Why Would 21 PAX Post for a Wednesday Run? Must Be the Sprints!

Was looking forward to Qā€™ing R4TJ because I wanted to do two things: Launch a new route and bring back sprints. Needed to get off Crossway for some variety, but wanted to retain the elevation gain. Had lots of ideas, but when it came to mapping, it was challenging. Plus, I told Bobby Bouche that Iā€™d map out a 3 mile option. Initial routes had too many turns, which lead to confusion and frustration. Finally occurred to me that Skymont to Daisy Grove was the perfect solution.

Must Be the Warm Up! Multiple PAX ECā€™d already. PAX kept rolling in as 0530 approached. Had to get in the middle of the parking lot where we could circle up. 21 PAX make a big circle. With so many ECā€™ers, I just wanted to warm up the remainder. SSH 25x, Daisy pickers 10x. We got a count and Bobby Bouche agreed to lead the 3.5-mile runners. We all took off. Felt like start of the HS Half.

Must Be the Route! HS Half start, climb Anchor Creek, right on Wellspring, down to the greenway, across the boardwalk. Beginning at the long boardwalk, Skymont goes straight up for a nice elevation gain. This is a very functional route. At the top of Skymont near Daisy Grove, 3.5-mile runners peel off at the greenway connection to Jones Park, head to HS Road, then follow Main back to Ting. At Daisy Grove, 5.5-mile runners turn left, make a couple of simple turns to get to Homegrown, then HS Road and Main to Ting. Finally, we all meet up at Ting for COT and sprints!

Must Be the Workout! This ā€œone hourā€ run that goes by like nothing. Why? The chatter, the junk talking, the climbs, the descents, the sunrise, the picking up the six, getting to know new PAX, catching with PAX you havenā€™t seen in a while, and finally, the shenanigansā€”ask Lipstick and Roger Roger. I tried to run with as many people as possible, while turning back for the six regularly. This was fun.

Must Be the Mary! No, actually it couldnā€™t be, there was no Mary
Must Be the COT!

Announcements: Long A$$ Run, March 27, multiple mileage options accompanied by multiple starting points, all end in Durham

Must Be the Sprints! Yes, it must be the Sprints! All 21 of us lined up for sprints, yes! Wait, thatā€™s not what happenedā€¦ But, shout out to Bobby Bouche, UTI, and Lipstick for hammering out some sprint to AC/DC Long Way to the Top.

What happens at the John, stays at the John

We had a surprise visit by HS finest this morning. Not sure what the commotion was all about, could have been an arms dealer, could have been speeding…guess you should have came to the John to find out.

Lot’s of Fartsacks. Only 12 showed for a BRR training run. We have 4 teams and an average of 9 Pax per team I was expecting 36 pax.

Notable Fartsacks:
Bat Flipping Red
Shamwow — Is this two Fartsacks in a week
Full House — I’m assuming :face_vomiting::hankey:Ā is a hard commit.

FNGs: Nope. Not one
Warm Up:

The drive over was a good opportunity to get warm and toasty.

The Workout:

Ran across 55 and to Milpass to crossway. Ran to the top of CrossWay and Creek Vista.

The pax had 30 minutes to get as many rounds in as possible of:

Run down Creek Vista.
Run Up Creek Vista.
Turn Left Run down Crossways
Turn around by the Cat thing jumping out into the road.
Run up Crossways
Turn right onto Creek Vista

I believe most pax got in around 5. Some Pax completed 6 rounds. It was a lot of fun

And the tea bagger is born…

The Workout: 8 HIM out this morning for some miles on what appeared to be a familiar route, the big dipper.Ā  Only to be side tracked down Grigsby to Elm and back to 55.Ā  Little did we know a yuge tea bag was formed.Ā  Nice work by all, Lipstick was missing, apparently his johnson sock must have been in the laundry.
Prayer: Praise that Tracey Bailey is doing better, prayers for all of those with COVID and recovering.

