PAX of 7 Raise Their Standard at AGS

Pre-AGS blast set the stage with a simple concept, “Turn your ‘should do’s’ into ‘must-do’s’ and raise the standard.” Does anyone remember when our AO’s were just the workout, and not EC + Main Event or EC+EC+Main Event?  It is ritual now that EC has become the standard in the South Wake AO’s with usual 5+ guys who “just show up.” Over time, we collectively raised the standard, and in turn, have built one heck of a community with all 3F’s clicking on all cyclinders.

After a hiatus last week for the morning edition of AGS last week, YHC was looking forward to a nice lake run with 56 degree temps, making this a recipe for some great running weather. A quick check of ‘Alexa’ reaffirmed the reports I was seeing from the weather reports, but she was somewhat off in her questioning about rain as was later found this morning.

With the Bruins game beginning, took one last look at Slack and FB for any HC’s for Sunday morning. Saw a quick Yogi ‘HC’ on FB and an ‘SC’ from Lipstick on Slack with a DM from Deadbolt that read, “I’m gonna try and run tomorrow.”  To this reply, I added…”All about Standards. Time to raise them,” with the instruction that YHC would be in his driveway at 5:43, but to let me know if that changes. Turned off the phone and proceeded to watch what would be Double OT kick in the nutts by the Blue Jackets on my B’s. Luckily, I didn’t stay up for the finale as YHC had a ‘must do’ on the Sunday list.

Pan to 5:17am scan of Slack, and sure enough Deadbolt was up and rose from the fartsack. He was in!

Arrived to Womble and pulled up to Maybelline, who was parked next to Yogi, and further down the lot, H1N1 and Messi arrived to the gloom. One last vehicle emerged and in it was Nemo. That made 7. Originally had plans to go around the lake, but after additional consideration and a look of half disbelief\half ‘not a good idea’ by Maybelline, we decided to keep it dry and to take it to the streets.

Warm Up: 1/2 mile warm up-light mosey around the soccer fields with exercises at each corner. Corner 1- SSH X10, Corner 2 (Ivan Parking Lot)- Carioca L over R\R over L. Corner 3- Hacky Sacks, Corner 4- Imperial Walkers X10

The Workout: Route took us down Stinson, Right on Bass Lake Road, Left on Salem Ridge, Left on Linksland, Left on Holly Springs Road, with an option for gazelles to get an extra mile up and back through Rhamkatte before joining the 6 at Lowe’s before making the push down and up Stinson to the lot. Good mumblechatter throughout the run with all PAX pushing up and down the hills. A big shout out to H1N1 and Messi, who took the road less traveled this morning and navigated Rhamkatte. An additional shout out to Maybelline who continuously picked up the six this morning onto a 7 mile stroll.

Mary: Stretches OYO

Announcements: New JoCo AO- Jelly Stone Park- Clayton Community Park 5:30am

YHC shared the backdrop for the pre-blast and today’s message which was centered around raising the standard. In order to be successful, one must realize what needs to be sacrificed in order to achieve that success. Here we are on a Sunday morning at 7am, 6 miles in and pushing each other to be better. The difference between who you are and who you want to be is what you do.  YHC was not just talking about fitness, this translates at home, in the office, and through fellowship. The ‘should do’s’ need to become ‘must do’s,’ becoming daily rituals which fosters the positives that lead to success and raising the ‘standard.’

T-Claps (Recognition): Maybelline for picking up the six. H1N1\Messi tackling Rhamkhatte, Deadbolt avoiding the fartsack, Nemo holding Deadbolt accountable throughout the run with a solid pace. Yogi for wind sprinting on the decline and pushing up the rolling hills of Bass Lake and Salem Ridge.

Prayer: Prayers for Azul from Carpex and Yogi’s friend Tony, who are both battling cancer. Prayers for health of all PAX and those traveling this week. YHC took us out!

Is this just a warm up?

