Abe visits the Nest

The call went out last night for a Q for the Nest. I’ve never been to the Nest, so I figured it was a good excuse to make the trek down to the ‘Quay. YHC didn’t have a plan going in. I got there a little early to scope it out, and seeing how squarely-shaped the park was, good ol’ 7 of Diamonds seemed to fit the bill. Martini and H1n1 were already there, running EC. Two FNGs showed up a few minutes before 0530 to make a nice, manageable team of 5. The newbie spiel was delivered and we were off.
FNGs
: Bogey (likes to golf) and his son Sweet Tea (works at Chick-Fil-A)
EC: Martini, H1N1
Warm Up
: Jogged around the parking lot, then circled up for SSH x 15, Imperial Walkers x 10, Hillbillies x 10, Fozio Arm Circles, 10 forward / 10 reverse, and Good Mornings x 10.
The Workout: 7 of Diamonds was the name of the game today. But instead of rounding the bases, we rounded Falcon Park. Round 1, 7 reps. Round 2, 14 reps, Round 3, well, you get the picture. Exercise one is the standard murkin. Exercise two is the prisoner squat. Exercise 3, catalina wine mixers. Exercise 4, WWIIs.
PAX then jogged around to the brick wall in the parking lot and grabbed some people’s chair. Everyone held people’s chair while one PAX rain down to the end of the parking lot and back. Then it was the next PAX’s turn. We did this until everyone had a turn to run.
We ended with a quick indian run around the parking lot.
Mary: LBCs x 15, Freddie Mercuries x 15, Shoulder Taps x 10, Pickle P0unders x 10, Reverse LBCs x 10, something else I forgot and American Hammers x 10.
Announcements: Mulch sign up
T-Claps (Recognition): Bogey and his son Sweet Tea for coming out and joining us in the gloom.
Prayer: Parents juggling their kids’ school, especially Norm’s wife who’s flying solo while Norm is away for training.

Guest Appearance by Tom Petty

Many training plans, one team. F3 strong is what I’m talking about. 20 fellas pushed themselves in various ways this morning.  The “bat flippers” were mostly present and accounted for on a 10 mile route. Team FML plus a few more got at least 10 miles while joining the classic U-Turn route and picking up the six…a lot. . Several more of us including YHC got between 6-9 miles with many mix-ins training for BRR and RDC marathon. Aquaman and Bernie were hitting 20 plus today.  Martini bagged a half marathon.

YHC message was simple as I was inspired by Dovetail’s post this week. If you struggle…good. If it hurts (not injured)…good. If it’s difficult… good.  If you fail… good.  If you make a mistake… good. Bottom line is I had a crappy week, and many of us can complain about many things.  BUT… if our M’s and kids are happy and healthy, if we have meaningful work to do, if we can exercise and have our health, if the Lord above loves us as sons even though we are messed up people, well then…good!
Warm Up: Imperial Walkers, Hillbillies, Good Mornings, Frankenstein’s
The Workout: Standard U-Turn route.  Lots of picking up the 6..,which was often YHC.
Mary: Runners Stretch And Pigeon Pose with almost a full…OUT LOUD… sing along to Tom Petty by none other than THE Dawgpound! The song…Last Dance with Mary Jane! Not gonna lie…the way my feet and knees hurt… I get the song big time today. But enough of that for now…
Announcements: Go mulch. There may be an additional week or two added.
T-Claps (Recognition): Martini on the half marathon today.  Strong work brother. Lots of picking up the 6.  All those elites out there…many of you for picking up my six!
Prayer: Pikachu’s M and health issues. Protection from injury illness for pax with races coming up. YHC took us out…and then a few pax went to join Martini as he completed his half… THAT is what this is about!

Just a little backwards yogging

19 PAX in total out to celebrate National Backwards Day (which is really January 31st, who knew!) and a reverse U-turn track.  Multiple PAX grabbed extra miles for EC this morning prepping for BRR.

