Timing Is Everything..

This morning’s edition of Any Given Sunday was a bit different. YHC sent a pre-blast the night before indicating a Ruck was in play as well as running for those wanting to get some miles in. Have you ever had one of those mornings where things just fall into place even though you weren’t expecting them to go 100% right?

It was definitely one of those mornings. Started out with a 5am alarm. Gear at the side of the bed was picked up and carried to the bathroom.  Headed downstairs, but upon arrival to the kitchen, noticed that I was missing socks. Not to worry, there was a pile of clean whites in a laundry basket right at my feet. Problem solved. Exited the garage 20min until go time and got halfway out of Wescott past 187 and Dumbo’s house before realizing I forgot my shovel flag.. Turn around, grab flag and head to Womble.

8 PAX waiting on the curb, 6 with ruck sacks-2 without. Five minutes til 6am. Just enough time to plant the flag and exchange pleasantries before the warm up. With one minute to spare, our 9 count, including YHC, turned into a 10 count with Redenbacher rolling up on the scene for some running miles. Six o’clock hit and inquired with the PAX on who would be running and who would be rucking. Three for running and 7 for the ruck.

Advised PAX to drop their gear for the warm up that went a little like this.

Warm Up: Light mosey to the far end of the lot, lunge walks and Frankensteins back. Circled up for Imperial Walkers X10, Hillbillies X10, Fazio Arm Circles X10F\10B, Good Mornings X10, Mountain Climbers X20, Toe and Heel walks to the middle of the lot with a Squat hold as I explained this morning’s routes.

For The DawgPound, Cowboy, and Redenbacher, they would be running the standard Bass Lake route with a counterclockwise path around the lake and back. For those rucking, YHC would lead PAX up to Sugg with mixed exercises along the way before heading back for COT. The finish time was set for 7am, figuring with the 5mi and change run and 2.5 mi ruck\exercises, we should hit it just right and all regroup at the same time.

The Workout: 3 PAX went on their way to the Bass Lake running route, while remaining 7 grabbed their gear and made their way out of Womble. Along the baseball fields YHC called for PAX to stop at the railings on the running path and get an overhand grab of the bar from underneath to perform upright rows. Dauber, who’s pack was a bit full squeezed himself under the bar and gave me a look as if to say, “You d*@k”.  Upright rows X15 were performed in cadence and PAX continued to mosey onto Grigsby. Great mumble chatter along the way, particularly the topics of bacon, how ‘responsible’ Dauber was as a lad, prank phone calls, and how grain alcohol and gatorade is not such a good idea.

Arrived at the Sugg Farm gates and eventually into the event field at the far end. YHC noticed some picnic tables to the left of the field and called for some step ups X20 and Erkins X30. As the sun was just peeking through the tree line, YHC wanted a better view and ironically saw some more picnic tables perfectly placed in the middle of the field. Called for another set of Step Ups X20 and Diamond Erkins… “Are those really a thing?” To which I replied, “If they aren’t, they are now.” Diamond Erkins X30 with conviction were performed. PAX then circled up around the flag pole for a set of Prison Squats X20 and a set of Merkins X20. Rucked back to the first set of picnic tables for one more exercise…. Derkins X 30 on YHC’s down. The count dropped after 26, but I’m sure the remaining 4 were executed by all PAX physically or in spirit.

Mosey’d back to the road on our way back to Womble. As we passed the first set of porta potty’s, PAX witnessed irony at its best as a trotting Lipstick came toward us. This kid does not stop. On a bike yesterday for 30 miles, and now on his way fresh off a porta potty 100 yards in front of us. On his way by, he gave PAX the heads up that they may want to use these facilities next to us and not the one in front of us. Thanks, Lipstick..Way to be!

As we reached the baseball fields, YHC looked down at the Garmin and noticed 9min til 7 and 2.25 mi. Timing was perfect as we arrived to the parking lot right at 7am and 2.5 mi on the nose. Splits on Strava even later revealed an even 18:00 for miles 1 and 2. Turned around and found The DawgPound, Cowboy, and Redenbacher back from their run at the exact same time.