R4TJ Holiday Bowling Party

EC: Skidmark, Pikachu, Redenbacher, Full House, YHC

FNGs: Had the place all to ourselves…

Warm Up: We left the parking lot abruptly at 5:30 – Couldn’t wait to get this over with started!

The Workout:

A few of us got started in the parking lot early for a little “Extra Credit”, pre-gaming for the company party.Ā  We didn’t go too overboard (well maybe Skidmark did a little) just a few miles to get us in the mood.Ā  These things are always a little dull.Ā  At least we were going to be doing something other than eating finger foods and staring at each other pretending to pay attention to the boss’s next big fish story.Ā  The Boss, or “Nantan” as he likes to be called is always doing something Crazy, Stupid, and Utterly-Pointless…Ā  OOOhhh, we’re impressed you and 3 of your buddies ran 200 miles through the mountains in like a day – big whoop!

You never know quite who plans to show up.Ā  I volunteered to take the lead on this one and sent out invitations (check out that banner up top) in plenty of time and a few extra nudges on the company Slack.Ā  Some of these funny and entertaining videos get a laugh and get people a little more excited about showing.Ā  It’s not like this event lasts forever…Ā  It’s not like running a marathon or anything.

Photo

Honest Abe rolled in right on time like he always does.Ā  McNugget promised to bring the Chicken Minis but none were to be found.Ā  He looked drowsy like he had eaten them all in the car on the way over.Ā  Shredder came, didn’t think he was into bowling…Ā  said he saw the map tucked in the invitation (look right) and that got his attention for some reason.Ā  ĀÆ\_(惄)_/ĀÆ

187 and Lipstick showed up next.Ā  Now the fab 4 were all going to be here… FML…Ā  “remember that time we all nearly died running 200 miles” šŸ™„

Alright, let’s get this over with started!Ā  The games were set.Ā  The fab 4 were on a team and got started first.Ā  They move fast and it’s best just to let them go.Ā  As we got started, Shredder suggested we sing some carols.Ā  I lead a few bars but it nevery really went anywhere.Ā  Was it me or was no one really feeling festive?Ā  Is Jingle Bells office appropriate?Ā  Shrug it off – let’s keep bowling.

The party split up into appropriate groups, it was nice though we always managed to come back together every once in a while and catch-up around the 6th frame.Ā  Everything was pretty decked out for Christmas, nice assortment of lights.Ā  Way better than the Nantan’s attempt at a light show the week before.Ā  I wouldn’t tell him that though “Great lights last week, huh boss!?”Ā  Gotta get that Christmas bonus.. with this years check I’m putting in a pool for the family..

At one point I was mid-stride, lining up a strike when I heard “Hey Buddy” from somewhere unknown in the distance.Ā  Come to find out Lipstick was doing his business and was trying to talk to us from the John.Ā  Man I hope he left that bathroom in some decent shape.Ā  If any of the other establishments we frequent knew what kind of presents he leaves around… we’d never be welcomed back.

Near the end of the event there was a bit of a snafu.Ā  The alley had to shut down one of the lanes around the 4th mile (our office measures the number of games in miles, strange right?).Ā  Ā The guy came out from behind the pins to let us know.Ā  He only had one arm…Ā  maybe not too surprising I’m sure it gets a little tricky back there.Ā  He told us something about an icy bridge on the greenway???Ā  That’s some pretty high level bowler tech lingo I guess….Ā  We endured through the last 2 miles (games remember) and the party was at it’s end.

Remember:Ā  Don’t Eat Yellow Snow!

Mary:Ā  Mary got fired a few years ago.Ā  Tragic story, remind me to tell you sometime.Ā  Not here, not now…

Sadly they were very lacking. So we ended up with an order of hills hold the lights.

Slight miscommunication on the way back when a Cayman audible was called – good moral to do more picking up of the six when going through neighborhoods where there are lots of side streets.
