I arrived around 5:24 to find only one car in the lot. Hasselhoff stepped out, otherwise all quiet on the western front…

One by one the PAX started to roll in. Nemo emerged from the gloom from his EC, then Bobby Dall. A headlamp rounded the corner and out popped Wild Turkey right around 5:29. Then Maybelline came strolling in right at the 5:30 mark.

Time to get to work! YHC had decided ahead of time that we would keep things moving, but we would avoid THAT hill…

Warm Up: SSH x 25 IC, Good morning x10 IC, Imperial walkers x15 IC, Hillbillies x15 IC, Sir Fazio Arm Circles forward and backward x10 IC

The Workout:

PAX moseyed over to the bank parking lot and did a quick lap around it, stopping by the ATMs. YHC asked the PAX to partner up. Then the fun began:

Making deposits at the bank:

Thang 1: All PAX completed 10 merkins, 15 plank jacks IC, and 15 WW2 together. We then partnered up and ran in opposite directions around the bank. When PAX met up halfway around the building, we stopped and did 10 patty cake merkins. Completed the lap around the building, 10 more patty cake merkins.

Thang 2: Once PAX were back at the starting point, we did 10 wide grip merkins, 15 plank jacks IC, and 15 LBCs IC. Another lap around the bank with 10 patty cake merkins on each side of the bank.

Thang 3: One more round of fun around the bank. PAX completed 10 diamond merkins, 15 plank jacks, and 15 LSF. One more lap around the bank with 10 patty cake merkins on each side.

Riding the rail:

We then moseyed behind the shopping center down to the rail next to Jiffy Lube. We completed 3 rounds of work there with a mosey around the building in between each round.

Round 1:Ā Dips x20, Derkins x10, Erkins x 15

Round 2:Ā Repeato round 1

Round 3:Ā Gave our arms a break. Bulgarian Split Squats x 15 on each side, Prisoner Squat x 15, Monkey Humpers x 15

Rocking it out:

We moseyed back around the building to the rock pile. YHC asked each PAX to grab 2 rocks, then we went over near the wall for the following with the rocks

Round 1:Ā Wonderbras x 15 IC, Shoulder press x 10 IC, Tricep extension x 10 IC. Drop rocks, over to the wall for BTTW and People’s chair x 10 count from each PAX.

Round 2:Ā Curls for the girls x 15IC, Ruh rows x 10 IC, Skullcrushers x 10 IC. Drop rocks, back to the wall for People’s chair and BTTW – again 10 count from each PAX. YHC mentioned doing it backwards and Maybelline proceeded to do some questionable things to that wall….

YHC instructed PAX to return the rocks, then moseyed back over to the parking lot in front of Pet Mania.

Suicides – are we done yet?

YHC lined up the PAX and instructed them to sprint down to a black truck that was a few curb stops down. We’d do exercises at one end, then sprint back, where we’d complete more exercises. We did 3 rounds of this:

Round 1:Ā Sprint down, 10 merkins, sprint back, 10 star jumps

Round 2:Ā Sprint down, 10 squats, sprint back, 10 WW1

Round 3:Ā Sprint down, 10 merkins again (I think?), sprint back, 10 breakdancers with Hoff on the count

Wild Turkey mentioned that this must have been a Woody inspired Q. YHC was happy as I knew I’d have made my co-site Q proud, even if he was down with the warden at Prison Yard this AM…

Warm Up: Pax mossied around the parking lot, including stutter steps back and forth on the parking lines. SSH in cadence x 25 Ā SFAC front and back x 10. Seal clap/overhead clap combos in cadence x 20. Frankensteins in cadence x 10. IWs and HBs

The Workout:

we started with a little Build-a-Bear. Bear crawl donā€™t the parking line for 1 burpee. Back down to 2, etc to 10.

Mossied over to the knee wall and got busy with:

  • staggered squats x 10 each side
  • Merkins, TUT, x10, 2 rounds
  • Squat kicks, over the knee wall x10
  • Erkin set. Pax rotated between Diamond then ā€œhoppedā€ to regular. x10, x15, x25. We added wide grip to up the challenge.
  • 2 punch combos with a front kick, R&L.

A Case of the Dropsies

It was the case of “dropsies” for most of the morning for 17 PAX playing Ultimate Mutiny @ Ting.

