Shit’s Creek

Taper week is upon us for the HSHM so the EC crowd was light but PC held true with its very typical 11-14 pax every week. It had been a few weeks since YHC had visited the tunnel at PC. Can’t remember the last time we went down there but today was as good as day as any, especially since it hadn’t rained in a few days, reducing the chances of a hepatitis outbreak.

EC: Pikachu, Full House, Skidmark

FNGs: None
Warm Up: 2 groups of Indian Run for one loop around the complex with stops for IW, Hillbillies, Sir Fazio Arm circles, and Good mornings. YHC is such as nice guy that he only made Pax do SSH for the late Pax (shall remain nameless).

The Workout: Mosey to the tunnel. All the way to far end of the Greenway to nowhere is appox 1/4 mile. Set the pace at 2:30 for Pax to get out and back and complete merkins until the 2:30 was up. Next time out and back at 2:25 and do squats. 3rd time 2:20 LBC, last round 2:15 and preachers chair. Most Pax completed but one ventured out into the woods to pinch one off. You know the guy that disappears every workout about 1.5 miles in.
Next part of the workout was a Partner Dora will 100 Big Boy situps, 200 merkins, 300 squats. Moseyed to the other end of the tunnel to run the short side. As we approached that side of the tunnel it was clear where Lipstick took his morning squat. Never in all my travels, through tunnels, public restrooms, bus stations, subway stati9ns, and mountain outhouses have I smelled what I whiffed on the other side of that tunnel. Quicker than an 8-0 Ben Roethlisberger audible we ran as fast as we could back to the other side of the tunnel. The new running portion would now be up to the little greenway to the road and back down.
Finished off as a group with 2 rounds of Balls to the Wall and Preacher Chairs before the mosey back to the court.

Mary: Mountain Climbers, Pickle Pounders, Peter Parkers, Parker Peters, Homer to Marge, Have a nice day

Announcements: HSHM run this weekend. 0700 hard start with coffee in the lot. Dawgpound is planning a Christmas Party, Breach is giving a TED talk next week

T-Claps (Recognition):

Prayer: Davis is having surgery today.

Have Rock, Will Travel at GP

I picked up the Q the night before the AO and all I had planned was a field trip. Everything else was inspired on the move and it turned out to be a solid beatdown.
FNGs
: 1 – ButterBurger
Warm Up: Circle up for the disclaimer for the FNG and 10 counts in cadence of the following: Side straddle hops, Imperial walkers, Hillbillies, Good mornings, Fozzy arm circles forward and reverse, and Daisy pickers. Then it was off to the rock pile for a medium to large rock with the warning that we will be traveling with it. Also, an additional warning that if the rock was too small then I would be reassigning a new one. All rocks looked solid and we began our mosey that ended up being about 1.5 miles total by the end.
The Workout: Follow the leader for several alternating rounds of John Cusack and curls for the girls at a nice slow pace for time under tension as we started our walk into the woods.

We stopped  on a path in the woods shortly after the bridge for some 11s – Rock Spanks in cadence, bear crawl, squats on my down, bear crawl and repeat as we cycled from 1/10 to 10/1.

Everyone switched rocks after the 11s and back to the mosey. This time we alternated rounds on the move between tricep extensions in cadence, John Cusack, and a brief pause for squats.

We made our next stop at Veterans Park by the flags. Set our rocks down by the path and find a bench for 15 Irkins, 15 dips, and 15 Derkins. Then it’s time to a switch rocks and back for a quick mosey over to the shelter where we stopped and did 10 Ground Pounders in cadence.

Set the rocks to the side of the path and proceed under the shelter for alternating rounds of Wall Sits and BTTW’s. Once finished it was almost 8 o’clock and we had to get moving to get back for Mary.

Switch rocks and pause for 10 Ruh rohs in cadence followed by more alternating rounds of John Cusack and curls for the girls at a slow cadence on the move. We stopped at the start of one of the disc golf holes on the way back for some calf raises and then once again switched rocks.

Continue the mosey with John Cusack and tricep extensions. The six were falling behind so we switched to lunges while they caught up. We alternated John Cusack and overhead press along with a few reps of look at the pretty trees (thanks to Quiver) as we finally made it back to the rock pile to return the rocks.

Mary: We had about 10 minutes for Mary and with all of the exploring we did I had to throw in some Dora. Partner up for 50 World War II‘s, 100 Freddie Mercury ‘s, and 150 mountain climbers, while you alternate jogging around the parking lot. For the final minute of the Q everyone did mountain climbers to make sure that we had enough reps for Dora. After that final minute everyone was sufficiently smoked.

Announcements: Holly Springs Half is next weekend and volunteers are needed to man the aid stations.
T-Claps (Recognition): Frenchie and Macho Nacho bringing out another FNG. We had 4 Pax under the age of 20!
Prayer: Pax and their families, as well as the state of the country.