The warm up – SSH, IW, daisy pickers, windmills, good mornings, 10 burpees OYO.  19 PAX set off for a leisurely stroll, reverse u-turn heading up through by Target first and then down the hill on Irving, up Green Oaks and into 12 Oaks before returning back to Panera.  Post run circled up for Skidmark’s version of some stretching by watching some chick on a video…some yelled out porn, but couldn’t be confirmed.  YHC determined best to just wrap this thing up.

Announcements, mulch sign up, volunteers are still needed, repeat offenders are welcomed.  FV/HS convergence this week, make sure to check as not all AO’s will be open this week or next.  Great job by the entire group today picking up the six.  No spoken prayer requests, but honor those unspoken and for our first responders, military and for our nation.

Those Star Jumps Gave Us a Break

EC: YHC solo, but it was flat… that was nice.  I just ran til I ran out of lights.

FNG’s: none

YHC did s two-for in the FV this week. I was less familiar with this site, but between running EC and using parking lots… we had plenty of work to do.  Thanks to my FV pax for welcoming me (from the Springs) as I had the honor of Q at a couple of your home turf places in SouthWake.  7 pax zipped around parking lines in strong fashion this morning at the Grave!
Warm Up: Good Mornings, Sir Fazios F/R, Seal Claps, Daisy Pickers, Hillbillies, and Frankenstein’s all x10 IC.  Warm up mosey around community center stopping along the way for 13 ct. of SSH, Mountain Climbers, and Imperial Walkers.
The Workout: There are 14 parking spaces on each side of the strip that we chose in the KG parking lot. We used those several times for our workout today. Round 1: Pax typewriter crawl all parking curbs and the end island along both sides of the “zipper”. (28 parking spaces). Round 2: similar to round 1 except pax do “happy feet”/fast feet all the way around. Round 3: we did Burpee/Star Jumps alternating in each spot all the way around.  It was at this point that Finkle stated “at least we had a break with the star jumps”.  I thought most pax hated those too? Round 4: Slightly different here. Pax lunge walk and on each stripe, they stop and do a Prisoner Squat for that number of stripe (ie. Stripe 1= 1 squat, stripe 14= 14 squats etc.) The pax did start back at 1 when going to the other side of spaces as Norm mentioned the time it would eventually take to complete this otherwise. But…different idea for a different Q! YHC had I think the perhaps toughest round of all planned for round 5, but time was running low so…

We did clockwork merkins as a pax until all pax and YHC twice, called a number.
Mary: Descending ladders of exercises with 15,10, then 5 IC counts.  Exercises were: Dying Cockroach, Homer to Marge, Freddie Mercury’s, and LBC’s.
Announcements: Q shift for next two weeks, check the Slack and let the smack talk begin! Mulch is good for this week, but needed for future weeks. During Q shift weeks, we are taking donations for the residents at Healing Transitions.  Bring clothes for HS week, bring hygiene items for FV week. Let’s help these fellas out!

T-Claps (Recognition):Norm And YHC for parking our vehicles as such to save 1 parking space of pain!
Prayer: Military, first responders, our Nation. We as men to be a source of peace in chaos, and to bring unity during a very divided time. To live 3rd!  Honor to lead men.

Did You Put Those Deer There?

YHC has been trying to get down to “the Quay” more often. Figured if I sign up to Q, I’ll head down there. So YHC decided to Q a couple FV places he’s only been a couple times. Lemme Q Possum Trot and Kenny’s Grave back to back.  You never know what can happen right? After lagging behind somewhat on the EC, YHC was determined to hit at least 3 spots with challenging intensity. At arrival, Fonzie was already game planning for his beatdown to deliver during Q challenge week coming up. So I figured, I better throw out something good today. 13 pax posted strong today!

EC: Fanny Pack, Fonzie, LED, Shamwow!, And Norm (who did about a 1/4 mile catch up as he rolled in a bit late for EC…impressive).

