We had a name but can’t remember it…

There was a name for this BB that was discussed during the workout but it has escaped.

YHC, despite Carpex resistance to start a new Kettlebell style AO on a SUNDAY in Cary, decided to come down where he first had his vigin Q many months ago to brush up on his Kettlebell tactics.  Not to mention YHC had not Q’d since early February when he relocated to Cary.  Always a pleasure to see all the South Wake PAX but due to YHC’s limited availability a good beat down with more running than usual was planned.

Final Four Partner Pain

PAX: BlueHen, SlideRule*, PeakWeek, M4L, Particle Board, Cowboy*, Warbucks*, 187, AxE, DaBusiness

As the Q rolled up in the swamp donkey with PeakWeek for week 2 of TigerBlood it was great to see the PAX getting in some EC running toward the school. Little did they know this would be a run heavy workout today with a final four spin.

It was great to see some new faces out to TigerBlood for the first time.  A quick welcome and the group was off….

Warm Up:

Run down the street leading to the track for warm-ups in the parking lot.

  • Daniel-Son (request from 187) – IC HiYA X 4
  • Little Baby SSH IC X 14
  • Slow Good Mornings IC X 4
  • Windmill  IC X 4
  • Merkins hold on the down X 4

The Workout:

To get things started the PAX partnered up and headed over to the opening for the track.  With a partner the PAX got in 4 hot laps around the track completing a mile.  Each lap should get quicker staying with your accountability partner.  The PAX held the plank hold until all groups finished.

The PAX started the Indian Run over to the large soccer field behind the middle school for a couple of rounds of 4 Corners. Here is how it went down…

Round 1 1st Corner: 14 merkins, 2nd  Corner: 14 one arm out merkins  3rd Corner: hand release merkins X 14 4th Corner: merkin claps X 14.  Partners did the wheelbarrow, switching as needed,  between the 1st and 2nd corner and 3rd and 4th corner. All PAX held the squat hold at each corner to complete the merkins together.  Partners did the Partner Carry, switching as needed, between the 2nd and 3rd corner and 4th and 1st corner.

Round 2 –  1st Corner: 14  IC Low Slow Flutter, 2nd Corner: 14 IC American Hammer, 3rd Corner: 14 plank jacks, 4th corner: Crab Humpers X 14.  Partners did bunny hops with arms locks (took one from Moby’s playbook) between the 1st and 2nd corner and 3rd and 4th corner. All PAX held the squat hold at each corner to complete the ab exercises together.  Partners sprinted  between the 2nd and 3rd corner and 4th and 1st corner.

With all PAX almost gassed everyone made their way over towards the retaining wall on the far parking lot of the elementary school.  SlideRule may have thought it was time to get the knees bloody, but that wasn’t the case.  The Pax were instructed to hold the plank on the curb moving towards the front of the lot in and Indian Plank Slide.  Two rounds and the PAX were off to finish things up and return to the parking lot, however a quick detour to get in Tiger print hops first.

Mary:

  • Round on Guantanamo
  • 4 inch leg hold X 14, 14 inch leg hold X 14, 4 inch leg hold X 14, and 14 inch leg hold X 14
  • Homer to Marge IC X 14
  • Boat Canoe IC X 14

It is always fun leading the group.  Everyone really got after it today, I believe we came in just short of 3 miles for the workout – Great Work!

PAX:

187, Buford, Chips, Dahmer, Dawgpound, Deadbolt, Dumbo, Emeril, FNG “Dumbell”, FNG “Sparty”, Full house, Lipstick, Maybelline, Midget, Mookie, Nemo, Particle Board, Pikachu, Sandlot, ShamWow!, UTI, Warbucks, Yogurt

23 STRONG showed up for what looks like it might be the coldest morning we’ll have in April.  Pre Blast conjured up 9 HC’s to which all 9 were present and accounted for – Dahmer and Dumbo with FNGs in tow.  7 made it out for the EC including FNG “Sparty” while UTI ran from home to Purple Cobra for his own EC.  Day 2 of Virgin Q week and everyone stepped it up with attendance beating out yesterday’s impressive showing at Downtown Train.  Lots of sounds and smells permeating from this group of PAX on this cold morning, but we didn’t lose anyone to the HT John today –   Lipstick did find a new porta John behind HT for future consideration though.  YHC was proud to lead today – thank you to everyone for support, encouragement, camaraderie that I have experienced since joining F3.  (187 – special thanks for introducing me to F3).

