Penis and Balls

It’s the first day of winter.  You can’t wake up in May and start thinking about going to the pool and looking good, that has to start now.  Numbers wain during the cold months but these are the months that make the warm months easier.  Get out there and do something, no matter what the weather.

FNGs: None

Warm Up:

SSH x20 IC

Sir Fazio Arm circles x10 IC forward and reverse

Seal Claps x10 IC

Overhead claps x10 IC

Imperial Walkers x10 IC

Hillbillies x10 IC

The Workout:

We headed to the pavilion for our first set of exercises when the title of this backblast was found.  Inside the pavilion was a box of canned goods and various articles of clothing, obviously for some sort of drive.  There was also purple chalk writings on the floor with stars and sparkles.  YHC paid no attention to it as he assumed that some little girls were just playing the day before.  It wasn’t until we got down for LBC’s that someone pointed out that, in purple, was written Penis and Balls with corresponding illustrations.  Never would have guessed that was what it was.

We started with an LBC circuit pyramid.  We did standard LBCs, reverse LBCs, knees to the right LBCs, and then knees to the left LBCs.  We did 5, then 10, then 15, then 10, then back down to 5.  It was a total of 180 LBCs of one kind or another.

After that we went down to the curved wall for what I called an Irkins, Dirkins, and Dips bear crawl typewriter.  This worked out better in my head than in practice but it was still “fun”.  The goal was to start in irkin position, do 1 rep, and then have the last person in line bear crawl to the other side and get back up.  We’d then do 2 irkins.  So on and so forth until we hit 5 and then we started at 1 again.  When we hit the middle of the wall where the steps were we went back the other way.  We completed a full round of irkins.

Dirkins didn’t go so well.  We pivoted to duck walks because they’re faster but we only made it to the steps when YHC called an audible because he didn’t feel like we were going to survive the trip back down.  We then went in to dips with crab walks.  Once we reached the end of the wall we made our way back to the pavilion.

Here we did a step up pyramid, in similar fashion as the LBCs, with a set of 10 irkins in between each round of step ups.  Then it was down to the baseball field.  At the backstop we all held People’s Chair while someone ran the bases.  After that it was a quick set of BTTW with People’s Chair with seal claps or overhead claps in between.  Then it was back to the flag for…

Mary:

Rocky Balboa x15 IC (I think?  There was so much mumble chatter that I just kept going to see if anyone would pay attention.  Eventually someone started counting again and they picked it up at 13 and I stopped at 15.  I think we did more but no one was counting.)

Homer to Marge x15 IC

Chill cut plank hold -> Standard plank hold -> Chill cut plank hold

Pickle pounders x10 IC

Freddie Mercury x10 IC

Hello Dolly x10 IC

Day 2: 5 Days of Fankle, The Mystery and History of Ray Finkle

FNGs: none

PAX: @Sunshine, @Pumps, @Pots, @Finkle, @Martini, @Florence/FloJoe, @Bobby Boucher, @Warbucks
Warm Up: Mosey around the park track then circled up for 10 SSH, Daisy Pickers, Good Mornings, Sir Fazio Arm Circles f/b and Michael Phelps in cadence.
The Workout: First event was 4 corners in the parking lot and at each corner YHC shared historical facts about the real Ray Finkle aka Uwe Detlef Walter von Schamann.  As usual Hollywood has twisted the facts about this fictional character.  After a deep dive into the history of this modern day marvel “Finkle” we find a true champion and a culprit!  Back to the workout…

At each corner we did a prescribed exercise.  Round 1 was 4X4’s (4 burpees into plank then 4 merkins, 4 mountain climbers, and back up), lunges – 10 each leg, alternating shoulder taps in cadence to 10 and ending with Bobby Hurleys.  Round 2 was Boat Canoes, Crab cakes, Jack Webbs (set of 4), and star jumps.

2nd event was getting personal under our newly rehab’d pavilion.  We did 2 sets of gyno-crunches, procto-derkins, and step-ups 10 each side.

3rd event was California Rolls down at the wall.  We did sets of 10 Irkens and dips R/R till we reached the end of the wall.

