ChooChoo MuthaTruckaaaaaaaa!!!

Downtown Train (where the ChooChoo never sleeps)

Had a really good group of guys the morning. Very proud of all the hard work that was put in. Got to meet @hasselhoff for the first time and nearly died from a toxic gas leak out of Bobby Boucher’s ass.

The most important thing I wanted to achieve from this workout was allowing time for proper CoT. I know that the workout is important but often times the CoT is neglected/shortened to just a quick count-off and prayer. CoT is vital and may be the only chance some guys get to really talk to one another if they aren’t able to make a 2nd F. So, I planned to start the workout immediately, warm up briefly, and work hard. Loved being encouraged by all of the guys hard work and accomplishments in the different things they were doing.

PAX:Ā @Cancun @WarrenBrendle @Hasselhoff @Warbucks @BobbyBoucher @Quiver

As promised a never done before F3 workout Indoors! Basketball full Court!!

Warm Up: Moseyed to indoor Basketball gym.

Stood on Baseline for the Pledge of All Allegiance

Workout: We had exactly 20 so we divided up into 4 groups and played 2 separate games of full court 5 on 5. We rotated after halfway. I don’t think our ball skills were very sharp in the beginning. Most of the PAX got better as time progressed except for Guatemalan. He pretty much stood in the same place every time and asked for the ball.

I know sometimes we do a lot of the same things every week. Thought this would be fun to mix it up a bit. Those that shined like @pumps because he has skills and @Fram the rest made up for it in fouls and large bodies pushing and shoving. Thank God we did not call fouls today. I would have fouled out before the second game…BTW I am pretty sure my Team won both games @bobby bouche @deadbolt @mookie @maddog. Next time we play @banannaseat will be on a 3-man team due to his speed!

Mary: No Time

T Claps: Bosshog and the new addition to the Family! Congratulations

Prayers: Thanks for the prayer support for my Mom. Our Country, Injured PAX, 3rd cousin who took a dive OTW back. Hope he is okay!

“Was that a deer just ran in front of us?”

PAX:Ā  Woody, Deadbolt, Hazmat, Pots, Sprinkler, Bobby Boucher

Warm Up:Ā  SSH, good mornings, frankensteins, handful of merkins

Wouldn’t you know it, the damn dog woke me up around 2:30, started to drift back to sleep around 3:30 but I never quite got there.Ā  Any other day I would’ve fartsacked, but such is life.Ā  It had been a while since I visited the abyss so that was on the agenda, along with some Team 1 vs. Team 2 points-based competition.Ā  That didn’t quite go as planned, audibles were called because of numbers, so whatever.

Damn, it’s dark out here!Ā  Moseying to the abyss we couldn’t see a darn thing, no lights, overcast sky and I questioned if we could/should attempt those stairs.Ā  Halfway there, what I think was a deer ran right out in front of us, crossed our path about 15 yards away and disappeared into the woods.Ā  I said to Bobby Boucher – “Was that a deer just ran in front of us??”, to which he replied “I dunno man, I can’t see s**t”.

And down we go…

The Workout:Ā  Partnered up for a little Dora.Ā  One ran the stairs while the other performed the exercises, to total 100 merkins, 200 LBC, 300 Toe Taps.Ā  Crushed it, moseyed to the picnic tables for dips, 30, I think.Ā  On to the turf fields where the 6 PAX split into two teams of 3.Ā  YHC named each team in hopes of building competitive enthusiasm but it never really took off.

First match – Bear crawl tunnel, 3 reps each, followed immediately by train track hops, 3 reps each.Ā  Team 2 was made up entirely of the “Respect” crowd yet managed to whip Team 1.Ā  Like, not even close.

Mosey back to tables for more dips and repeat the Bear Crawl/Train Track match. Team 1 was again victorious.

Back to the tables for last set of dips then to the turf for a group Indian Run to the far side of the field, where we dropped for a set of Carolina Dry Docks.Ā  Reverse Indian Run (back pedal) back to the start, more Carolina Dry Docks.

Grand Finale:Ā  A 10-ish yard Worm relay race!Ā  That’s right, an old school 80’s style breakdance move as our closing event!Ā  Well, that was the plan, but what actually took place didn’t quite live up to the image in my head.Ā  We were just comically terrible.

