Come to Southwake and get in a elementary school gym class workout

YHC overslept slightly and knew he was going to miss the EC crowd. After quickly getting ready and out the door, I pull up to the stoplight and see Warbucks headed to play games at Tiger Blood which as we all know is the second best workout in Southwake on a Thursday. I didn’t bother rolling down my window to try and convince him to follow me to Disney as I knew he had an obligation to shoot hoops with those PAX that didn’t want to exercise this morning.  As I pull into the lot at 0507, I see the EC crowd of 1, Pablo, running alone. I didn’t bother to grab my tracer as I wanted to catch him. After a brisk half-mile sprint and a couple of cat-calls I got Pablo to turn around.   We took some short cuts on the run so we could do some scouting at Disney.  There’s been some trail work completed and we wanted to confirm the Abyss was accessible.   Once confirmed we jogged back to the parking lot to get some light stretching in because Pablo is old and has bad hips.   David Key, I mean Deadbolt, pulled in.  Sometimes when PAX don’t show up for a while I forget their F3 names.   CHIPS and Dumbo rolled in and we were ready to go.

FNGs: None, probably wanted an easy workout and went to Tiger Blood

Warm Up: Took to the soccer fields.   SSH x25, Cotton Pickers (yeah we called em this), Good Mornings, Hillbillies, Imperial Walkers

The Workout: Workout started on the soccer fields with Anthony Bourdains, aka Suicides.  BTW Pablo is a terrible person for naming these. 3 rounds of suicides included a 10 count exercise (LBCs, Merkins,  & some other exercise I don’t recall)

Indian run to the abyss.   First 3 to the Abyss partnered up.  Last 2 partnered up.  Ended up being Pablo, Chips, Dumbo and David Key/Emeril.
Partner 1 run to bottom and back up.
While Partner 1 runs, Partner 2 or 3 work through x50 hand release merkins, x100 WWII and x150 Jump Squats.
Rotate until complete.

Indian run back to the soccer fields.
Anthony Bourdains x2 rounds with Peoples Chair (each PAX x10 count) and Balls to the Wall (each Pax x5 cadence count)
Bear Crawl to suicide spot 1, Lunge to spot 2, Bear Crawl to spot 3, Lunge to spot 4.

Mary: 6 inch hold into 90 degree hold, roll right into dying cockroaches.  Back to 45 degree roll into LBC’s.  Back to 6 inch hold, roll into low slow flutter.   Left leg over right knee and left elbow to right knee x20. Right leg over left knee and right elbow to left knee x20.   x10 Homer to Marge, x10 Homer to Marge left leg up, x10 Homer to Marge right leg up.

Jog to the parking lot for announcements, prayers and COT

Sprints, Ramps, Accountability…and another guy named Todd

Always great to Q outside of Any Given Sunday every now and then. Monday was my second time Q’ing Paradise City and have always loved the options at this AO. You have the ramp, rock piles, a tunnel, plenty of parking spaces, and a long line of guard rails, which are almost as long as the line of excuses Midget gives YHC when he HC’s, but never shows to the next day’s workouts.

This morning, YHC rolled in about 15min early. Several cars were parked already to get some EC. One I recognized was Full House, fresh of a solid Torch Run on Saturday. Particle Board was already in the lot with an FNG he had headlocked for this morning’s workout.   FNG introduced himself with Hospital Name-Todd…..Yes, men another guy named Todd. Now he was provided a quality F3 at the conclusion of the workout, but have to say F3- SouthWake is a breeding ground for HIM that regularly post with the hospital name of Todd- Maybelline, Norm, Coal Ash, Pablo, Wiggly, YHC, and now the newest member of our group who is now commonly referred to as F3-Utah.

Thank goodness for F3 names as you can imagine the confusion that this creates at the Wescott pool when the Wescott clowns Pablo, Maybelline, and YHC are present at the same time and one of our M’s shouts, “hey Todd” to the pool from the lounge chair.