Downtown Train has been an interesting AO, never know what to expect.  This week YHC rolled up for EC and headed out solo at 0506 for 2.2 miles to Womble and the long way back.  As I rolled back in the lot I saw a few cars including an overloaded clown car from 12 Oaks.  One consistent part of DT as been that guys show up and just want to put in the work and have a strong start to their week.  Here’s another DT disclaimer, my company has tagged the F3 site as high risk because they think it is associated with gambling, so I am not able to do my BB when I hit the office.  Thing is, by the end of the day it’s a given if I did not record name-o-rama I will forget a couple #HIM.  We had 9 this morning and if I failed to tag you let me know so I can update and give credit where credit is due.

FNGs: None today
Warm Up: On the jog around the big block and circle up in start lot. ICx15 Good Mornings/Daisy Pickers/Goof Balls. Did a couple rounds. On the jog to the back lot traffic circle for arm stretches.
The Workout: Jog down library hill to the pool lot for a few sets of LBC/6 hold/low slow flutters without rest.  Wash, rinse repeat a few times. On the jog back up library hill and over to what is now known as “Craigslist Corner” aka the side lot by the book drop where we usually see a few suspicious passing vehicles.  Each set up in a parking spot and we did ICx20 Mt Cllimbers/SSH/Tempo Merkins.  Wash, rinse repeat for 3 full sets and those tempo merkins were hurting.  On the jog back to start we circled up for a Fazio Arm Circle burnout with 3 sets doing ICx15 forward – 10 count hold – ICx15 reverse.
Mary:  2 full rounds of plank-o-rama as the 1st time around did not seem to stick with the “plank” part of the plan.
Announcements: Safety training Thu night – chip in batteries or detectors, Dad’s Camp registration is now live, for real
T-Claps (Recognition): Great to meet Abe, who has posted at Cletus the past couple weeks and joined us for DT this morning – strong work today
Prayer: Continued prayers for Moby, his Dad and family, the rest were unspoken and YHC took us out

Get off of my lawn….

Warm Up:  Daisy Pickers, Frankensteins, High Knees, Butt Kickers, light jog

The Workout: You’d of thought that it would be a little less smelly at R4TJ with certain company off frittering.  The Holly Springs landfill continues to give and give.  One of our newest PAX Snap informed us that he had a place along our route.  To which our man Cowboy quickly replied, “you might want to watch out for this one guy we run with sometimes…”  We were then onto our task of the morning –  The Little Dipper.  We had 5+ miles logged in the end.  Lots of good Picking Up The 6 by Slide Rule and Snap. – https://www.strava.com/routes/17536755

Mary: She knows… She knows…

Announcements:  FREE Safety Training at the fire station next Thursday.  Bring smoke detectors to donate.

T-Claps (Recognition):  Cowboy for setting up the safety opportunity at the fire station – let’s support him and the firehouse next week!!!

Prayer:  Silent Prayers in COT but YHC extended prayers to all PAX over this holiday weekend.  Stay safe and enjoy your families.

Post-EC:  Nemo, Redenbacher, and YHC shared some sprints up Ting ramp in Yogurt’s honor.

5 On The Rocks

Downtown Train is still a work in progress. Parking deck is not done yet, weekly struggle between going run-centric or sticking with boot camp, already had to adjust the EC route due to construction, etc.  That said, every week has proven to deliver a strong group of #HIM for a strong workout. This morning YHC had his first miss of EC since we started, but Warbucks held down the fort on a solo EC and we were glad he had the opportunity in his schedule to join us. Third Cousin was ready to go and let me say this guy has contagious enthusiasm and has had a great first weeks in the gloom.  Snap showed up on the jog and it was a pleasure to introduce him to a non-running AO – great to have you out there with us this morning.  Forceps showed up right on time and was a fitting addition to the 5 as I was stealing some of my favorite parts of his great Qs at Ground Pounder.  As much as I appreciate how much we have grown, and the opportunity to post with so many different #HIM, I really do enjoy the smaller crowds from time to time.