FNG’s: POTS boy…welcome Meatball.  Swedish Metal Music = Meatball. Good enough!
Warm Up: SSH x 30, Good Mornings, Imperial Walkers, Squatted Seal Claps, Squatted Arm Circles F/R, Squatted Overhead Claps, Moroccan Night Clubs.
The Workout: Moseyed a loop and did 11’s on the big grass hill at the corner.  We did Mountain Climbers IC at the bottom, dips on the guardrail up top.  Mosey to the tennis court for some stacked Suicides on the lines. We stacked up and then unstacked with some extra absolutions for our 6.  Line exercises were: 5 absolutions, 10 burpees, 15 star jumps, 20 merkins, 25 monkey humpers, 30 LBC, 35 SSH.  Then we took the same stack back.

Mosey to the restroom pavilion for each pax 10 ct. of people’s Chair x2, and a 10 ct. each pax of BTTW. Finished down there, with 2 deer onlooking, with a dozen of each: shoulder taps, nipplers, Merkins. LED comments, “man Fanny Pack… Did you put those deer there?”  I aim to please…mosey back to the flag for Mary Mary: Feel the PT road rash… 20 Box Cutters, 20 H2M.
Announcements: Q shift week coming up… check Slack.  Mulch continues.., check Slack.  Sign up to Q…seriously fellas…check Slack.
T-Claps (Recognition): Breach showing great instructional form on burpees and absolutions. LED for doing an extra few lines during the suicide stack. My FV brothers for allowing YHC to come to their turf to practice my trade!
Prayer: In a strong move of boldness, Meatball… the FNG… took us out.  See you tomorrow my FV brothers!

Isn’t that a dead end…wrong there’s a hill

Q sheet was empty so FML decided to take a leap and Q the workout since we needed most of us only needed 5 miles this morning while following the training plan. YHC was excited to catch up with Mookie who was like BOOM!! when the Q sheet slot filled. Unfortunately there are sometimes more pressing issues like late nights with the family, illnesses, hangovers, or sometimes the fartsack just wins baby. I’m not going to speculate as I believe the sleeping in was needed. Next time Mookie, next time.

FML rolls in style. We promised 2nd trunk coffee complete with all the fixins in a picnic basket. No donuts or fritters, sorry.

YHC rolled up early to set up coffee and there was only 1 EC, Vaseline, who for 2 days in a row drove to the workout. Congrats on the PR.

Route was secret until time to post but I promised hills and we’d keep our feet dry. Minus the sweat, they stayed dry. We started with 11 but finished with 12. See how that works, you can come back with more, but never less.

FNGs: None
Warm Up: Leg swings side to side and front to back, tiger claws, and some hip opening things
The Workout: The route went like this: Down Stinson and across Bass Lake Rd, into Sunset Ridge. Turn R at the first road and continue staying right until Sunset Walk, Sunset Walk to Gable Ridge, Turn R on Gable Ridge to Linksland. Turn R on Linksland. Follow Linksland to the end where some thought this was a dead end but it actually meets up with Salem Ridge again. Turn Left on Salem Ridge and loop back up to Linksland. Turn Right on Linksland. Follow Linksland past the driving range and pool and turn L on Gable Ridge. Follow Gable Ridge and turn R on Sunset Walk. From here follow the route back to Womble. At the peak of every hill we picked up the 6: Stinson, Sunset Walk, Linksland and Gable Ridge, Salem Ridge and Linksland, Linksland and Gable Ridge (after pool), Sunset Walk, Stinson at Womble.
Mary: Some stretching OYO
Announcements: mulch

“Wow, these really are gold!”

It was a search for treasure.

Gold, specifically.

Sorry for the late BB post here, YHC had a whirlwind of a time since the AO, and only now getting back in front of the computer after a trip to Beech Mountain and a day of downhill mountain biking.

Warm Up:

Shredder, Mr. Terrific, and Fumunga for EC.

Side straddle hops, Moroccan night clubs, Frankensteins, and trunk twists, then mosey to the first stop.