Anyway…7 Todd’s… I digress. As Particle Board, FNG, and I were wrapping up our conversation the sweet sound of a diesel engine in the distance cut the humidity… Could it be?…..Heck yeah it was.. Roger Roger has returned from hunting wolverines in Alaska and has come to re-engage with this F3 thing we have in South Wake.. Welcome back, Bro. We missed you and glad you are here.  Next to roll in was Deadbolt, then Bufford, and Pablo. Just in time as Full House came rolling in from EC, along with Yogurt and Go-Gurt who had already worked up a lather on the way in.

Disclaimer provided the FNG. A quick 2 minutes to go for last minute stretches and we were off at 5:45am.

FNGs: Welcome FNG-Utah (named after Johnny Utah from Point Break. Hobbies included surfing and is also a Michigan fan- Go Blue! Name was fitting considering in Point Break , Utah was a former Ohio State quarterback turned FBI agent). Kudos to Pablo on the solid name and reference.

Warm Up: Light jog weaving through the parking lot around the medians, with alternating shuffles and butt kickers. Circled up for SSH X20, Imperial Walkers IC X12, Hillbillies X12, Mountain Climbers X12. Recovered on the jog to the guard rails adjacent to the basketball courts. Time to warm up the upper body with a Slide Rule special of Erkins, Derkins, and Dips X20 each. Recover on the jog up the hill beyond the tennis courts for a set of Jack Webbs in a 1 merkin to 3 air press ratio, incrementally increasing to 10 merkins and 30 air presses. Recover on the jog to the lot before the concession stand. Time to warm up the legs. YHC called for a set of 20 prison squats with a squat hold at 15 and 20 where we held for a 10 count in cadence of Morocan Night Clubs.

The Workout: Accountability sprints up the ramp. YHC called for a partner up by speed. Challenged PAX to partner with another HIM that was going to push them on the ramp for a set of 7’s. With 10 PAX we had 5 groups of HIM that were equally matched in speed except for YHC, who was paired with Pablo… we’ll get to that in a minute.

Pairings: Yogurt and Go-Gurt, Full House and Bufford, Roger Roger and Deadbolt, Particle Board and FNG-Utah, Pablo and YHC

Started at the bottom of the ramp and sprint all the way up to the concessions. At the top of Partner 1 performs 6 broke back merkins with Partner 2 in plank position. At the bottom of the hill Partner 2 performs 1 merkin all the way to 6 with Partner 1 in plank, until both partners share equal numbers of broke back merkins at both sides of the ramp. Strong pushes by all PAX with solid efforts up and down the ramp. For YHC it was more like Pablo pulling his partner up the hill, in what I can only imagine looked like a speed boat pulling a tug boat up stream. Just didn’t have the legs this morning.

PAX finishing early picked up the six and upon completion of the final set at the bottom of the hill, YHC led PAX to the middle parking lot area for a set of Build-A-Bears. PAX would bear crawl each parking space performing a merkin incrementally in the middle of each space, skipping a space in between before bear crawling the next space and performing 2 merkins in the middle and so on until we had a total of 10 spaces and 10 merkins.

Mary: Cardio Abs…. In the same lot, each PAX occupied a parking space with their backs to the far end of the lot. YHC called WWII’s IC X10. After performing this first set, PAX would remain on their six with their backs turned. On the word “GO” PAX would sprint to the other side of the lot. At the far end, PAX performed Homer to Marge X10… “GO”- turn around and sprint to the opposite end..LBC X15…”GO-turn around and sprint to the other end..Freddy Mercury X15..”GO- turn around and sprint to the opposite end… Circled up one final time for a set of planked Shoulder Taps X15..Ended with Have a Nice Day.

Announcements: F3 Family Cookout. YHC is looking for PAX to donate pasta and sauce as part of a non-profit charity Grow Our Kids for under privileged family’s. YHC’s PT-Erin Blankenship of Thrive Physical Therapy is running the Richmond Half and is targeting a goal of 680 items of pasta and or jars of sauce in support of this charity through Nov 1st. YHC will be at AO’s and collecting any donations that PAX may have.

T-Claps (Recognition): All PAX coming out and pushing each other and getting some EC in before workout.
Prayer: Continued prayers for Shredder and Bernie and their families. Prayers for those on IR and prayers for continued health for all PAX training for upcoming races. YHC took us out. Always an honor to lead.