No OYO VOYO 10K

I saw an opportunity to combine my Q quest with F3 Raleighā€™s second annual VOYO (Virtual On Your Own 10K) and I took it. Yes, running with a group is not very OYO. Thank you for your concern.

Warm Up:
State the mission, check for FNGs(0), and give the disclaimer.
Everyone else preran, so we skipped the warm up, discussed the course and got moving.

Main Event:
1)Ā Run VOYO 10K (Out South entrance of Womble Park, going clockwise around the ball fields, follow Grigsby to Raleigh, then Right on Holly Springs. Turn around at Linkland, detour into Jones Park and then back the way we came to start)

Naked Moleskin:
The South Wake hospitality has been great. I posted the week prior and mentioned my Q plan at COT, making sure everyone was cool with that. I also wanted to give pre-Cobains to any sixes for whom we wouldnā€™t come back until the end. Lipstick suggested the main route and everyone was supportive today.
187 appointed himself as my personal trainer who ran with me, managed traffic, and encouraged my pace. I wonā€™t forget it. He helped me to a 10K PR of 53:19 (even though I cropped it too far for Strava to recognize; this was the day I learned 10km>6.21mi, not by much, but enough; Dā€™oh!)
This was my ninety-sixth #F3Q21 #2021Challenge Q (one hundredth overall). Next Q is Tuesday at Diver Down.

Hills and Halfpipes

16 PAX posted under the promise of exploring some of the topographical and landscaping features at Disney. YHC brought a simple sequence of exercises that took advantage of these features and a little more.

FNG’s:Ā none
Warm Up: Good Mornings, Sir Fazio’s, Hillbillies, Imperial Walkers, Frankensteins.
The Workout: A mosey through the darkness to the large hill on the far side of the soccer fields. DORA was called. We partnered up and one PAX would take off up the hill, do 5 burpees, and return via crawl-bear. Exercises on the ground were: 100 Big Boy Sit Ups, 200 Merkins, 300 Squats.

Next was a 2-line Indian run over to the half pipe somewhat near the flag. We kept our partners here. Partners would run up the opposite hills of eachother a do either 15 Mountain Climbers or 15 Star Jumps. When meeting back in the middle, 10 Patty Cake Merkins. We got through 5 rounds of this.

Next, a mosey over to the playground for 42 dips and BTTW…just as long as YHC decided to do so.

YHC then called for a mosey return to the parking lot entrance hill and we got after 3 hill sprints up to the flag.

Prayer: A family Bondo knows is losing their 28 year old to a battle with liver failure. FRAM has upcoming vacation planned with mom/daughter. Peace in that situation. TomTom son has been diagnosed with auto-immune issues and praying for healing along the way. YHC took us out!

Expect the unexpected

I thought it was just going to be Full House and I posting this morning because he threw out the only HC on Slack.Ā  Wild Turkey also commented he would try to make it.Ā  With BRR only 2 weeks over, 4PAX showing to U-Turn the day prior, cooler weather this morning, and the fact that it was a Sunday, I didn’t expect more than a couple guys including myself.Ā  Ā Full House and I went out for some EC prior to the ME and when we came rolling in and I saw more than a few PAX it made my morning.

The Workout: Exit Womble, L on Stinson, R on Grigsby, L on W Elm, crossover Main St. and stay on Elm, L on Ballentine, R on Saranac Ridge, L on Onondaga Ct., follow the sidewalk on Onondaga to a hidden connector that will put you behind a daycare center on Earnie Lane, head straight on Earnie Lane, R on Holly Springs Rd, L on Tullich Way, L on Stonehedge Ct, L on Oakhall Dr, crossover Main St and stay straight on Crossway Ln, R on Skymont, L on Rhamkatte, R on Holly Springs Rd, L on Raleigh Rd, L on Grigsby, L on Stinson, and back to Womble for just under 6mi.