Warm Up: On the 0.4 mile jog around the big block and circled up for SSH, Mt Climbers, Arm Stretch, Fazio Arms, Morocon Night Clubs, Imperial Walkers, Hillbillies and a few others I don’t recall
The Workout: On the jog to the rocks and each selected a medium size rock to share.  John Cusak over to what I now refer to as the smile lot behind the library.  Set up in a circle and we worked through sets doing 2 exercises each set, all to a slow ICx10. Do 1st exercise, rotate to rock your left, do 2nd exercise.  Did 4 sets of each exercise.  Recover on the jog around the smile and we did a plank hold 5 count into shoulder taps ICX15 and built it up ICx20 and ICx25 on the next rounds, another 5 count plank hold and then jog back to rocks.  The exercise sets were curls/tris, ground pounder/weighted tempo squats, wonder bras/bus drivers.  After last set we did walking curls to return rocks and then on the jog to start.
Mary: A couple quick sets, keeping the feet off the ground, LBC, 6 hold, low slow flutter into homer to marge.  Did this twice and wrapped with Have a Nice Day.
Announcements: Talked about getting on facebook/slack, talked about some of the ways F3 is more than just a workout
T-Claps (Recognition):
Prayer: Forceps mother-in-law for a safe move, unspoken, took a silent 10 count and YHC took us out

Why do we do this again?

22 PAX posted for YHC’s Q. On the drive we all were regretting not fart sacking this morning when the rain was coming down sideways, but we all still showed up in numbers and a couple that have gone missing at U-Turn for a while. Dahmer even brought an FNG to the party. Welcome Lumbergh!  Going for the extra extra, Pikachu and Skidmark got soaked on a 5 Mile EC.

There was a ton of HIM ready for Crazy Ivan workout this morning. YHC was running slightly behind from setting up the action. Planned for 20 max and had 26 (1 that was running solo), so last minute changes were needed. We had 2 FNG’s that were given the low down on how this F3 thing works. YHC put on breath taker for the last time this week. It was 0530 so let’s get to work.

T-Claps (Recognition):
Is it ok for YHC to call himself out? I was battling a cold/pollen blend all week and wearing breath taker. This was the toughest workout week I have had in a very LONG time. BT is a beast and you don’t realize it until you wear it. At each AO I posted this week, there was a 30 sec blurb about Testicular Cancer Awareness. We can donate funds to help the society spread the message of the importance of checking yourself regularly. Key task for the month is for each PAX member to make a habit of checking the jewels for any changes. See slack and FB for details on how or just google it. YHC plans to posts to as many different AO’s this month to spread the message.

Prayer:
Pikachu and his episode at Tapline, Crab Legs, Shredder, BS results from CT scan (all clear)

Great to see so many HIM posting today! Apologies for being a bit flustered to start but wasn’t expecting that turn out. It worked well and hope that you broke a sweat today. Thanks to Sir Dawgpound for allowing me to lead my first Q at Crazy Ivan and my last day in BT. Good luck to Yogurt who gets the enjoyment of wearing BT next week with a winning bid of $120. Welcome Pace and Snap (FNG’s). It was real and it was fun but it wasn’t real fun.

BS Out!

Keep the Change

2 for EC to start the week with a nice run for YHC down to Womble and back while Bernie was out on the roads for a couple miles around town.

1 FNG welcome Grandmama – lived in HS since ’98 and an old school Hornets fan, also “respect” and welcome.  He is looking for some of our run workouts so let’s get him out to U Turn