EC:

Chips, Dahmer, FNG “Sparty”, Maybelline, Pikachu, ShamWow! & Warbucks.

Warm Up:

Started with a warm-up run around the Harris Teeter building and circled up near the gas station.  Per Dawgpounds Downtown Train request the day earlier we started off with 5 burpees OYO.  Those were followed by Hairy Rockettes (10), Daisy Pickers (12), Imperial Walkers (10), & Hillbillies (10) all in cadence.
The Workout:

We moseyed over to the Goodwill store parking lot where everyone partnered up.  Partner 1 remained at Goodwill and performed People’s Chair while Partner 2 ran around Goodwill toward Planet Fitness and the sidewalk heading back towards Sunset Lake Rd – once on the sidewalk the Pax was greeted with sidewalk chalk instructions to Bear crawl up the sidewalk until they reached the next instruction to start running again making a full loop around and back to Partner 1 they switched places. This was repeated for 4 exercises: People’s Chair, Merkins, Monkey Humpers & Mountain Climbers.  Those that finished early did plank hold to wait for the six. Starting to get close on time we moseyed back over to parking area near gas station and circled up for Mary.
Mary:

LBCs (15), Low Slow Flutter (15), American Hammers(15)

Buck Furpees

21 STRONG showed up to Downtown Train (which I believe is a record) for YHC’s VQ.  Mumble chatter was on point. Thanks for coming out. I’m glad I found F3 and it was a pleasure to lead today. The accountability, encouragement, along with the admiration of fellow PAX, certainly inspires me to try everyday to be a better version of myself.

EC: Blue Hen, Coal Ash, Da Business, Dawgpound, Dumbo, Emeril, M4L, Maybelline, Nemo, Pablo, Particle Board, Slide Rule, Yogurt

It was a chilly spring morning, but we got warmed up pretty quick.

Warm Up: Standard Downtown Train lap to start.  Circled up, 5 burpees (oyo) to start things off followed by daisy pickers, windmills, some tricep stretches, Michael Phelps, fazio arm circles (forward and backward), and air presses.

The Workout: Moseyed over to the parking lot in the back of the library for the workout. YHC had two goodie bags, one with 10 standard exercises, the other with 10 variations of burpees. Pax partnered up. YHC pulled one standard exercise from the bag 1 and a burpee variation from bag 2. One partner completed as many reps of the exercise pulled from bag 1, while partner sprinted to the opposite end of parking lot, completed reps of whatever burpee variation was pulled from the bag, and then sprinted back. Partners then switched to complete the other exercise. As each group finished they held plank for the 6. Once everyone was in, YHC reached in the goodie bags for two more exercies. Repeated this until it was time to head back for Mary. Lined up for a short indian run back to the starting point and Mary.

Exercises and burpee variations included…

Plank jacks, plank jack burpess (5), star jumps, star jump burpees (5), split leg jump squats, altrenating leg burpees (5), monkey humpers, twist (180) burpees (10), hand release merkins, lateral burpees (6), Jack Webs (5 merkins, 15 airpress), traveling or leap frog burpees (5), Plank shoulder taps, tuck jump burpees (5), squat jumps, mountain climber burpees (5 burpees with 10 mountain climbers each round).

Mary: LBCs in cadence
Announcements: This Saturday, 9 am, Southwake Dad workout, couple of upcoming tri workouts (talk with Yogurt), be on the lookout for Slack/Facebook posts from Pickachu.
Prayer: Nemo volunteered to take us out. Crab Legs (that he is selected for trial drug therapy), Forceps’ friend who is recovering, any Pax out there injured or sick in our thoughts for a quick recovery.