The Workout:

Workout consisted of five stations (we only completed 4 before time), each station holding hidden treasure in the form of a small stack of gold playing cards. One man was chosen (or volunteered) to hunt, while everyone else held a squat. Once the treasure was found, the 5-6 cards dictated the exercises thusly:

♦ – 3 reps, ♠ – 6 reps, ♣ – 9 reps, ♥ – 12 reps

  • Ace: One-arm merkins
  • 2: Thighmaster – hold lunge position, pulse up and down in cadence. Suit count for each leg
  • 3: Travoltas – side plank, other arm points up, then shoots through arm
  • 4: Freddy Mercury
  • 5: Failure to Launch – squat hold for 10-count, then explode upward, land in a squat
  • 6: Shrimp-on-the-Bar-B – plank position, crunch arm and opposite leg
  • 7: Sterkin – step up each leg, then erkin. That’s 1 rep
  • 9: Not Quite Lay-Z-Boys – on your six, arms and legs up, extend and lean back as much as possible until you roll back or touch the ground. That’s 1 rep.
  • 10: Twinkle Toes – squat hold with calf raises, in cadence
  • Jack: J-Los – Elbow plank hold, hips rotate side to side to kiss the ground
  • King: King of Hearts – karaoke suicides

Combatives:

Sitting kick defense – front kick (remember to thrust hips forward!), twist kick (hips shift out L, R leg kicks to the outside, then switch legs), side fall turn kicks

Announcements:

Take me out to the ball game

This morning YHC promised some fun at the workout while everyone was gathering around.  Not “fun” fun but actual fun.  I hope I delivered on that.

FNGs: Not today

EC: Norm

Warm Up:

Lap around the tennis courts and then circle up in the parking lot for:

SSH x20 IC

Frankenstein x10 IC

Butt Kickers x10 IC

Windmills x10 IC

Daisy Pickers x10 IC

Imperial Walkers x10 IC

Merkins x10

The Workout:

A quick swing past my car to grab a ball and bat and we ran down to the concession stand to rip off some quick sets at the short wall.  We did 10 stepups with each leg (20 in all), and then 10x irkins, dips, and dirkins.

Afterwards we headed down to the softball field and met at home plate.  PAX counted off to establish batting order and instructions were given.  Each one would get up to bat and hit the ball.  We would all run to the ball and the batter would call out a 10 count of an excercise of their chosing.  If the ball did not make it past the pitcher’s mound before hitting the ground there would be 2 penalty burpees and a strike out would result in 5 burpees.  Luckily no one struck out and there were only two instances of the ball not making it in the air past the mount.  Lots of different exercises were called out and I can’t remember them all but there were burpees (there always has to be that one guy), star jumps, bobby hurleys, LBCs, big boy situps, monkey humpers, and a lot more.  I think in all we made it through 16 batters.

After the first time through the line up we “ran the bases”.  Bear crawls were done from home to 1st base, crawl bears from 1st to 2nd, crab walks from 2nd to 3rd, and duck walks from 3rd to home.  Afterwards we started back at the top of the lineup.

Once we started to run out of time we gathered on the drive way for a slow Indian run up to the tennis courts to circle up for…

Mary:

YHC called out an exercise that he learned while perusing the exicon one night called the Dr. W.  It’s an 8 count exercise.  I’ll let the exicon describe it:

“Dr. W is a sufferable 8-count ab exercise that combines Dolly, Rosalita, and the W; often within the 6MOM. Always a #CrowdPleaser. 1 is legs apart like a Low Dolly, 2 is legs together, 3 is raise the legs to Rosalita position (45-60 degrees-ish), 4 is spread ‘em, 5 is The W (hands together and stretching forward between your legs), 6 is the return to your back (legs still up), 7 is legs together, 8 is legs down. 5-8 Dr. W’s is a good start to get the pax coordinated with the counting. 10 is a magic # that most build up to 15 is just dumb and torture #FetalPositionMaker Qtip – We always emphasize that the W is on the 5 count. Kinda breaks down the motions and gives a 2nd starting point.”

We did 10 of those.  I like them, they’re fun.  After that it was 10x American Hammers and then HAND.

Announcements:

Bass Lake mulch again this weekend.  There were several HIM that signed up but now can’t do it so there are open slots for those interested.

New COVID friendly BRR guidelines came out yesterday from the race director.

Prayer:

1st responders.

Crosby has been sick.  Hopefully he recovers soon and can get back to his regular not posting.

Thanks for the privilege of leading you all this morning.
