So You’re Saying You Were All Just Standing There?

It’s been awhile since YHC has been over to Purple Cobra. One reason I’ve taken on a lot of Q opportunities in the last year is because you learn a lot about the AO sites and usually something new for pain you can dish out. Today, I discovered that there is an abundance of nice smooth river stone rocks back by the Jiffy Lube. We used those today. We also ran quite a bit of 4 corners and did some other stuff on a strangely and suddenly cold morning on the brightly lit grounds of Purple Cobra. Apparently, I found out afterward during 2nd F that there was a rumor that we just stood around all workout. Nothing but heresay…

FNG’s: Nada
Warm Up: SSH, Good Mornings, Frankenstein’s, Annie’s, Mountain Climbers, Imperial Walkers, Fazio Arm Circles (F/R). Moseyed on over to the big lot outside of Fern Fitness.
The Workout: A stackable 4 corners was in order with different travels between. Round 1: Each corner was 5 burpees with a mosey in between. Round 2: 5 burpees, 10 monkey humpers with karaoke in between. Round 3: 5 burpees, 10 monkey humpers, 15 merkins with backpeddle to sprint between. Round 4: 5 burpees, 10 monkey humpers, 15 merkins, 20 American Hammers with fast feet (for some) in between. The merkins got tough by about the 6th corner and burpees…well we did quite a few of them.  Between each round was a 15 ct. IC LSF as we waited for the six.

Mosey over to Jiffy Lube for 40 dips, 12 SSH, 30 dips, 12 SSH, and 20 dips. To the rock pile. The PAX circled up with two handheld rocks for 50 shoulder press, 25 lateral raises, and 25 front raises. Lots of mumblechatter during this including claims of getting smaller rocks, who should always Q at TBD, who might get a rock thrown at them if they don’t stop smack talking TBD, and comments about not being able to use arms anymore. Finished up with an all PAX 5 count of BTTW on the imposing red wall. And…we found a broomstick.
Mary: Moseyed over (Oboe and UTI sprinted over) to the flag for Mary. 25 WW2’s, 25 Box cutters IC, 25 LBC’s.
Announcements: F3 HSHalf coming up Nov. 14th. Details and needs on Slack.
T-Claps (Recognition): Kosher for making a return to the Gloom. Solid work!
Prayer: Our nation on election Day today. 187 and his M with health issues. My M, Courtney, for some testing going on…we hope nothing too serious. POTS led big taking us out!

It was a cool drizzly morning.

Due to the light rain I was not expecting anyone to show up.  Ended up with a 5 PAX.

Warm Up: The Ruck

The Workout: We hit the red first then the yellow. In order for us to get 5 we doubled back on the red again. Enjoyed talking and catching up with you guys. Thanks for coming.

Mary: None

Announcements: Holly Springs Half coming up. Frosty CSAUP held in the Quay this year. Breach will have more info coming.

Prayer: Prayer’s for 187’s family. YHC took us out.

There’s sidewalk, there’s sidewalk not, there’s sidewalk, there’s sidewalk not…

He loves me, he loves me not..." [Original] : awwnime

Can you believe that with everything going on in the world right now the most “heated” debate this morning was whether or not a certain section of Judd parkway had sidewalks?  Almost refreshing, actually.

YHC looked at the Q Sheet this morning and noticed that no one had signed up to Q this morning.  Crap.  I really should be a better site Q it would seem. No time to really plan anything this morning so it was a make it up on the fly kind of day

Warm Up:

SSH x20 IC

Daisy Picker x10 IC

Windmill x10 IC

Imperial Walker x10 IC

Hillbillies x10 IC

The Workout:

Mosey down to the concession stand area and grabbed a piece of the knee wall for two sets of:

Step ups x20 IC

Irkins x10

Dips x10

Dirkins x10

Afterwards we grabbed some wall on the building.  We did People’s Chair and Balls to the Wall with each PAX giving a 20 count during the first go round and a 15 count the second time though.  Afterwards we headed over to the little hill between the fields for 11s.  We did squats at the bottom and star jumps at the top.