Timing is everything..

Prayer: Moment of silence for War Child. Prayers for those struggling with addiction. Additional prayers for marriages and those facing marital challenges. Prayers for healing those who are impacted by health issues. YHC took us out.

Veterans Park Murph

Veterans park was a nice quiet location for Pax of 3 Murph workout.  Only one child harassed us, telling Pikachu that he needed a shower.  Her parents didn’t see to mind her expressing her opinion at all :).  This spot is much better than the crowded Womble playground at this time of night though and there seems to be a lot of 1 mile and EC run options

EC:  Pikachu and Forceps put some miles in.

Warm Up:  Run 1 mile

The Workout:  100 pull-ups, 200 merkins, 300 squats

Mary: Run 1 Mile

Announcements:  See Facebook / Slack

Prayer:  Gratitude, Forceps sister

2 Years Strong

First, it was Memorial Day and we made sure to acknowledge before we started the workout.  Important to focus on what the day really means.

It was my 2 year anniversary so I took the Q at Paradise City, one of the most influential AOs for me during my F3 time.  I have since started Downtown Train as an alternative for Monday mornings but PC will always be near and dear to my heart.  So, we did a convergence.  We had several for EC including a group of  doing a run from Womble as EC then a return run to Womble for the Murph, thus creating their own CSAUP.  Kudos to UTI, Lipstick and Aquaman.  Don’t recall who we had for EC exactly.  Think there were 5 of us, but what I do remember is, in rare form, all of us stuck together the entire 2 miles, and that was cool.  One thing I really love about F3, every workout is a bit different and it is all driven by the guys you post with.  We have so many great characters and the mix we had today was really a strong reflection for me of my time in F3.  Thanks to all who came out top post.

FNGs: None
Warm Up: On the jog to bottom of ramp for SSH (a Nemo favorite) and extended count Good Mornings.  On the jog to top of ramp for SSH and Goofballs.  On the jog around to back corner for Sir Fazio.  On the jog down to end of guard rail to stretch the arms.
The Workout: On the guard rail we did a rapid set of tempo dips ICx10 followed by Mt Climbers ICx10.  3 sets.  Sweat was already in play thanks to the muggy air.  On the jog to the rocks each man picked a rock, and a couple picked a wasp nest, then we headed over to the tunnel with half lined up on each side.  Did a few rounds of exercises with one group on the exercise in tunnel and the other on the run to end of path and back.  Had to wait to switch until all were back and in People’s Chair.  Started with curls for the girls, then ground pounders.   2 sets of each.  Might have been more, I don’t recall.  Ended with some BTTW with a long count down the line.  Stench was building so we returned the rocks and headed back to bball courts.
Mary: A couple quick sets keeping the legs up for LBC, 6″, Low Slow Flutter, American Hammer and a Pickle Pounder to close it out.
Announcements: See Slack
T-Claps (Recognition): Abe for putting in total effort with BreathTaker.  This guy has been an inspiration for me from his first post.
Prayer: YHC shared 2 things I hope all of you will think about.  1. If any of you think you are not making a difference in someone’s life – if you have ever posted with me, 1st, 2nd or 3rd F, if we have posted together only 1x, or if we have been out in the cold weeks on end pushing each other – know that you are making a difference for me.  And 2. something that F3 has done for me – just like the rest of you I carry a lot of stuff around with me, some of it I share, some I don’t because I might just not be ready, but what F3 has done for me is it has made me stronger in identifying and more patiently dealing with my “stuff’ and maybe that’s because I know that at any time I need it, one of you will have my back, and that has been a difference maker.  YHC took us out in prayer with respect to those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

Memorial Day Murph

What more needs to be said…. +35 men turned up for a Memorial Day Murph to honor and remember all thoose who have fallen whilst in the Armed Services…..

Prays encompassed some respectful silence….

Thank You Men, it was my true honor to lead such a special AO.

(Some left before namarama, video attached, apologies if I got some names wrong (early and all that for me))

Tired of Babysitting

Wait…This isn’t Soul Crusher?