New Faces, New Places (for me anyhow)

The Workout: 6mi run, which included running through the creepy tunnel that runs under Hwy 55 (I’ve always wanted to run through this so that was a new place for me)

3-Alarm 8/24/21 – Fartsack Explained, Gatorade Expired, With Some Dead Animal Stench in Between

Back in June, 3-Alarm (Davis) wanted to share a few words before each workout, so he texted me those words for my delivery at the next run. What I didnā€™t expect was to video myself speaking those words on Davisā€™ behalf and then sending the video to him for review. Since then, Iā€™ve delivered Davisā€™ speech every time we have new runners at SouthWakeā€™s best AO (certainly the most joyful). And Iā€™ve embellished it each time with Davisā€™ approval. Davis also asked us to define F3 terms, so he can participate in the conversation and not be confused by Purple Cobra, Merkin, AO, COT, and of course, Fartsack. Today, @Dumbo entertained allā€”especially @3-Alarm, with his firsthand account of Fartsacking.

After these standard announcements and a count-off of 12, then 13 with Cupidā€™s late arrival, we took off. Very impressive seeing 13 PAX run up the street with Davis rolling and the flag waving.

For the second time this month, Davis brought an FNG. This week, we picked up Cole, a senior at HSHS and avid rugby player and sleeper. It took us a minute to find his house, but Davis came through. Cole joined us on a run wearing sweat pantsā€”the big, heavy cotton type that would be great if you were camping in 20 degree weather. But it was 95 degrees out. I asked if he wanted to change and he said no. Cole hammered through the run in spite of bruises and old injuries (broken femur five years ago). At COT, he earned the name @Snooze because it takes several alarms to wake him up in the morning. When asked what he likes to do for fun, he said he likes to chill and doze off, hence the name @Snooze, penned by @Pikachu. Davis had met Cole and recruited him while on a walk the week before.

We also swung by Charlieā€™s house. Earlier in August, we picked up FNG Charlieā€”an avid BMXā€™er and MTBā€™er, who earned the name @Cash Roll after a BMX trick invented by Daniel Dhers (2021 Olympic Silver medalist, BMX freestyle; and owner/operator of Daniel Dhers Action Sports Complex, right here in little olā€™ Holly Springs). Finally, we got going on rhythm with the run. Down Avent Meadows, up Holly Moor. Here, Cole pushed Davis straight up the hill with an assist from Pikachu. This is not an easy hill!

Several runners rotated in to push Davisā€”Emeril, Dumbo. We stopped at intersections to let cars go by and to keep our PAX together. Pikachu showed us how to climb Holly Thorn Trace, nearly a mile straight uphill, going faster pushing Davis than most of us can run solo. The stop sign at the top is a good spot to rest, catch your breath, and pick up the six. But today, there was the distinct odor of a dead animal. This thing made the landfill smell like roses. After picking up the six, we gladly moved on.

Cupid had the privilege to push Davis back down the hill. On the way back, Cancun found us as he drove his search vehicle through the neighborhood. He and both 2.0s rolled back to the house and set up the splash zone. Maybelline and I bolted back to the houseā€”Maybelline to hop in the car to pick up his son and me to help splash.

Pikachu ran Davis back and forth through the sprinkler. Cancunā€™s 2.0 Oliver freely squirted just about everyone with a squirt gun and exclaimed the my SUV was not a ā€œtruck.ā€ Wild Turkey soaked Davisā€™ hat and placed it on Davisā€™ head. Dumbo and others stuck their head in the sprinkler. COT and one burpee by Pikachu and we were done. Finally, after most had left, Wild Turkey and Snooze were enjoying some Gatorade, when Snooze realized it was expired by 2 years! Uh oh. Davis got a real kick out of that. If Wild Turkey and Snooze return next time, we’ll know they are OK. Another successful 3-Alarm run!

Rnd 2 of Evening the Odds (Tigers Blood 8/4/21)

Even the Odds

FNGs: No F3 FNG’s but we had several new PAX try the challenge for the first time. (Pikachu, Bobby Bouche, Lipstick, Pots, Sprinkler, Full House, Fonzie, 187 and 8 Bit.
Warm Up: 400 m mosey lap, Several sets of various quad/hamstring/calf/glute stretches.
The Workout:Ā  Explanation of how the workout works. Odd numbers have to be followed in exact sequence and even numbers are interchangeable.Ā  I/C exercises, progress around the track or straight reps must be done without progressing forward. Ex. Walking along track is against the self imposed rules, you must perform the exercise to progress.Ā  On the odd numbers you pick up the six (guys on even numbers) by help with reps or progress around the track. From the first time we did this the time was only 45 min.Ā  This time we had a 70 min timer, no breaks built in.Ā  I also added 2 more rounds for a total of 16. See “Even the Odds” link.
