks down out of the drive path and a quick mosey behind the bathrooms for some B2W’s- with each PAX giving a 10 count in varying cadence. Felt like a minute, may have been longer with Pikachu’s Mississippi count. Recover with some Peoples Chair with Overhead Claps in cadence X10.

Back to B2W’s for one more set with YHC giving a 20 sec Cadence Count. Recover with more Overhead Peoples Chair X10 IC

Back the the Rocks

For those who haven’t been to Wescott BlackOps yet, we’ve seen a lot of great Q’s coming out of there since the beginning. Pablo gave an outstanding routine this past Friday with cinder blocks, so I figured I’d pay homage to a guy who knows how to deliver a quality beat down, while giving PAX a taste of what goes down in Wescott during these Friday AO’s.

Progressive Exercises (Rock included) with a 40 yard dash back and forth in between.

Set 1- Rut Rohs X10

Set 2- Rut Rohs X10, Overhead presses X10

Set 3- Rut Rohs X10, Overhead presses X10, Squats X10

Set 4- Rut Rohs X10, Overhead presses X10, Squats X10, Derkins X10 (with feet on Rocks)

Set 5- Rut Rohs X10, Overhead presses X10, Squats X10, Derkins X10, Chest Presses X10

In between Sets 1 and 2, lots of mini vans came rolling through, some with passengers others with solo drivers. With PAX on both sides of driveway, YHC called for some overhead holds as the cars rolled in, not to interrupt traffic flow but also not to stop the burn we had going. One nice lady even rolled down her window to ask if we were holding it just for her. Later discovered that there is an all female workout (non-FIA) that appears to be starting at 7:45 on Saturdays. Maybe we’ll see Cupid out at GroundPounder more often.

Dropped off the rocks back to the pile and did a nice cool down behind the bathroom shelter again. Same format as the last one.

Next had PAX find some nice handheld rocks for our next set of exercises. One rock for each hand similar in size.

Jack Webb Crawls in 1:3 ratio. Merkins\Air Presses (with Rock) with a bear crawl of about 5 steps in between with the rocks still in hand.

Got all the way to 5 Merkins and 15 Air Pressses. Shoulders sufficiently scorched, we returned the rocks and circled up for Mary.

Mary: PopCorn Mary of Box Cutters, Freddy Mercurys, Crab Cakes, Pickle Pounders X10

Announcements: Rune- log your miles, July 4th convergence next week- check slack, Mulch- sign up
T-Claps (Recognition): Double Down by Pikachu, Fanny Pack spreading mulch after Ground Pounder, DOA painting his deck Ground Pounder. Need to see the paint job as YHC is guessing there may be a few uneven strokes after this workout. Fortunately, he was not painting a ceiling.

Prayer: DOA’s stepdad, those battling health issues, Skidmark and the new addition to his family. Those seeking employment or have been impacted by the pandemic.

YHC took us out!

Yogurt and the Steel Curtain

Most PAX seem to put there own flare into workouts when they Q, and as I am approaching my 1 year anniversary, I have to say I enjoy inserting some competition into the workout. Nothing pushes men more than winning and earning the right to talk some good ole fashion SMACK.

FNGs: Nada

Warm Up:

Frankensteins  X10

Daisy Pickers X12

Then Mosey to the parking lot located halfway around soccer fields for:

5 burpees

SF Arm circles X10

SSH X 20

Then mosey the rest of the way around soccer fields and down to the pit.

The Workout:

THANG 1:

Partner up for a quick Dora. Completing 100 merkins, 200 dips, 300 squats while partner runs backwards up the paved hill and around the corner to the picnic tables at very top of hill, then stop and runs back down the hill.

THANG 2:

YHC had just enough time to lay out some cones and a beach frisbee for a 10 minute lightning round of ultimate frisbee. When a turnover occurred, the team that made the turnover does 1 burpee. All PAX do 10 merkins for each score.

Team Yogurt: Yogurt, Hardy, Florence, Nemo, Cupid

Team Fanny Pack: Fanny Pack, Tetanus, Vaseline, Elton, Katniss

The game started with Team Yogurt getting on the board quickly, but Team Fanny Pack answered to knot it at 1 a piece. And then Team Yogurt brought the pain. At times they showed flashes of the greatest team to ever take the field, the 79 Steelers. Flo Joe/Florence showed great command of the field and precision passing much like Bradshaw. Hardy and Cupid were running past defenders and finding ways to make plays much like Lynn Swann and John Stallworth. Team Yogurt quickly notched 5 more scores to just 1 additional score by Team Fanny Pack. The Steel curtain lead by Nemo (Mel Blount) and Yogurt (Jack Lambert) left Team Fanny Pack frustrated and winded at times. 10 minutes Ultimate Frisbee = 6-2 Team Yogurt.

NFL – 1979 – Special – World Champion Pittsburgh Steelers – A Cut ...

Mary:

With 5 minutes to go it was time to mosey back to Mary. With it being Friday YHC felt it appropriate to wrap things up with “Heartache Medication” by Jon Pardi. PAX held plank and performed a Catalina Wine Mixer whenever the word “Drink” appeared in the song. Song ended promptly at 615.

Announcements:

Volunteers to spread mulch at Bass Lake still needed. Check Slack.

T-Claps (Recognition):

Elton, Yogurt, Nemo, Fanny Pack for EC. Team Yogurt for their dominating win.

Warm Up:

We took a field trip to the top of the deck. The music was playing at an appropriate level. I know cause Buford commented on it. It was nice on the top deck. Nice breeze and a nice view.

We circled up and this is where we stayed the whole time.

Some stretches where done. Oh, you want to know what stretches we did. Well, you should have been there. Okay fine. First, we rang out the shoulders, then some spinal twist. Into some barrel rolls. Followed up with some good mornings. I cannot remember everything today. The Creme Brulee donut is hindering my memory before 7:15 in the morning.

The Workout:

8 sets of 20 seconds on 10 seconds off. 30 seconds between exercises.

Alternating Swings
Boobity to Boobity
Kneeling Clean to Press
Halos
Midget Love Handles. It was supposed to be snatches, but I was whooped. I should have done the snatches. Sorry guys for not doing the snatches.

The Finisher:

2 to 1 Jack Webs. Push-Ups on the Bell to pressing the bell. Started with 10 pushup/20 presses and worked down to 1. This was a good finisher. I’m still holding onto one finisher, but it isn’t RUNE friendly. Guess what we are going to do in July guys. Anyone? Anyone?

Mary:

LBCs
Homer to Marge
Toe Taps