Here we are again…another Sunday in the “Springs.”  This time, however, it’s not raining and the air feels like a stale fart as the humidity is starting to settle in. There is a slight breeze, but somehow its inevitable that this would be a shirt soaker of a run this morning at AGS. After a week long hiatus from the gloom due to travel, YHC was looking forward to some miles and fellowship this morning. Pulled into the lot, planted the flag and performed some light stretches. First car rolls in and its one YHC has never seen before. Introduce myself and meet Coal Miner’s Daughter (aka-CMD), who was recently named during Friday’s Slide Rule Cletus Workout. He had mentioned that he was still a little sore from the Cletus workout and was looking for about 3 miles this morning and not the full 6. At AGS, we always make route accommodations, but once additional HIM start to show, there is no telling what inspiration can be drawn and mental\physical limits exceeded.

5:52..Now this was right about the time where things became interesting. First, Emeril rolls in, then followed by Pikachu. Full House and then Forceps. Emeril in an ‘on the fence’ kinda tone indicates that M4L will be here this morning, but was running late as he needed to ‘chit,’ so we should proceed with warmups and then he ‘should’ be here before we leave the lot for the Main Event.

6:00am- Let’s go, follow me….

Warm Up: Quick dash to the first picnic shelter with a plank hold for the six. YHC called out Mountain Climbers IC X10. Proceeded with a brisk mosey to the back lot with Carioca L over R, Right over L to the speed bump, with alternating butt kickers and light mosey to the back end of the lot. Circled up for Imperial Walkers X10. YHC then called for a single file line for an Indian Run back to the main lot. PAX circled up and as promise, M4L fresh of dropping some gross weight, arrives with enough time for YHC to explain this morning’s route before heading out.

The Workout: It seems like forever since we’ve been able to loop Bass Lake due to rain, so YHC called for the standard loop, counterclockwise with a Soul Crusher exit. For CMD, this would mean that with the warm-up, when we got to the greenway, he could circle back and get his 3.  PAX made their way out of Womble and onto Sugg. Good paces out there by all PAX and many circle backs for the six on the way to the greenway, on the greenway, and as we will later find…on the trails. As we were about .25 away from the lake, Pikachu, Emeril, M4L, Full House, and YHC made one last circle back. There he was, CMD, still ticking and tracking beyond his 3 mi target with Forceps pushing him along. PAX made their way counterclockwise around the lake. Pikachu, Emeril, M4L, and Full House pulled ahead far enough for YHC to see Emeril’s bright yellow shirt in the distance. Not looking to go around the lake, I informed CMD that he could continue straight and then up Soul Crusher, which would take him up into Sugg Farm and then back onto Grigsby and then Womble. YHC was later informed that when CMD made it to Sugg field, he had thought he had bumped his head and Jesus was calling him. Yeah- them hills have a way of playing mind games sometimes.

Meanwhile, on the counterclockwise path around Bass Lake, YHC and Forceps saw the glow of yellow come back the other way toward us. Apparently, trees were down on the trail and we had to call an audible and circle back. As we made our way back onto the greenway, M4L called for some Soul Crusher repeats. As YHC proceeded to the first opening on the left thinking it was Soul Crusher, I was quickly corrected. “That’s not Soul Crusher..keep moving.” “Wait-what?” All along, I thought this was Soul Crusher, but then quickly learned that there was a magical labyrinth of hills on the back side of Sugg Farm and we hit almost all of them. First we went down Heart Break Hill and then back up the ‘real’ Soul Crusher. We then proceed out to the main gates of Sugg, but not before Pikachu, realizing we were about 2.0 mi short, decided to take us through the side field of Sugg to attack some more hills. That’s when Emeril informed YHC to share some tunes, and was happy to share the playlist as we labored up and down the hills. By this time the humidity was meeting exhaustion and was time to get to Womble as fast as possible, and all PAX made a strong final push back to the parking lot. As we made it to Womble, all PAX were accounted for and got there just in time to welcome CMD back into the fold as he had finished his 5th mile.

Fist bumps all around this morning. Strong showing by all PAX posting.

Mary: Stretches OYO