Let’s Just Get the Math Right

Today marked YHC’s 200th post this year. Apparently, I also posted at Sheepdog for my 100th post earlier this year. See what I did there…I have not been down to Sheepdog for a couple months now and man…that site has changed. A new middle school will be going up and as we drove in Hardy said, “This is a weird time to build a school…will anyone be in it?” I agree. But also, I’m so glad, that I didn’t intend to Q any Thangs on the large field because, well…it ain’t there no more! The pre-blast promised 200 reps of something or some things, plus a fire hose. So, YHC thought I would have a bit of fun initially with this promise. 7 PAX and a pooch for a penchant for making “fragrant” contributions along the way posted at Sheepdog  and put in strong work!

FNG’s: none

Warm Up: SSH IC x30, Good Mornings x10…quick mosey and then Frankenstein’s x10 IC and then the smell of some effervescent Pooch poop, so YHC called 10 burpees and then a move on. Upon the mosey to the next spot, YHC called 10 more burpees and some PAX said, “there’s no way this is the 200…there will be a Mutiny at Sheepdog!” I wanted to string everyone along a bit. Honestly, I’m not sure how you could work 200 burpees into a workout but I’m sure there’s always a way with F3. At this point, Shredder also commented that if YHC called this, during the Mutiny, there would be some close-quarter combat. Coming from Shredder, I really did not want any part of that! finished with 10 ct. IW’s and HB’s.
The Workout: Immediate rush to the benches for 20 irkins, 20 step-ups, and 20 dirkins. YHC then paused before calling the mosey to see if PAX thought perhaps this was the workout. Mosey to the back of the school where PAX came upon a fire hose at the far end of the blacktop. The Thang here was each PAX takes a turn carrying/running/walking/moseying/sprinting with fire hose from one end of the lane to the other. All the while, other PAX were completing an OYO running set of 200 merkins, 200 squats, and 200 dips. We got through about 4 rounds for all PAX on the fire hose before YHC called a “circle-up”. In F3…we pick up the 6…always. YHC asked the PAX how many of each exercise they may have had left. We went with whomever had the highest number and then the entire group would bang out the rest of the reps to complete that set. We did this for the merkins, dips, and squats. During this time, it was difficult to pick up the math to finish reps…16-Bit was bent on getting the math right! Who does what…who does how many, etc.
Mary: When YHC asked if there were any combatives today, the experienced site Q’s replied that they had done enough. So on to Mary. 50 LBC’s IC, 25 WW1’s, 13 H2M, 12 Pickle Pounders. Have a nice day!
Announcements: HS Half Nov. 14th. Holly Springs PD has their Angel Tree up and ready. Martini is a point of contact for this. Sheepdog and the Nest will serve as drop off sites for these items. Dovetail garage sale on Nov. 14th…all serious offers will be accepted! He moves and needs help on Nov. 15th. Breach will bring the TEDTalk on Nov. 17th.
T-Claps (Recognition): Martini completed a half on birthday number 40…did it in almost 10 less minutes than his goal. Great work brother!
Prayer: Dovetail’s move, Noah’s Ark and Lipsync, 187 and his M, YHC and his M, dealing with some recent, recurring, and worsening health issues. Shredder took us out.

Burn out!

FNGs: none
Warm Up: SSH, SFAC, Daisys, Windmill, lap around the deck
The Workout: 6 exercises, 5 rounds, 1 min work and 15 sec rest. Lawnmower, tricep extensions, ground pounders, curls for the girls, overhead press, and goblet squats

Disney 11/5

11 men went on a magical journey to Disney World this AM @Sprinkler @Fanny Pack @Oboe @bondo @Nemo @Crab Legs @187 @POTS @Kosher @FRAM.

Warm Up: A quick jog around the soccer field and 22 count reps of SSH, Imperial Walkers/Hillbillies, Windmills and Daisy Pickers

The Workout: We had our Friend Chesty Puller join us for a mosey down to Sprinklers truck for some coupons before we took a trip to the abyss. Once we arrived at the abyss we partnered up for a very exciting Dora that consisted of 100 merkins, 200 squats, and 300 LBC’s. When partner 1 was going to the bottom of the abyss for a ladder of burpees partner 2 would chip away at the exercises. Everyone had to take a turn, taking chesty to the bottom and bringing him back up, many coupons were also transported in the process. Took a mosey back to the parking lot for mary.

Mary: Circle up for some more 22 count exercises of Low, slow flutters, Freddie merceries, and some side plank reach throughs.

The point of the exercise was to simulate how it would be to carry someone on the battlefield if they were injured as we are on the verge of veterans day. A small reminder of the price some had to pay to keep our country safe and to protect our way of life.

Announcements: Winter CSAUP planning in the process will be a ruck style event that will span some of the AO’s in the Quay. Looking at the weekend of Dec 5th or Dec 12th. Details to follow soon.