Finkle Facts:

  1. In the movie Ace Ventura: Pet Detective the character Ray Finkle is in reality Dolphins kicker Uwe von Schamann.
  2. Uwe Detlef Walter von Schamann (born April 23, 1956) is a former professional American football placekicker.  He played for the Miami Dolphins of the National Football League, from 1979 to 1984.
  3. In the real Super Bowl XIX, Von Schamann made three field goals and an extra point in this game.
  4. In the movie Finkle missed the game-winning field goal in a fictional Super Bowl XIX. The latter play actually occurred six years later in Super Bowl XXV by the Buffalo Bills kicker Scott Allen Norwood.  The real culprit…
  5. Norwood’s field goal range was unusually short for a professional kicker and he had difficulties in converting field goals over 40 yards throughout his career, especially on natural grass (the Bills’ home stadium used AstroTurf, which mitigated this issue).
  6. Super Bowl XXV, which was played on January 27, 1991, cemented Norwood’s name in football history when he missed a 47-yard field goal attempt with 8 seconds left in the game, giving the New York Giants their 2nd Super Bowl victory, and started the Bills’ string of four consecutive Super Bowl losses. This kick was made famous by the “wide right” call by the TV announcers. Later video analysis revealed the holder mistakenly aligned the laces to the right, thereby positioning the kicked ball to fade right once in the air.  Hmmm…interesting…Although the Bills signed Björn Nittmo as Norwood’s potential replacement in the 1991 offseason, Norwood remained with the Bills through that season. The Bills returned to the Super Bowl and Norwood was perfect throughout the postseason, including a 44-yard field goal that served as the decisive margin in the AFC Championship Game against the Denver Broncos.
  7. What was the dolphin’s name in the Ace Ventura: Pet Detective Movie? Snowflake
  8. What was Ray Finkle’s other name in the movie? Lois Einhorn
  9. Who did Ray Finkle murder in the movie? Roger Podacter, the Dolphin’s head of operations.
  10. The name of the mental hospital that Ray Finkle escaped from was named Shady Acres Mental Hospital.
  11. The mental hospital where Ventura goes undercover was named Shady Acres as a play on the name of director Tom Shadyac.

Mary: We did round-robin style with a mixture of abs, stretches, squats and the Sweater Fox (Boxcutters) decided to show up again to torture @Warbucks…

Ultimate 10 vs. 10

20 Men Showed Up for an Ultimate Show Down

FNGs: Sonny, now F3 Flicker, named for his awesome left-handed forehand throw, which is also known as a flick. Member of the RESPECT club at 57? Brought his own cooler, discs, and work clothes. :). Other new F3 faces to SouthWake: Sketch, MIA, Doogie
Warm Up: 25 SSH while Dauber ran and got the “pennies,” GMs x 10. Many had arrived in time to throw a few. I knew everybody was ready to play, so we got started. Disclaimer to our FNG Sonny. A few quick rules/procedures. If there’s a turnover in the end zone, you can walk it up to the goal line. Also, when “kicking off,” move up so that your clears mid-field.
The Workout: Ultimate for 35 minutes with exercises on the turnovers: SSHs, jump squats, squats, merkins. Plus, exercises upon scoring: burpees, WWIIs, merkins, and more. Final 10 minutes with no exercises except after scoring. We never really keep an official score, but it helps gauge the match. This morning, the “pennies” jumped on the scoreboard with two or three unanswered trips to the end zone. The “skins” finally settled down, shortened our throws, and got on the scoreboard. Again, unofficially, we had several ties and lead changes. Looks like my completely random passout of the pennies led to equal teams! This was fun!

Tons of great plays out there by all. Too many to remember. Lots of “jump balls” for high throws just about anywhere. Quiver tracked down a floater that looked like it was way beyond his reach. Banana Seat made some great catches but claims he can’t throw. Sonny posted in the middle and was the field marshal for the skins. He could pretty much place the disc anywhere he wanted, with a razor sharp forehand. Blue Hen and Fram knocked down multiple discs on defense. I could not shake Bobby Dall and Warbucks, who stuck to me like white on rice. Dauber had and excellent throw right down the middle to the end zone for the score. Shredder worked the edges and Mr. T worked the middle. And of course, Cupid and Roaming Gnome worked the end zone for their respective teams. Maybelline always lurking on defense, ready to knock one down. Kubota making solid throws in the middle. Great to have Sketch, MIA, Doogie join us–solid players who will join us the first Monday in 2022. Again, many good plays. Maybe we should get the TOHS footage! Meant to get a group photo, but many posted for second F at Panera, so I got one there.

Mary: No time for Mary, this was all game time.
Announcements: CSAUP The Judge this Saturday, December 11, 2021, starting at Fleming Loop Park. Also, Shop With A Cop is live on Slack. Make a donation. T-Claps (Recognition): Thanks to Dauber for sharing the Q. Especially after his pre- pre- pre-blast. I know he was feeling it, ready to play!
Prayers: Unspoken. Fram gathered in the spirit and took us out with a nice prayer.