Warm Up: Standard 0.4 mile jog followed by circle up for the usual exercise including arm stretches, which were needed based on what was to follow.
The Workout: On the jog to the traffic circle at the top of Library Hill where we lined up on the sidewalk (knowing the usual traffic of unusual suspects pursuing craigslist-driven dream would soon be driving through) and engaged in 3 rounds of a modified “short change ATM”. 5 count plank – shoulder taps ICx5 – 5 count plank – tempo merkins ICx5 –  count plank – 5 count merkins – 5 count plank and recover on a 10 count.  Upped our game on 3rd round and went to 10s.  When we were done we “recovered” on the jog down library hill and reconvened in the pool lot. Found the grass along the back curb and lined up for a set of Jumping Jack Webbs.  This is a variation of the Jack Webb that adds my beloved SSH.  1:3:5 merkins:air press:SSH (IC).  Climbed all the way to 10:30:50 for a grand total of 275 SSH. “Recovered” on the jog back up library hill. Stopped by the drop box for a short bear crawl and lunge on our way back to start.
Mary: Circle up for a quick plank-o-rama
Announcements: Banana Seat taking breathtaker on a tour of AOs to spread the important message about testicular cancer. Let’s all step up this month and promote awareness and support the cause.

Prayer: Moby’s dad, Crablegs for his opportunity at Johns Hopkins and YHC took us out in prayer

Inaugural Squirrel Patrol Ride

Five PAX posted to BEGIN ROAD WORK. Little did we know the turns we were in for. Mumble chatter revealed that the PAX, like me, had not ridden in quite a while. Nonetheless, we were determined to launch some road training to prepare for the Triangle Triathlon on June 1, now less than 60 days away!

Warm Up: U-Turn 3.1 to 6.3 mile run
The Workout: As I finished up U-turn, I looked at my watch to find 7 am, the scheduled launch time for the bike ride. Then, I looked around and saw Emeril, Gump, Nemo, and UTI all dressed and ready to go. Uh-oh, good time to practice my transition.

We circled up quickly to identify a route. Because most were aiming to hit the 2.0 workout at 9 am, my plans had evolved to a simple down-and-back to intersection of Friendship and New Hill Holleman Road, near the US1 interchange. 10 miles, no problem. Everyone was game and we took off. But, upon reaching Old Holly Springs Apex Road, we immediately changed plans. This became protocol as we strove to Find New Roads.

On the first hill climb, I learned that UTI climbs on his bike the same way as without–strong and steady. Even with up and downs, we kept the PAX together. Gump kept hammering on his mtn/hybrid. Nemo kept hammering on his bike that he’s ridden on way more miles and any of us combined. In high school, he did a century a day for 10 days. A century is a 100-mile ride. Wow. Emeril had ridden these very roads twice a week in the days when these roads were quiet, even during the week. UTI has recent Triangle Triathlon experience.

Decision point: Woods Creek left or right? UTI knew we should go left. Now this was indeed a nice quiet road. I’ll plan to use this one again. At Woods Creek and Friendship, we found a lone rider taking a break. I thought he was waiting on riders since Double D type riders typically come down from Durham and Chapel Hill. Turns out he was just eating a banana and watching deer cross the road. He joined us to the our next non-pre-determined turn. Nemo recruited him along the way.

Decision point: Left on Friendship and head back to HS. On this segment, a squirrel decided to hop on Nemo’s foot, take a couple of revolutions, then hop on through the frame. Another wow.

Decision point protocol continued until we finally logged about 11 miles, depending on whose device/satellites we were using. Finally made it back to Starbucks for 5-man second F. Great ride, looking forward to next Saturday!

20….and that’s a wrap

YHC roped Aquaman into the warm up this morning after he said Friday he wasn’t 100% for going. His post advertising on Facebook was all that was needed to give him warm up responsibilities and ensure a post – Bulls Eye’s (South Wake’s first, and only, Fritter Foundation member) was present as well – t-claps!

No one took YHC up on EC, so the old U-Turn route was ran to get a good sense of comparison between the two. Think the new one is hillier. Came back into the Starbucks parking lot ~0548 to no one there, so another mile was dialed up. When coming back up the parking lot was bustling with activity as the circle had formed.

Warm Up:

Good morning, SSH, right over left, left over right
The Workout:

Standard loop. A few pax did Slide Rule’s ~10k route by adding a mile inside of 12 oaks.
Mary:

Some bike riding, some OYO stretching, some coffee