Crab Legs had a great message to share about the importance of all the efforts that we have had around ALS research and how it is making a huge impact on his life as well as the lives of others.

Prayer: Keep Crab legs in our prayers, Fanny Pack, and his wife as she is working through some medical issues and for our country to move forward on a positive note regardless of the election outcome.

Hard

The workout at Tiger Blood never disappoints. There is always a first of something (congrats Full House) and for a brief moment the mumble chatter is excellent. Then the running starts and the mumble chatter dissipates. The workout this morning was brought to you by Prefontaine who thought it a great idea to run 3 miles in 200m increments of 30 and 40 seconds. For those of you that suck at Math that is 4:00m/mile pace and 5:20m/mile. Well we gave it the old college try to math 30/40 but Olympians we are not so we settled for our 5k pace for 200m followed by a pace 80 s/mile slower. For YHC that was 6:27/7:47.

FNGs: I wish
Warm Up: About a mile with some dynamic stretching. Plus a fence hop.
The Workout: 2 miles at paces described earlier, 400m recovery, 1 mile at paces above.
Mary: Static stretching with the varying levels of flexibility were on display. Work on that.
Announcements: HSHM 11/14@0700, Frosty details coming soon but appears to be a ruck. Guys get your weight below 150 so you only have to ruck 20lbs. Upcoming Ted Talk with Breach about how you are a badass in combat and compassionate and giving at home. Murph at Thunder next Wednesday for Veterans Day.

What’s your favorite exercise?

It’s always interesting to think back about when you first met people that you’ve known for a while. For Skidmark and YHC it was running near (or sometimes with) each other at Run Club from Tapline back in the day. Back then we would run 5 miles at 8:30/mile and then sit around at the bar and laugh about how “fast” we were. Little did we know at the time that we would end up both joining F3 (YHC via South Wake, Skidmark through CarPex), becoming involved, and slowly becoming better and better friends. Over the years we’ve consistently pushed, encouraged, and supported one another.

Once Skidmark said he wasn’t necessarily going to Q for his big day I decided I would pick up the Q in honor of him. I planned to do many of his favorites including the dreaded “what’s your favorite exercise” question per the backblast title. Prior to Friday Skid made it clear that he wouldn’t be at Cletus, but would be out for a morning run instead. As another participant in the “Bad Ideas Challenge” of Holly Springs Run Club I had a pretty good idea what he was up to, but we wouldn’t know the specifics until we saw the 6+ hour 40 mile activity on Strava mid-day Friday.

YHC pulled into the parking lot to find Abe already there. Vehicle evidence could be seen in the far lot showing that Skidmark, Lipstick, and 187 were out for the beginning of Skid’s mosey already. Within the next few minutes they made their way over and were joined by Oboe and Doc along with a surprise appearance from some of the Fritter Foundation in Emeril, Dumbo, and Dawgpound. There was some salt quickly expressed about Skidmark not being present for the birthday Q – c’est la vie, it was already too late to switch to Crazy Ivan!

Each pax was asked for their favorite exercise – Abe chose bear crawls (much to YHC’s glee), Oboe chose Low Slow Flutter, while the entirety of the Fritter Foundation seems infatuated with Have A Nice Days.

FNGs: None

Warm Up:

After a mosey over to the far parking lot we circled up for 40x SSH. At this point Katniss and Dumbo moseyed in – something about running, sleeping, I’m not sure. But they were late and there were burpees to be had for it. So we did 5x burpees and then completed warmup:

Daisy Pickers x10

Sir Fazio x10 forward & backward

Good Morning x10

The Workout:

One of Skidmark’s many favorites – the merkin clock. We made it through 1 through 10 before calling it for now.

For our first act we honored Abe’s favorite exercise – we Bear Crawled nearly the length of the parking lot. Conveniently stopping at Skidmark’s truck.

We then moseyed to the amphitheater for 40 counts of balls to the wall and people’s chair – 3 times through each.

Mosey towards the far parking lot and passed it to the white fence for one of YHC’s favorites – typerwriters. We did 10 reps on each wrung and slid down and back – repeated 5 times total.

Mosey back to the parking lot near Skid’s truck for Oboe’s favorite – 40x low slow flutter. We added 40x squats to allow the timing to work – at this point Skidmark came around ~6 miles into his mosey. We ran with him over to the concession stand. At this point we rewarded the Fritter boys who liked Have a Nice Day along with what Skidmark told us was one of his favorites – Catch me If You Can Indian Runs. We did one lap of the soccer fields with the pax in three groups with 1 quick Have a Nice Day (aka a Turkish Getup) for the pax in the back. Can’t speak for the other pax but 187 and YHC had a lot of fun making Lipstick work to catch us 🙂

Mary:

We then circled up on the tennis court for mary. Pax were asked for the mission of F3 South Wake – we planked for a few minutes and we were done.

Announcements:

2nd F is alive and well at Panera. Holly Springs Half run on November 14th.
T-Claps (Recognition):