Once done with that we moseyed back up to the tennis courts for a round of what I’m now calling Crab Boils.  Starting at the side line of one of the tennis courts we crab walked to the same line on the next court over where we did 10 Crab Cakes IC.  We crab walked to the next court where we did 10 Crab Humpers IC and finally crab walked to the next court to do 10 Crab Jacks IC.  We took a bit of a rest at the end.  A rest in the form of Jack Webbs.  1 merkin and 4 air presses progressing up to 10 merkins and 40 air presses.

After that we did a Crab Boil back across the courts until we got back to where we started.  Our rest on this side was Batwings.  We were supposed to do 20 IC reps of forward arm circles, reverse arm circles, seal claps, and overhead claps but YHC’s shoulders were on fire (based on the smoke coming off of them) so we audibled half way through to only do 10 reps of seal claps and overhead claps.

One more time across the courts, this time starting off with a lunge walk to the next court, 10 squats, duck walk to the next court, reverse lunges, broad jumps to the next court, forward lunges, and frog jumps to the fence.  At that point it was finally time for…

Mary:

LBC circuit to start.  10x IC each of regular LBC, reverse LBC, knees to the left, and then knees to the right

American Hammer x10 IC

Pickle Pounders x10 IC

Box cutters x10 IC

Reverse box cutters x10 IC

Announcements:

Holly Springs Half coming up on 11/14.  Looking for volunteers to man aid stations and also for a sweeper.  Check Slack for details or reach out to Pikachu.

Frosty CSAUP being held in FV this year and will be a ruck style event, moving between most of the AOs in the Quay (sorry Sheepdog). More details to come, reach out to Breach if you impatient.

T-Claps (Recognition):

Great to see Kubota out in the morning again!

Prayer:

187 and Fanny Pack’s M’s both dealing with things.

Kubota has a 2nd interview today for a position that, if goes well, could end up with an offer before the end of the day

It was a beautiful morning this morning and I was glad to be able to spend it with such fine men.  I hope everyone had an equally great morning regardless of whether you slept in or visited one of the lesser Wednesday morning AOs.

Dumbo the new Quiver

FNGs: None
Warm Up: Bounce, Jog, Bounce some more, Jog, Active Stretching
The Workout: Lots of chatter this morning.  Felt  like CarPex.   So we did some burpees to quiet the PAX.  Into the workout.

4 rounds, 5 exercises, 40 seconds on/20 seconds off.

Clean Series
Z-Press
Waterfall Pullover
Switch Squats
Bow Draw

Last round instead of the 20 second break between sets we did burpees.
Typically Quiver is pretty chatty at the Caveman workout. With Quiver a no show Dumbo took it upon himself to chat away.  The PAX did burpees during stretching, cool down, Mary as penance for his sins.

Mary:  Bunch of steel mace exercises and then 6 minute abs
Announcements: HSHM, Kettlebell challenge in Dec.

Library Day

shut itFNGs: none
Warm Up: We started our journey to the library by jogging down Library Hill. At the pool, we circled up for the following: SSH x 25, Hillbillies x 10, Windmills x 10, Fozio Arm Circles x 10 (f/b), Seal Claps x 10, Overhead Claps x 10
The Workout: Jogged back up Library Hill to our destination, the library. We needed to look around for just the right book, so we ran the diamond. A different workout at each corner. Starting with 5 reps, adding 5 more each time around. Last round was 20 at each corner. Exercises were: narrow squat (feet together), mountain climbers, jump lunge squat, merkins.
Having made our way around the library, we found the section we were looking for (the rock pile). We went and checked out a nice big book. Curls for the Girls x 10, Triceps x 10 and Ruh Rohs x 10. 3 rounds of those. Then squats x 10, 3 rounds.
Having read our books, we returned them to the book drop and jogged back home for Mary.
Mary: Started Mary off with 10 merkins. Plank, arm raised, x 10 on each side. On the six for LBCs, WWIIs, box cutters, low slow flutters, Freddie Mercuries, American Hammer. Finished off with some yoga (runner’s pose / pigeon pose).
Announcements: none
T-Claps (Recognition): Coal Ash for joining me in a very cold gloom.
Prayer: 187’s family

Bats, Zombies, and Werewolves oh my!