Squirkins While You Wait!

EC: Dawgpound, Dumbo, LED, M4L

4 PAX showed up for EC this morning and the first leg of the Fritter. Good mumble chatter on the EC jog with LED and M4L circling back for the more “deliberate” runners – Dawgpound and Dumbo. 19 PAX showed up for the Main Event to get stronger today and discuss #f3MentalHealth.

Male Depression is a serious issue and I was glad to see the nation and the PAX take it seriously. YHC shared some stats and warning signs regarding depression and then several PAX shared how depression has touched their lives. I don’t think anyone left this morning without an increased awareness of this issue. We must be diligent in reaching out to our fellow F3 brothers and making sure we are all healthy – physically, mentally and emotionally. We must also go back into the community and be that same rock that someone needs. Take a minute and think about someone you know who might need a friend or someone to listen – you could be the difference!

Proverbs 17:17 – A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.

Warm Up: Aquaman – SSH x30, Daisy Pickers x10 (Banana Seat is the only one who did it right), Fazzio Arm Circles x10 (front and back), Seal Claps x10, Burpee x5 OYO.

The Workout:
PAX paired up for the day. With your partner, run opposite directions around the tennis courts and do 5 Bropees (do an epic high-five with your partner on the jump of a Burpee) when you meet up. Bropees decreased until we got to 1 and made 3 laps. When finished, PAX waited under the light doing Squirkins (wheel barrow hold with one PAX doing Derkins then the other doing Squats using the first PAX legs as weight).

With all the PAX back together its time for a traditional Dora (100 Merkins, 200 LBCs and 300 Squats). One PAX does the exercise while the other runs to the entrance to the concession stand and back. As the pairs finished they were instructed to go to the center of the tennis courts and again do Squirkins while they waited on the 6.

The remainder of our time together was spent on the tennis courts. First the PAX had a Princess Tea Party (Patty Cake Merkins followed by People’s Chair using your partner as support). The first round consisted of 20 reps of each exercise followed by a sprint to the end of the tennis court and back. With all of the PAX remaining close together YHC decided we needed another round of 10 followed by an additional sprint. By this time we were really having a good time with our partner and learning some new exercises so YHC decided to wrap up with another instant classic, Lt. Get Ups (2 steps in a lunge walk followed by a Prisoner Get Up – think absolution but using your knees and not your elbows). We went from the middle of the tennis court to the end doing Lt. Get Ups and then bear crawled back to the center for Mary.

Mary: Aquaman – Low Slow Flutter x20, Box Cutter x20, Homer2Marge x20 then R leg x10 and L leg x10.

Announcements: Check social media

Prayer: Those traveling, those dealing with health issues and those dealing with mental health issues.

As we finished our extended COT and were leaving, Messi waited by the entrance to the tennis court to give every PAX leaving a fist bump. I don’t know about anyone else but that was just the thing I needed to put my day into high gear. Keep being that light in the world Messi – we need more of that!

It was an honor to lead you boys and I’ll try to do better next time. Thanks to my co-Q, Aquaman for taking warm up and Mary.

Life Comes at you Fast

Cold, rainy, windy, what else can you expect at Tea Time. Regardless 3 pax posted, all three on a double down too.

Prayer: Slow down. Life is fast. Enjoy some of it.

March Madness at Possum Trot

Warm Up:  Twenty-six PAX came out on the first day of spring (low 40’s) fired up to take part in March Madness – Possum Trot style.  Inspired by Blue Hen from an earlier Q at Downtown Train, Dauber asked PAX to show up in their college team gear giving support to their favorite team.  Only four PAX brought their spirit representing UNC, Duke, Penn State and NC State by showing up in their gear.  There must have been a lot of dirty laundry or simple forgetfulness.  Not deterred, Q started the beat down on time with a jog around the tennis courts and then circling up for the following exercises:  32 SSH, 10 Good AM, 10 Vegetation Grabbers, 10 Hill Billies and 10 Imperial Walkers.  Q added some static arm stretches (L/R) across and behind the back for good measure.  PAX then headed to the Snack Shack.