At the Nest with Big Bird and the Sweater Fox

This is a late post for 11/23/2021

FNGs: None

PAX: @Warbucks, @Finkle, @Martini, @Banana Seat, @Florence/Flojoe, @Hardy
Warm Up: Mosey around the courtyard, and came back to do SSH, Daisy Pickers, Imperial Walkers,
The Workout:   LEG/CORE DAY  –  We went on a trip and encountered a couple friends.  We ran to the far corner and dropped to do Freddie Mercuries.  Then down to Main St. to pick up a round of mount climbers.  We ran up the hill to Ennis and Big Bird (@Martini in his yellow hoodie) was excited to do 3 rounds of step ups 10 each leg and 10 box jumps 3 rounds.  Then we moved down the block to do some Bars and Dan’s (Dan Taylors and shimmying up the bars on the ramp to the school).  Our commitment was to get to set 10.

Mary: Last we went over to the bus loop and the Sweater Fox (boxcutter exercise) showed up.  Each PAX took a turn being the timer as they ran a loop around the bus loop and called an ab exercise for those left behind to do.  @Warbucks said from his first time hearing the exercise “the boxcutter” he thought they called it the “fox sweater” and thus we evolved it into the Sweater Fox…somehow.  Lots of mumble chatter today!

ChooChoo MuthaTruckaaaaaaaa!!!

Downtown Train (where the ChooChoo never sleeps)

Had a really good group of guys the morning. Very proud of all the hard work that was put in. Got to meet @hasselhoff for the first time and nearly died from a toxic gas leak out of Bobby Boucher’s ass.

The most important thing I wanted to achieve from this workout was allowing time for proper CoT. I know that the workout is important but often times the CoT is neglected/shortened to just a quick count-off and prayer. CoT is vital and may be the only chance some guys get to really talk to one another if they aren’t able to make a 2nd F. So, I planned to start the workout immediately, warm up briefly, and work hard. Loved being encouraged by all of the guys hard work and accomplishments in the different things they were doing.

PAX: @Cancun @WarrenBrendle @Hasselhoff @Warbucks @BobbyBoucher @Quiver

FNGs: None

Warm Up: Mosey, side straddle hops, cobra, child pose.
The Workout: 20x 8 count Man-Makers, 20x 4 count Flutter Kicks, 20 Monkey Humpers, 20 second balls to the wall. Mosey’d around for a bit then rinsed and repeated.

Modified as needed. After the first round YHC changed up the Man-Makers to only be 10 oyo. Then we did 10 Merkins together.

Mary: Stretching hamstrings and lower back.
Announcements: HSHM coming up, Thanksgiving dinners for the food pantry, Veterans Day workout at Disney.
T-Claps (Recognition): Bobby Boucher (and all the other guys) for setting big goals for themselves and absolutely crushing them. Skidmark and McNugget for going for a long jog in NY. Warbucks for being awesome and organizing the Thanksgiving meals.
Prayer: Praise for Quiver and his M for celebrating 20 years married and celebrating the big 50 together. Also Quivers sister in-law. Hasselhoff friend having multiple health issues but hopefully is on the road to recovery and turning things around.

EMOM (not eMom)

FNGs: none
Warm Up: Quick jog around the Block™. Circled up for SSH x15, Good Mornings x10, Imperial Walkers x10, Hillbillies x10, Sir Fazio Arm Circles x10F / x10B, Seal Claps x10, Overhead Claps x10.
The Workout: YHC likes to try new things every once in a while. While researching exercises to try, I came across the EMOM concept. EMOM stands for Every Minute On the Minute. (Not to be confused with an eMom, or a mom you meet through online dating. Thanks for explaining Woody, the slide show was a bit much.) So you perform an exercise for, say, 20 reps. If you finish in a minute, you recover for the remainder of the time. I picked an upper body exercise, a lower body exercise and a conditioning exercise. Here’s how it went down (exercises 1 and 2 done with a rock):

Thing 1
Exercise 1: overhead press x20
Exercise 2: reverse lunge x15
Exercise 3: mountain climbers for 1 minute
Rest for 30 seconds.
Repeat for a total of 4 rounds.

Quick mosey around the library.

Thing 2
Exercise 1: curls x20
Exercise 2: squats x15
Exercise 3: SSH for 1 minute
Rest for 30 seconds.
Repeat for a total of 4 rounds.

We were running short on time but completed all 8 rounds. Returned rocks and headed back for Mary.
Mary: LBC x10 was all we had time for.
Announcements: Holly Springs Food Cupboard (great work all you HIM who are donating), Holly Fest booth (see slack to sign up for a spot)
T-Claps (Recognition): Stubs for continuing to beat the fartsack as he makes F3 a habit, Warbucks for being Warbucks.
Prayer: Praise for Stubs’s clear MRI, YHC’s MIL