I couldn’t miss this opportunity for a Halloween Q when it became available and threw everything I could think of from start to finish! Thanks for the opportunity to lead!

  • FNGs: 1 – Cyclops
  • Warm Up: Circled up for some Good mornings, Candy pickers, then announced that arms do not drop for Halloween Bats: arm circles forward, Seal claps, Overhead claps, Arm circles reverse, Seal claps, Overhead claps, Frankensteins and some Michael Phelps to finish it off, then some Willy Mays Hayes to get the legs right.

The Workout: Halloween survival prep will take place in several locations

  • First we’re off to the rock pile, because we need to get strong enough to face whatever monsters we may encounter. Little did anyone know we’d get all of our reps in one shot for each exercise! 31 count for each exercise: Curls for the girls, overhead press, ruh Roh, tricep extension, ground pounders, bench press, sit-ups, and rock spanks just because it’s GP. I was impressed as there wasn’t a medium or small rock to be found in the circle. Return all rocks but one and mosey over to the paved game area by the school.
  • Rule #1 of Zombieland is Cardio and we’re about to have some fun, while getting plenty of it. This 4 corners workout consisted of 10 seconds fast feet, run, 10 in and outs, run, 10 squats, run, and 10 star jumps, but that’s not all! This is a rotation circuit where we need a zombie and a gatekeeper(to clarify, no key-master present or needed for this, thanks Shredder lol). The gatekeeper is at the cemetery and performs ground pounders with the rock to keep the zombies in the ground; however, this zombie becomes free after completing 10 getups and will chase the pax while performing Frankenstein walks. If pax are caught they owe 10 burpees. First two rounds all pax were safe, but then pikachu became the zombie. He was on his 4th getup before our fast feet were done and we all felt the need for some serious speed as we took off! He caught us all at the star jumps and we all performed the 10 burpees. Shredder was up for our 4th time through and Pax were thoroughly smoked on legs at the finish.
  • Turns out pikachu’s freakish speed was due to a bite from a werewolf and he infected us all. The only cure is silver, and luck would have it that there were two sets of “silver” bleachers nearby. We split up into two groups and went head to head up the bleachers performing “bleacher” merkins, 1 at the bottom, 2 on the second, etc, until we reached 10 at the top. All pax waiting for their turn and waiting for the 6 performed flutter kicks. Time to mosey back to the start and see what’s in store for Mary.
Bloody Mary: circle up with the Q in the middle leading by example.
25 crunches, 20 Mtn climbers, 15 side crunches (left then right), 10 In and outs, and 5 Scissors kicks. Seemed like enough, but not quite finished as we needed to repeat the whole circuit two more times.
Finally it was time to have a nice day!
    Announcements: park cleanup
T-Claps (Recognition): Macho Nacho for getting his Dad out as an FNG, Frenchie for giving a HC and getting a HC from Macho Nacho for ultimate on Monday.
Prayer: Pax dealing with health and personal issues, the country, and safety.

Pre- Halloween Revelry with a Heavy Friend

The heavy music was turned up loud, we went “trick or treating” a couple times, burpees were avoided, kettlebells were clanged, and a heavy friend (coupon) joined in the Halloween Hooliganry at the Underworld for Crazy Ivan. 10 PAX played along with YHC’s game of chance for their pre-Halloween beatdown.

FNG’s: none
Warm Up: SSH x 15, the 10 counts of Seal Claps, Overhead Claps, Good Mornings, and Daisy Pickers.
The Workout: The workout was simple. YHC brought a bucket of tickets, each with a different classic favorite Halloween candy pic on it. Each pic corresponded to a kettlebell exercise that was to be done AMRAP by the men while 1 pax (the timer) carried the pumpkin themed heavy friend (a 75 lb. cement ball skillfully crafted by Dahmer) down to a parked car and back. Repeato on this sequence a lot!

Exercises were: Reese’s – Horn Squats, Snickers – Bell Merkins, Skittles – Single Arm Shoulder Press, Twizzlers – Figure 8’s, Milky Way – Halos, Baby Ruth – Swings.