The Workout:  PAX lined up against the outfield fence.  Jack Webbs were executed starting with one merkin and three air presses from our knees.  The count escalated until PAX reached 10 merkins and 30 air presses.  Who knew pushing air could be so hard?  Mosey to the Snack shack for 16 sec cadence count of seated chair followed by 16 sec cadence count of BTTW.  Rinse and repeat.  Mosey to the road and lined up in a single file.  PAX performed and kept a plank position or something similar to a plank while the last PAX member in line bear crawled to the front of the line.  PAX members each took a turn bear crawling until every PAX made it to the front.  Q called an audible only making it halfway up the road and had each PAX mosey to the rock pile for a medium-sized rock.  Lots of grumbling and mumble-chatter and in all honestly, Q was struggling during this “extended” exercise.  (If you cant do it, don’t Q it.). PAX circled up with rock in hand for the first set of the following exercises with rock:  16 goblet squats, 16 curls, 16 overhead presses and 16 tricep curls.  PAX side shuffled the distance of the parking lot swapping lead foot at the halfway point until they reached the large hill.  Q called a bear-crawl and then 8 dips OYO on the guradrail.  Reverse bearcrawl and jog back to the rocks.  The second set with the rocks included 16 rut-rows, 16 wonder bras, 16 overhead squats and 16 one hand on rock merkins (8L, 8R). An astute Skidmark corrected Q when he inadvertently called one-handed merkins.  Side shuffle back to the hill with more bearcrawls up the hills, 8 dips on guardrail OYO and jog back.  Q queried PAX about significance of the day (first day of Spring, officially starting at 5:58PM, etc.) and threw in 5 burpees OYO before starting next set.  Called out four PAX who had their collegiate school gear on asking them to call the next set of exercises:  Cupid called crableg grab (apologies for forgetting name); Banana Seat called for Turkish get-ups on each side and Skidmark called for the iconic Bobby Hurleys.  Dauber was too busy looking at his watch trying to grab another set in before Mary to complete the four bracket challenge and sent the PAX shuffling to the hill.  More bear crawl up and down with dips on the guardrail OYO.  Unfortunately, Dauber did not manage the clock properly and asked PAX to form up on the tennis courts for Mary after returning their rocks back to the rock pile.

Mary:  PAX held BTTW until the six.  Mary was brief with the following 10 count core exercises:  Homer to Marge, Box cutters, Freddie Mercury and American Hammers.

Announcements:  Q school Thursday at Womble, Yard clean-up Sunday at Crab Legs, Police/Firefighter hockey game, Check Announcements on FB/Slack

Highlight on the 6:  Something new for this BB.  I wanted to find out more about a PAX member.  This week’s focus is on Maybelline, Todd Pasnak.  Studied at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), big Syracuse fan, Married to a second grade school teacher, blessed with two boys age 15 & 12 and a daughter who is 4.  Works as a project manager at Cody in Sanford.  Got his F3 name because he was responsible for the Covergirl account.

Thank for the opportunity to lead you men.  -Dauber

The Ferns Aren’t Up Either

EC kicked off at 5:15 with Piakchu and Skidmark going out on a little tour de’ Holly Springs. Not much happening in the Springs early but we did discover a missing sidewalk along Holly Springs Road. After a quick 4 miles we circled back to pick up the lads at Starbucks.

The goal today was to do some scouting for another route for U-Turn, something to change it up, add a little spice if you will. Maybelline, Warbucks, UTI, Sliderule, Pikachu, and Skidmark set off one direction while the other 10 Pax took to the standard 5 mile loop. I’m sure there was quite the conversation amongst those Pax.

