Take me out to the ball game

This morning YHC promised some fun at the workout while everyone was gathering around.  Not “fun” fun but actual fun.  I hope I delivered on that.

FNGs: Not today

EC: Norm

Warm Up:

Lap around the tennis courts and then circle up in the parking lot for:

SSH x20 IC

Frankenstein x10 IC

Butt Kickers x10 IC

Windmills x10 IC

Daisy Pickers x10 IC

Imperial Walkers x10 IC

Merkins x10

The Workout:

A quick swing past my car to grab a ball and bat and we ran down to the concession stand to rip off some quick sets at the short wall.  We did 10 stepups with each leg (20 in all), and then 10x irkins, dips, and dirkins.

Afterwards we headed down to the softball field and met at home plate.  PAX counted off to establish batting order and instructions were given.  Each one would get up to bat and hit the ball.  We would all run to the ball and the batter would call out a 10 count of an excercise of their chosing.  If the ball did not make it past the pitcher’s mound before hitting the ground there would be 2 penalty burpees and a strike out would result in 5 burpees.  Luckily no one struck out and there were only two instances of the ball not making it in the air past the mount.  Lots of different exercises were called out and I can’t remember them all but there were burpees (there always has to be that one guy), star jumps, bobby hurleys, LBCs, big boy situps, monkey humpers, and a lot more.  I think in all we made it through 16 batters.

After the first time through the line up we “ran the bases”.  Bear crawls were done from home to 1st base, crawl bears from 1st to 2nd, crab walks from 2nd to 3rd, and duck walks from 3rd to home.  Afterwards we started back at the top of the lineup.

Once we started to run out of time we gathered on the drive way for a slow Indian run up to the tennis courts to circle up for…

Mary:

YHC called out an exercise that he learned while perusing the exicon one night called the Dr. W.  It’s an 8 count exercise.  I’ll let the exicon describe it:

“Dr. W is a sufferable 8-count ab exercise that combines Dolly, Rosalita, and the W; often within the 6MOM. Always a #CrowdPleaser. 1 is legs apart like a Low Dolly, 2 is legs together, 3 is raise the legs to Rosalita position (45-60 degrees-ish), 4 is spread ‘em, 5 is The W (hands together and stretching forward between your legs), 6 is the return to your back (legs still up), 7 is legs together, 8 is legs down. 5-8 Dr. W’s is a good start to get the pax coordinated with the counting. 10 is a magic # that most build up to 15 is just dumb and torture #FetalPositionMaker Qtip – We always emphasize that the W is on the 5 count. Kinda breaks down the motions and gives a 2nd starting point.”

We did 10 of those.  I like them, they’re fun.  After that it was 10x American Hammers and then HAND.

Announcements:

EC:  ShamWow, Katniss

It started out as a normal day.  I passed ShamWow as I drove in late for EC and he politely turned around to accommodate my lack of discipline.  We traveled the familiar route with some mumblechatter along the way.  At about the first mile along holly springs road, we abruptly parted from our path like the red sea did before Noah.  There was something in the road that caught both our attentions.  I can only describe it as a cylindrical object about 8 inches in length, purple-ish, and appeared to be made of silicone rubber.  Neither of us had any interest in positively identifying the object as we never broke stride as we abruptly (key word) parted from our path and continued on our way.

FNGs: Not today
Warm Up: 25 SSH, 15 Hillbillies, 15 Imperial Walkers, 10X Fazio Arm Circles FW & REV, 15X Overhead Claps, 15 X Seal Claps, 25 SSH
The Workout:

With a full week of rain, it was hard finding motivation to get back in the gloom.  I’m glad the Q sheet was open for Cletus forcing me to endure another workout in the rain.  It brought thoughts of discomfort and made me ponder why we seek comfort and shun discomfort.   It brought spiritual reflection.  My take away – I have never grown or gained anything by being comfortable.  We grow and gain from discomfort and hard work (discomfort).  Comfort is a time for praise and recovery so that we may go do uncomfortable things!  And balancing them is the trick.  I think everyone can find examples of this in their life by asking the question – What made you who you are?  I imagine there are some uncomfortable memories balanced with times of great joy.  As we get older it is much easier to accept the normal and seek what we have found to provide us comfort.  An F3 workout is a great 45 minute (only) discomfort embrace that provides the correct perspective for the rest of the day whether it brings us challenges or rewards.  We shall conquer the day and be thankful that mostly we have 1st world problems.  This message was less succinctly delivered during Thing 2 which brought a lot of discomfort.

Trying to avoid the downpours so headed to the shelter.  Divided into two groups.

It’s the return…

Dauber asked on Sunday if I could fill in for him at Red October on Monday because he was under the weather.  Not having Q’d a kettle bell workout before I promptly went and scoured Crazy Ivan back blasts in order to come up with a workout.  20 minutes later I had a winkie created and was ready to roll for the morning.  Pre-blast went out and then I noticed that Mutiny was doing ultimate frisbee in the morning, which we usually converge one.  Confirmation from Dauber meant my time creating the workout was for not.  Or was it?  I was already signed up to Q Possum Trot so maybe I could make it work on Wednesday morning, using rocks instead of kettle bells.

Arriving at the park, still unsure what I was going to do, I made up my mind to scrap the original plan and come up with something else.  I’ve tried using a rock in place of a bell before and it just isn’t the same.  Trying to do kettle bell swings while not throwing the rock in someone else’s face is a work out all in itself.  Alas, at least I have a workout pre-built for when I eventually Q Red October (no, Dauber, this is not me signing up for anything).

FNGs: Not today
Warm Up:

Quick lap around the tennis courts.  As we made our way towards the entrance a car was pulling in.  Audible groans and complaints of burpess arose from the HIM in attendance but ulitmately it was someone who was lost or had other business to attend to in their car because they turned around and left a minute or two later.

Circled up for the following:

SSH x20 IC

Windmills x10 IC

Sprinklers x10 IC

Sir Fazio Arm Circles x20 IC (10 forward, 10 reverse)

The Workout:

We made our way to the rock pile and then moseyed to the big hill.  YHC remembered his VQ where we did 11s with rocks and figured that could work here.  We started with 10 Turkish get-ups with the rocks at the bottom, then carry your rock up the hill, put it in your lap and do 1 tricep dip.  Run back down and you know the rest.  PAX were silent, which usually means they’re working hard, which is good.

Afterwards we divided in two two groups.  The first group did 20 Curls for the Girls IC while the other group did American Hammers with their rocks.  When the first group finished we traded places.  After one set we returned our rocks and made our way to the wall inside the tennis courts.

YHC had PAX group up near one end of the wall.  The task was simple, PAX would hold BTTW at about a 45 degree angle while one PAX bear crawled underneath.  When he reached the end he got up in BTTW and the next dude went. We got through two cycles of this before running out of wall.  I had the idea to do wall sits on the way back but everyone was pretty convinced that there was no way we were fitting under each other, which was probably a good call.  I audibled to broad jumps over planking PAX back down the wall.  This seemed to work for everyone but Sprinkler who took exception to the apparent downward dog that Modify was doing.  Kicks to the ribs were expected in retaliation to the calling out but Modify is a good dude and inflicted no bodily harm.

Mary:

We circled up for the following:

WWII x15 IC

Homer to Marge x15 IC

Pickle Pounders x15 IC

Sleeping Hillbillies x10 IC (each side)