One caveat…YHC placed a few “trick or treat” tixx in the bucket. When drawn, the whole pax would travel a bit for short exercises. YHC put 3 such tixx in the bucket…2 were drawn during our time together. When they were drawn…we ran down to do a 30 ct. BTTW. Then next one was about halfway through the workout as we travelled up top to typewriter the parking curbs as a group before returning to the Underworld. As Halloween fortune would have it, the PAX never drew the 3rd “trick or treat” ticket…that would have cost us a short mosey, but 30 burpees. At the end of the workout, there were only 3 tixx left in the bucket that we didn’t get to. Lucky day before Halloween!

Mary: 20 Midget Cookie Pouches, 20 LSF IC. Have a nice day!
Announcements: Holly Springs virtual F3 half coming up…consider running or volunteering at aid station. More info to come this week! Mutiny moves to TING Monday for Ultimate under the lights! No metal cleats. Paradise City pax will still workout at TING that day…plenty on room on the turf for a change!
T-Claps (Recognition): Dahmer for his work on a new coupon for Crazy Ivan.
Prayer: Our brothers Shamwow!/187 and their M’s for some recent health issues they are dealing with. Kool aid just moved to area and his family settling in. Chaps stepped up to take us out. Thanks for playing fellas!

Start laying down, do 10 hollow body rocks (start on back, roll to your front, always keeping head, arms, and legs of the ground, like rolling in the mud), push to plank on the last, then “check the action” with a 10-count of shoulder taps, then “fire”with 10 jumps (legs forward into crouch, hands don’t move). Made mention that an AK mag holds 20 to 30 rounds, so they can be greatful they only had to fire 10.

Alternatively, do reps of 3, and rinse and repeat for as many Pax as there are (use a multiplier if there’s 3 or less)

Clickety-Clack (building custom keyboards)

Start at one median, go to the next.

Tour de Rocks at Womble

During my EC route prior to the ME at TBD, I noticed many rock pits throughout the park that I’ve never had the honor (or pain) of visiting. I knew I had pre-blasted a “hunt” or “field trip”, but someone integrated and somewhat scrapped that idea for a chance for all the posting PAX to take their turn at some lesser visited rock sites. 7 PAX posted at TBD to wear out the guns on the stones…and some other things.

FNG’s: No sir.
Warm Up: Good Mornings, Imperial Walkers, Hillbillies, Seal Claps, Willie Maze Haze.
The Workout: Moseyed to the tennis court for some short 7’s to get the gears greased. On one side we had standard merkins, on the other we had Mountain Climber’s IC. then, the tour de Rock began. We stopped at 6 different rock pits and performed the following exercises in total during our tour: 50 Curls for the Girls, 50 tricep press, 25 goblet squats, 40 shoulder press, 40 chest press, 40 rut-rows, 30 IC wonder-bras, 30 squats, 30 IC rock spanks, 40 IC Ground Pounders, 40 Rut-Rows, 20 IC LSF, 50 Chest Press, 25 tricep press, 25 curls for the girls, and…grabbing some small rocks to finish…one in each hand…we did 50 shoulder press, 25 lateral raise, and 25 front raises. Along the way, we stopped on the baseball deck for 40 irkins, 40 dips, 30 irkins, 30 dips…no irkins, much to the dismay of 187…but wait!

When finished with rocks, we went to the picnic shelter for 15 count dirkins, and a 40 ct. of People’s Chair before heading off to Mary. In the end, we got just a bit more than 1.6 miles in too.

Mary: 30 WW2’s, 15 LBC IC.
Announcements: Holly Springs Half…consider running, consider helping. Nov. 14th. Details will be on Slack.
T-Claps (Recognition): All the pax, for cumulatively moving quite a bit of weight today.
Prayer: For 187 and his M…continued peace and guidance through health issues. For our nation, schools, communities and the impact of COVID, elections, and unrest. We need direction from God in these times. Reach out to others who may be needy mental health wise. You never know the impact you can make! YHC took us out!
