Juneteenth at AGS

FNGs: none
Warm Up: butt-kickers, high knees, kareoke, imperial walkers and good mornings
The Workout: Yesterday was Juneteenth, the celebration of the official end of slavery in the United States. As a celebration and recognition of the impact that black people have had on our community, we made five stops in town while getting in 4.4 and some good hill work. Here are the five stops we made:

Holly Springs Elementary (Hunt Center)
– a public school teaching black children
– served Holly Springs for 50 years
– the Hunt Center is named for W.E. Hunt, former principal of Holly Springs Elementary

Grigsby House (412 Grigsby Ave)
– home of George and Gladys Grigsby
– an influential black family in Holly Springs
– ran the Packhouse (local meeting place)

First Baptist Church (208 Grigsby Ave)
– started by about 50 freed black men after Civil War
– originally a log cabin
– many black people who helped start the town before civil war stayed after emancipation

Dessie Mae Womble (Police station)
– first black female police chief in NC

The Packhouse (412 N Main St)
– popular local meeting place
– ran by the Grigsby family
– currently, there is a push to preserve it

Parrish Womble Park
– named after Parrish “Ham” Womble
– first black LEO at Wake County’s Sheriffs Dept
– went on to serve on the Holly Springs town council and as Mayor of Holly Springs
– nicknamed “Mr Holly Springs” for his devotion to the town

This really only scratches the surface of black history in Holly Springs and the surrounding communities. You can read some more at the linked resources below.

T-Claps (Recognition): Warbucks for gathering supplies for the UNC NCCC (and for those who donated). Good work HIM.
Prayer: Prayers for all of the fathers out there.

Holy Humidity Batman! 6/12/21

This was about as humid of a morning I’ve experienced running so far this year.  I figured it would be bad because it rained all day Friday and as the sun came up it felt like a steam room.  The only relief was a little bit of sporadic drizzling rain that hit us on the rain.  I’m truly amazed at anyone who’s running in this type of weather without some type of hydration pack, or water bottle, or hydrating gel pack, or whatever else may be out there that I don’t know about.

FNGs: none

Warm Up: quick parking lot mosey, 10x Good Mornings, 10x Daisy Pickers, 30-35 Merkins OYO

The Workout: 6mi, 3.5mi, or ruck.  6mi route included a search for the albino deer, which eluded me this morning as usual

SSH X20, Good Mornings X10, Wind Mills X10, Imperial Walkers X10, Hillbillies X10

The Workout: YHC was still recovering from the Murph on Monday, so upper body exercises were out. I settled on four corners.

  • Corner 1: mountain climbers.
  • Corner 2: tempo squats
  • Corner 3: step ups
  • Corner 4: lateral lunges

We started the four corners with 10 count, in cadence, each. Then 20 the second round, followed by 30, then back down to 20. Mosey on the long side, sprint on the short.

Crazy Ivan, who are back at Womble starting this week, were gracious enough to share the amphitheater with us on corner 3, and some pleasant mumblechatter was exchanged.

Next, we ducked into the picnic shelter for balls-to-the-wall oops, I mean people’s chair. 10 count down the line, X10 for a total of 70. Recover. Repeat two more times.

We had just enough time for two rounds of calf raises X10.

Mary: Ran out of time, so have a nice day.
Announcements: F3 South Wake picnic coming soon.
Prayer: Florence’s M’s job search, Hardy’s regionals

Officer, I Can Explain

As YHC was pulling into the Ting lot, an HSPD truck turned around and followed in behind me. YHC played it cool and planted the flag and gathered up my headlamp and vest. Officer Clarke explained Bacon asked him to drop off some sweet blinky lights for running. Thanks Bacon! We chatted with the officer while the last few PAX rolled in and everyone got a light. YHC has a few extras if anyone reads this and wants one, hit me up. We told officer Clarke to head over to Womble at about 6:15 to look for some suspicious Pokemon character who was running a workout that may be named later (TBD) and he headed out with a little confusion. A quick count off and explanation of the route and we were off.

FNGs: None

Warm Up: Chat with officer Clarke

The Workout:
There was a 3.5 and a 5+ mile route. We took a moment of silence as we passed by Veterans Park in memory of fallen soldiers. The 6 was picked up and all PAX made it back. Well, Coal Ash’s ankle might say otherwise.
This is the route we ran :D

Mary: Not today

Announcements:
Picnic 6/26, Dauber collecting money for HSPD first aid kits

T-Claps (Recognition):
Bacon and HSPD for the blinky lights.

Prayer:
UTI’s grandmother, unspoken, injured PAX, fallen soldiers.

YHC took us out.

Memorial Day Murph Challenge- 2021

32 Pax showed up today to help me (Shredder) celebrate my 4 year F3 anniversary and more importantly pay respect to our nation’s fallen during our annual Memorial Day Murph Challenge.

Impressive effort by all, especially after the May Challenge. 30 joined in on the Murph, Dauber (IR) joined to capture the event and support with donuts, and Breach (after doing a Murph at 0600) stopped by to give us his thoughts on Memorial Day and his recent visit to Arlington National Cemetery.

Warm Up: short warm-up with SSH, Good Mornings, Willie Mays Hayes, & Frankensteins. Pax counted off by 2s and headed off in opposite directions for Mile 1.

The Workout: 1 mile run, 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 squats, 100 mile run.  Since this is F3 the last mile was an Indian Run race with the slower group having to knock out 50, scratch that, 20 Burpees. After a quick “speech”, the two groups took off in their different directions.

The mental battle was in full effect as my mind kept telling me “you need to quit”, just after I told everyone we needed to learn to Embrace the Suck. But Pax did what they do best and mentally drug me through the last mile.

As everyone wrapped up their last mile and came back together, guess what…..? Yep. We all did Burpees.

T-Claps (Recognition): We raised $425+ for HSPD first response bags. Sprinkler’s team donated 1/2 of their May Challenge winnings to the 1st response bags and 1/2 to the FQV bed building. Great work #HIM.

: YHC took us out. Remember why we have a Memorial Day. Freedom is not Free! 🇺🇸

Runners, ruckers, and terds oh my…

FNGs: Welcome FNG Huffy – UTI let it be known that he brought Huffy and was claiming the point, thanks UTI
Warm Up: SSH, IWs, Frankenstein’s and GM’s
The Workout: 9 PAX out for a 3 miler, one rucker and 9 PAX out for little over 5.  McNugget did his best Lipstick impression, first being denied entry to the bathrooms in 12 Oaks, only to drop his deuce somewhere off Green Oaks Parkway, I’m sure the furry woodland creatures are enjoying the smell.  Great work by all today, beautiful morning for a mosey.
Announcements: Shredder is leading the Memorial Day Murph at Womble, check out slack for more details.  We are also raising money the HSPD to equip 24 squad cars with a pretty sweet First Aid kit, which budgets don’t cover for them…a worthy cause.  Bring some cashish or use the ol’ Venmo for donations.
Prayer: Spoken/unspoken, military, first responders, Crablegs.

Closed with the pledge of allegiance.