Who won?Ā  No idea, I was laughing too hard.

Announcements:Ā  Various 9/11 events this weekend, BRR.Ā  Impromptu mention of what’s been on my mind, something I’d been reminded of a few times the last couple weeks – envy/comparison is the thief of joy.Ā  It’s something I continue to fall back into – this guy’s new car, that guy’s cool job/big house/hot wife, the list is endless if you let your mind go that way, but we’ll never really be happy if we do.Ā  Just like during an F3 workout, you’re the only one out here…but you’re never alone.
Prayer:Ā  Safety for our BRR brothers, peace and healing for those mourning on this 20th anniversary of 9/11.

3-Alarm 8/24/21 – Fartsack Explained, Gatorade Expired, With Some Dead Animal Stench in Between

Ā

FNGs: Cole (F3 Snooze)
Warm Up: Count off and pre-run announcements
The Workout: 4 miles in Hilly Glen

Back in June, 3-Alarm (Davis) wanted to share a few words before each workout, so he texted me those words for my delivery at the next run. What I didn’t expect was to video myself speaking those words on Davis’ behalf and then sending the video to him for review. Since then, I’ve delivered Davis’ speech every time we have new runners at SouthWake’s best AO (certainly the most joyful). And I’ve embellished it each time with Davis’ approval. Davis also asked us to define F3 terms, so he can participate in the conversation and not be confused by Purple Cobra, Merkin, AO, COT, and of course, Fartsack. Today, @Dumbo entertained all—especially @3-Alarm, with his firsthand account of Fartsacking.

After these standard announcements and a count-off of 12, then 13 with Cupid’s late arrival, we took off. Very impressive seeing 13 PAX run up the street with Davis rolling and the flag waving.

For the second time this month, Davis brought an FNG. This week, we picked up Cole, a senior at HSHS and avid rugby player and sleeper. It took us a minute to find his house, but Davis came through. Cole joined us on a run wearing sweat pants—the big, heavy cotton type that would be great if you were camping in 20 degree weather. But it was 95 degrees out. I asked if he wanted to change and he said no. Cole hammered through the run in spite of bruises and old injuries (broken femur five years ago). At COT, he earned the name @Snooze because it takes several alarms to wake him up in the morning. When asked what he likes to do for fun, he said he likes to chill and doze off, hence the name @Snooze, penned by @Pikachu. Davis had met Cole and recruited him while on a walk the week before.

We also swung by Charlie’s house. Earlier in August, we picked up FNG Charlie—an avid BMX’er and MTB’er, who earned the name @Cash Roll after a BMX trick invented by Daniel Dhers (2021 Olympic Silver medalist, BMX freestyle; and owner/operator of Daniel Dhers Action Sports Complex, right here in little ol’ Holly Springs). Finally, we got going on rhythm with the run. Down Avent Meadows, up Holly Moor. Here, Cole pushed Davis straight up the hill with an assist from Pikachu. This is not an easy hill!

Several runners rotated in to push Davis—Emeril, Dumbo. We stopped at intersections to let cars go by and to keep our PAX together. Pikachu showed us how to climb Holly Thorn Trace, nearly a mile straight uphill, going faster pushing Davis than most of us can run solo. The stop sign at the top is a good spot to rest, catch your breath, and pick up the six. But today, there was the distinct odor of a dead animal. This thing made the landfill smell like roses. After picking up the six, we gladly moved on.

Cupid had the privilege to push Davis back down the hill. On the way back, Cancun found us as he drove his search vehicle through the neighborhood. He and both 2.0s rolled back to the house and set up the splash zone. Maybelline and I bolted back to the house—Maybelline to hop in the car to pick up his son and me to help splash.

Pikachu ran Davis back and forth through the sprinkler. Cancun’s 2.0 Oliver freely squirted just about everyone with a squirt gun and exclaimed the my SUV was not a ā€œtruck.ā€ Wild Turkey soaked Davis’ hat and placed it on Davis’ head. Dumbo and others stuck their head in the sprinkler. COT and one burpee by Pikachu and we were done. Finally, after most had left, Wild Turkey and Snooze were enjoying some Gatorade, when Snooze realized it was expired by 2 years! Uh oh. Davis got a real kick out of that. If Wild Turkey and Snooze return next time, we’ll know they are OK. Another successful 3-Alarm run!
