Ultimate Bloodbath

Your YHC led this bloodbath 232-4 (OK,  it was all fantasy in my head as we did not keep score). 23 PAX joined in some Ultimate fun. It was good to have several PAX that had never played with us out there. Thanks for letting me “lead” (and I use that term lightly)

Cadence Can Kill

A cold morning over in the Quay this morning. YHC was very glad to see a few cars roll in while returning from a nice EC route still lit up by Christmas lights…cuz everyone knows YHC just can’t see so good! Turned out to be a co-Q with 6 PAX, as FedEx had an extra kettlebell and I had extra’s which gave everyone something of everything!

FNG’s: No.

Warm Up: FedEx led the circle. SSH x 25, Good Mornings, Fazio Arm Circles, Imperial Walkers, Hillbillies, Michael Phelps, 5x Burpees.
The Workout: Kettlebell Thang 1st: YHC cooked up a 12/28 reps workout. Most Pax finished before FedEx took over the Q again. 12 Halos, 28 Bell Merkins, 12 Shoulder Press Each Side, 28 Tricep Press, 12 Squats, 28 Swings, 12 Curls for the Girls Each Arm, 28 Lawnmowers alternate sides, 12 Midget Love Handles, 28 Boobity Boobity’s, 12 Figure 8’s, 12 Clean/Jerk/Press.

Next Thang was on FedEx and he killed us with reps and cadence. Legs and Shoulders were hit hard. We did 20, 14, and 12 counts of: Step Ups, Pulse Squats IC, and Side Lunges. Then it was 20, 14, and 12 counts of Dry Docks, Dips IC, and Shoulder Taps IC.

Mary: FedEx took the lead for Leg Raises, Freddie Mercury’s, Standard and Side Planks with arms/legs up. Pickle Pounders

Announcements: Monthly challenge is out there for accountability. Check Slack.
T-Claps (Recognition): Sparky…out for his 2nd workout! FedEx for coming prepared to combine if necessary.
Prayer: Thanks for my M’s recovery. PAX who are doing this on their own in F3 nation…getting after it. FedEx took us out!

Not my A Game

A down week in running allowed YHC to become a little more involved in the bootcamp scene that has been so badly missed so what better way to get back at than picking up a couple Qs. Been a while since I’ve been down in the Quay so figured I make the trip to PT. Researched some previous backblasts and noticed there hadn’t been a tour of Varina in a while. Unfortunately my memory left me and some of the locations were not what I remembered. Regardless it was nice to see a good turnout this brisk winter morning.

EC: Pikachu from home, Skidmark

FNGs: None
Warm Up: SSH, Imperial Walkers, Hillbillies, Sir Fazio Arm Circles, Moroccan Nightclubs, Overhead claps, Seal claps, Good mornings
The Workout: 3 Indian Run lines mosey to the flag pole. The initial plan was for 21’s of WWIIs and Box jumps but the wall was higher than I thought and none of us earned an Olympic Medal in the high jump so we settled for step ups which ended up being quite time consuming. (modified)
Mosey to the giant wall for Preacher chair and then Ascending Testicles with merkins. Rumor was all Flex spending accounts were emptied and dental deductables not met so modified the testicles to Balls to the Wall after 1 set. 2 more sets of Preacher chair and BTTW.
Mosey to the home of the FV Democratic Party Headquarters or as many of us care to call it: Stephen’s Hardware. Jump up the rail for some side plank walks I guess. Quick feet as we wait for the 6.
Mosey to Aviator. Bear Crawl up the ramp as smell BBQ. Repeat.
Mosey the walk through wall for a set of dips, erkins, and derkins.
Mosey back to the park for 4 sets of Big Bang (reference exicon here).
Mary: 7 minutes in heaven. Yes, we did plank hold with various core exercises.
Announcements: 2ndF at Stick Boy, GrowRuck, GrowRuck light, heavy something. See Pablo for details. Monthly challenge
T-Claps (Recognition):
Prayer: Deadbolt hasn’t been feeling well. Hoping 2021 is better for most. YHC took us out

Bday Q #5 – Longer than it Looked

4 Pax finished the week strong and helped YHC round out a 5-pack of B-Day Q’s at Casino Royale. This was a first for YHC to do 5 consecutive Q’s – and added EC to each of them as well. The goal for the year was to hit 200 workouts and this was number 215. I’m hoping to hit 230 by the end of the year. I know this wouldn’t have been possible without so many of my F3 brothers who have pushed me all year long and kept me going – mostly with the possibility of coffee after the workout. I’m thankful for all of you and for helping me get faster, stronger, and even a little better with age. Thanks also for helping YHC celebrate my 45th trip around the sun this week. SYITG soon!