Disney won Breathtaker!!!

PAX of  6 for EC and 11 for the main event decided to post at Disney, “The Happiest Place on Earth”, to find out what type of workout $105 spent on breathtaker could buy.  Thanks to Deadbolt and Midget for stepping up with the bidding to secure breathtaker.  Q was happy to see a strong showing of men this morning, especially when they could have posted at Tiger Blood for a C0-Q that was sponsored by the most hated team in the NFC East.

EC: 187, Dawgpound, Emeril, Midget4Life, Dumbo, Axe,

FNGs: None

Warm Up: All exercises in cadence: SSH x20; Imperial Walkers x20; Hillbillies x20; Sir Fazio Arm Circles.  There was a lot of mumble chatter from the PAX this morning during warm-up, so 5 burpees OYO.

The Workout: PAX lined up in two groups for an Indian run that led them through the small parking lot near the community center entrance and then around the back of the school.  Q had the group stop to do some exercises which allowed all PAX to catch up; half the PAX held BTTW while the other half did mountain climbers in cadence x20 then switch and repeat.  PAX continued in their Indian Run to the entrance area of the MCHS football stadium to do 2 sets of 10 each: Derkins, Irkins, Dips, and Box Jumps.  PAX partnered up to complete a triangle circuit of pain that included running over to a large set of steps (abyss’s step sister) and completing a set of Burpees at the bottom, running up the stairs and down the walkway to complete a set of Merkins and WWII,  then running over to and down a smaller set of stairs back to the beginning to complete a set of Star Jumps.  Reps for each exercise started at a 10 count and reduced by 1 repetition for each completed loop.  Most PAX were able to complete 6-8 loops before Q called time and headed back toward the flag.  On the way to the flag, Q stopped back at the football stadium entrance to repeat 2 sets of 10 each: Derkins, Irkins, Dips, and Box Jumps and then revisited the wall where partner#1 held “Balls to the Wall” while partner #2 did a 10 count IC of shoulder taps, partners switched places and repeat.  PAX regrouped into 2 Indian Runs back to the flag for Mary.

Mary: All exercised done in cadence: LSF x20; Homer to Marge: 10 regular, 5 right leg up, 5 left leg up; Box Cutter x20; LBC x20; Pickle Pounders x10; HAVE A NICE DAY!

That’s one ugly coyote

Solid TBD beat down by @Double D this morning.  @Doc – still recovering – is pinch hitting on this backblast and will no doubt miss some details, but let’s roll.

First nice cool morning of fall.  13 HIMs gathered, waited patiently until 5:30 for The Natural (HC – must’ve had a flat on the way over), then got busy.

FNGs: Yes!  Welcome @Felix, son of @Sprinkler

Warm Up: Smurf jacks (knew he was serious when this was his opener), Moroccan Night Clubs, Imperial Walkers, Fazio Arm Circles, Hillbillies, Burpees, Brokeback Durkins, probably other things.

The Workout: DD kept us moving.  To the best of my recollection:
Stage 1: Four corners at the tennis court.  Corner 1: 5 burpees, Corner 2: 10 hand-release merkins, Corner 3: 15 star jumps, Corner 4: 20 prisoner squats.  Bear crawl between each station.
Stage 2: Mosey to picnic tables beside Hunt Center for Coyote Ugly (wheelbarrow pushups on the ground, on the bench, and on the table, hand-walking up and back down each time).  Rinse and repeat.
Stage 3: Mosey to grassy hill of pain.  Crawl bear down, bear crawl up stairs.  Repeat in reverse direction.
Stage 4: Typewriters on the fence, with multiple sets of merkins
Stage 5: Burpees
Stage 6: BTTW with Australian mountain climbers
Stage 7: People’s chair with wonderbras
Stage 8: Partner wheelbarrow up and down steps
Stage 9: Mosey to shelter for 20 irkins, derkins and dips
Stages 10, 11, 12…..Various and sundry other painful things that I’m forgetting or have intentionally shuffled to my subconscious