The six of us set off Indian Run style. This lasted approximately .01 miles before we made a wrong turn  leaving starbucks and circled the bank. The security footage by the ATM will make for a good BB photo I’m sure. After regaining our bearings we set-off. At the bottom the hill played a quick game of right-left-center and we were off.

I think we have a new U-Turn 5 mile loop that involves no crossing of 55. Highlights from the run include how Skidmark has the worst ideas. Indian run = fail. And apparently doing a Steeple Chase is a bad idea but a Rugged Maniac is a good idea.

As we closed out the route we made a trip past both Orange Theory and O2 fitness. No balls to the wall at O2 since no one was there. We thought the ferns had talked everyone’s ears off but the sign on the door indicated that O2 does not open until 0800 on Saturday. Guess Lisa and the ferns need their beauty sleep.

Warm Up: Good mornings, high knees, butt kickers, SSH, IW
The Workout: 5 mile loop for some.

Scout run: Left below Dicks. Left at the next traffic light. Stay straight until Ivy Arbor Way. Turn left onto Ivy Arbor Way. Follow Ivy Arbor into 12 Oaks. Run about 1/2 mile turn left and then a quick right. Do a little jig right there. Follow until the end of the road and make a left. Run up the hill to the traffic circle and make a left on Green Oaks. We ran Green Oaks to Thomas Mill and then the group split. Some ran up Thomas Mill and some ran all the way Irving by the Credit Union. Met back up to compare distances at Thomas Mill and Irving. Ran down past Starbucks to O2 and turned around. Ended up with 6 miles. The new projected route will be good route with sidewalks the whole way and light traffic. No crossing 55. Will need maybe 1 more scout run laster this week or next saturday.

Mary: She wasn’t at 02 either
Announcements: Next saturday yard work at Crablegs. More details this week. Crablegs putting together a team for ALS walk. More details to follow.
Prayer: Crablegs, Shredder, Runners tomorrow at Tobacco Road 1/2  and full

Disney’s very own has the Q

Did you know that Dumbo was Walt Disney’s favorite movie he made?  Seems like a fitting place for YHC’s virgin Q.  Thanks for the opportunity to lead you 31 Pax.

EC: Aquaman, Bulls Eye, Dahmer, Dawgpound, Maybelline, Nemo, Pikachu, ShamWow!, Warbucks

Warm Up: Quick mosey through the half pipe and back to the parking lot.  PAX circled up for the following: 24 SSH IC, 12 Good Mornings IC, 10 Fozio Arm Circles IC (forwards and backwards), Michael Phelps OYO, 10 Burpees OYO

The Workout: Mosey over to the big parking lot at the high school for 4 Corners with an accountability partner.  Pax did the following at each corner: 5 burpees, 10 plank jacks & 20 WWII.  Round 1 we moved between corners jogging on the long side and sprinting on the ‘short’ side.  For round 2 we replaced the 20 WWII with Al Gore for a 20 count.

Having finished round 2 it was time for a change of scenery so we moseyed back to the soccer fields.  With your accountability partner, one PAX runs to the middle of the soccer field while the other does balls to the wall on the fence.  We did two rounds of this.

Mary: PAX did 15 diamond merkins while YHC retrieved his phone for COT.  We then did the following: 20 Low Slow Flutter, 20 Homer to Marge, 20 Pickle Pounder, 10 Homer to Marge, 10 Pickle Pounders and Have A Nice Day!

Announcements: Check Slack/Facebook.  F3 Dad’s Camp registration opens soon.

Prayer: Moby’s father, Double D and his family.

YHC finished the morning with a few words about Lent.  During this time in the church year we are striving to either remove the things that keep us from being close to God OR to take on new things that would bring us closer to God.  That corresponds with this week QSource topic (The Jester) as well.  We all have things that keep us from being as close to God as we could be.  I challenge all of us to spend some time thinking about what they are for you and committing to work on them.  YHC took us out.

Thanks again for the opportunity to lead you men.  I will do better next time!