Warm Up:

After a quick review of the F3 mission statement, we moseyed around the parking lot and launched in…

Good Mornings x 10 IC
Daisy Pickers x 10 IC
Windmills x 10 IC
Stretch – Right leg over left / left leg over right
Sir Fazio Arm Circles x 10 fwd IC/ x 10 rev IC
Imperial Walkers x 10 IC
Hillbillies x 10 IC

The Workout:

Mosey to the pavilion for some ladder fun. After each exercise on the way up the ladder, we did a lunge-walk lap around the playground. We realized quickly that it was a lot longer than it looked – especially when lunge-walking. Some modification was necessary but we all got through it. On the way back down the ladder, we audibled and moseyed around the parking lot between exercises.
Turkish Get-ups x 6 (3 each side)
Plank Jacks x 10 IC
Carolina Dry Docks x 15
Step Ups x 20 (10 each leg)
LBC’s x 25 IC

We moseyed toward the shovel flag where YHC spotted a football which was promptly integrated into the workout. We paired up and each pair took turns throwing the ball, backing up one parking spot each for each throw. If the pass was caught, the Pax chose the exercise. Each time the ball was dropped, the penalty was 5 burpees. We had time for about 5 rounds which incorporated plenty of abs so no need for extra Mary.

Mary:

Included in the workout

Bday Q #4 – Fab 5 Frozen Fingers

The F3 Fab 5 formed up this morning in spite of the subfreezing temps (about 28 degrees). 3 Pax returned from a 2 mile EC and joined the 2 others who were eagerly anticipating the forthcoming workout and ready to get the blood pumping in order to combat the cold.

Once we got moving, the cold wasn’t too much of a factor. That is until we each grabbed a rock for part 2 of the workout at which point the fingers began to freeze. Thankfully no digits were lost in the process – at least not that YHC knows of.

Great work this morning men! Let’s do it one more time tomorrow at Casino Royale.  I’ll try to take it a little easy for day 5 of my birthday 5-pack Q (with EC’s) in light of the Frosty CSAUP on Sat.

FNGs: None

Warm Up:

After a quick review of the F3 mission statement (which Martini pretty much nailed), we moseyed around the parking lot and launched into some warmups…

SSH x 20 IC
Daisy Pickers x 10 IC
Frankensteins x 10 IC
Windmills x 10 IC
Sir Fazio Arm Circles x 10 forward/ 10 reverse IC
Seal Claps x 10 IC
Overhead Claps x 10 IC
Imperial Squat Walkers x 10 IC

The Workout:

YHC carried yesterday’s Possum Trot theme into this workout. For Part 1 the first Pax chose a 10 rep exercise after which we ran a lap around the parking lot. Upon return, we repeated the first exercise and the 2nd Pax added another followed by another lap. R&R until all Pax chose an exercise. After 2 complete rounds (10 different exercises), we were ready for part 2.

We needed a change of scenery and a change of pace so we went to the rock pile and chose a medium-sized rock for a similar stacked exercise routine. This time we each chose a rock exercise and John Cusacked around the flagpole after each exercise. And yes, each new exercise was stacked on the one before. We made one change about halfway through and left the rocks behind in favor of a lunge walk because our fingers were freezing. (We started out doing air presses but decided we looked ridiculous and didn’t want to give F3 a bad name with those who were waiting nearby at the bus stop. Lunge walks were a better choice.)

Mary:

Included in the workout. We returned to the flagpole just in time for COT.

Warm Up: SSH, SFAC, Overhead Clap, Michael Phelps, Good Mornings, Squatted Moroccan Night Clubs, IP, & HBs.
The Workout: Straight for the wall of pain. With a rotation of Balls to the Wall and People’s chair. Had to make sure we through in some Australia Ass Smackers for the new guy. To which he responded, “who came up with those.”

Pax were then instructed to get a “respectable” rock with some clear variations on what is respectable means. For rock rotations we focused on TUT (Time Under Tension). Cadence represented 1/2 the move so everyone slowed down and focused on form. Curls for the Girls, Overhead Triceps press, Overhead Press, Rut Rows, Ground Pounders, Chest Press.

We then broke into twos. 1st Pax plank holds while the rock is set on their back. 2nd Pax sprints to the speed bump and back. Rinse and repeat three times.

Let’s Just Get the Math Right

Today marked YHC’s 200th post this year. Apparently, I also posted at Sheepdog for my 100th post earlier this year. See what I did there…I have not been down to Sheepdog for a couple months now and man…that site has changed. A new middle school will be going up and as we drove in Hardy said, “This is a weird time to build a school…will anyone be in it?” I agree. But also, I’m so glad, that I didn’t intend to Q any Thangs on the large field because, well…it ain’t there no more! The pre-blast promised 200 reps of something or some things, plus a fire hose. So, YHC thought I would have a bit of fun initially with this promise. 7 PAX and a pooch for a penchant for making “fragrant” contributions along the way posted at Sheepdog  and put in strong work!

FNG’s: none

Warm Up: SSH IC x30, Good Mornings x10…quick mosey and then Frankenstein’s x10 IC and then the smell of some effervescent Pooch poop, so YHC called 10 burpees and then a move on. Upon the mosey to the next spot, YHC called 10 more burpees and some PAX said, “there’s no way this is the 200…there will be a Mutiny at Sheepdog!” I wanted to string everyone along a bit. Honestly, I’m not sure how you could work 200 burpees into a workout but I’m sure there’s always a way with F3. At this point, Shredder also commented that if YHC called this, during the Mutiny, there would be some close-quarter combat. Coming from Shredder, I really did not want any part of that! finished with 10 ct. IW’s and HB’s.
The Workout: Immediate rush to the benches for 20 irkins, 20 step-ups, and 20 dirkins. YHC then paused before calling the mosey to see if PAX thought perhaps this was the workout. Mosey to the back of the school where PAX came upon a fire hose at the far end of the blacktop. The Thang here was each PAX takes a turn carrying/running/walking/moseying/sprinting with fire hose from one end of the lane to the other. All the while, other PAX were completing an OYO running set of 200 merkins, 200 squats, and 200 dips. We got through about 4 rounds for all PAX on the fire hose before YHC called a “circle-up”. In F3…we pick up the 6…always. YHC asked the PAX how many of each exercise they may have had left. We went with whomever had the highest number and then the entire group would bang out the rest of the reps to complete that set. We did this for the merkins, dips, and squats. During this time, it was difficult to pick up the math to finish reps…16-Bit was bent on getting the math right! Who does what…who does how many, etc.
Mary: When YHC asked if there were any combatives today, the experienced site Q’s replied that they had done enough. So on to Mary. 50 LBC’s IC, 25 WW1’s, 13 H2M, 12 Pickle Pounders. Have a nice day!
Announcements: HS Half Nov. 14th. Holly Springs PD has their Angel Tree up and ready. Martini is a point of contact for this. Sheepdog and the Nest will serve as drop off sites for these items. Dovetail garage sale on Nov. 14th…all serious offers will be accepted! He moves and needs help on Nov. 15th. Breach will bring the TEDTalk on Nov. 17th.
T-Claps (Recognition): Martini completed a half on birthday number 40…did it in almost 10 less minutes than his goal. Great work brother!
Prayer: Dovetail’s move, Noah’s Ark and Lipsync, 187 and his M, YHC and his M, dealing with some recent, recurring, and worsening health issues. Shredder took us out.

A Few of my Favorite Things

6 for EC! Probably some kind of Sheepdog Record. Shredder, Sparky, Dovetail, Fumunga, Martini, and Quiver for 2 miles.

Warm Up:

  • Body circles
  • Indian run: Jog/high knees/butt kickers/karaoke
  • Samson stretch
  • Lunge pulse
  • Inch worm, jump legs forward, then back pedal to start

The Workout:

Bikes, books, guns, keyboards

After each “favorite thing,” sprint from one end of the lot to the last median, then a jog once around the lot.

AK-47s

Start laying down, do 10 hollow body rocks (start on back, roll to your front, always keeping head, arms, and legs of the ground, like rolling in the mud), push to plank on the last, then “check the action” with a 10-count of shoulder taps, then “fire”with 10 jumps (legs forward into crouch, hands don’t move). Made mention that an AK mag holds 20 to 30 rounds, so they can be greatful they only had to fire 10.

Alternatively, do reps of 3, and rinse and repeat for as many Pax as there are (use a multiplier if there’s 3 or less)

Clickety-Clack (building custom keyboards)

Start at one median, go to the next.

Fancy feet for a Pax-count of 10, then smash the enter key with a frog jump. Continue through each pax.

Downhill MTB (Bikes)

Freddy Mercury, starting slow and speeding up, then pop up and do 6 box jumps burpees

Books (C.S. Lewis, LOTR)

Orc squats: deep squat, hands on the ground, clean and jerk, landing with hands overhead, in a deeper squat). 20 reps.

Lewis – Mere Christianity – dynamic tension: front, side, down, up. Go through twice, recover for 20 sec, then twice more.

Combatives:

45° defense. Start with hands up in disarming position. Block punch by stepping close at a 45° angle. Don’t want to be too far away from attacker. As you step, punch to floating ribs, then follow with an elbow to the GB20 pressure point.

Mary:

Round robin. Homer to Marge, low slow flutter, crab cakes, Freddy Mercury, LBCs, boat canoes
