If I new it was this, I would have gone to TigerBlood

PAX of 8 (1 tardy), 5 for EC, decided to swallow the DRP and post at Disney for a beatdown provided by yours truly.

EC: 187, Axe, Dahmer, Maybelline, Pablo

FNGs: None

Warm Up: Quick jog around the soccer field and circle up at the flag for the following exercises in cadence: SSH x20, IW x10, Hillbillies x10, Sir Fazio Arm Circles 10F&10B.  As warm ups were completing, ChickenHawk decided to grace us with his presence, so Burpees OYO until he got out of his car and joined us.

The Workout: PAX got in a single file line for a short indian run that would take us to the stop sign at the long road that runs adjacent to the large parking lot.  PAX then split into 2 groups of 4 for small group indian runs to complete stakem-up suicides.  There were 5 pain stations at each intersection on the road.  Pax ran to station 1 and did assigned exercise, then back to the beginning to repeat exercise from station 1.  Then run to station 2 to complete assigned exercise, then back to beginning to repeat station 1 and station 2 exercise, and so on… until all stations were complete and all exercises were repeated and stacked together at the beginning.  Exercises were as follows:  Station 1: 5 Burpees , Station 2: 10 Turkish Get-ups, Station 3: 15 Merkins, Station 4: 20 Jump Squats, Station 5: 25 Monkey Humpers.  It was nearing the end of this activity that the Q heard a fellow PAX say that “If I new it was this, I would have gone to TigerBlood”.  I guess Disney is not for everyone 😉  Pax then regrouped and did an indian run back to the park for more fun.  At the park we partnered up and found a nice wall to rest our balls, so Partner 1 hold BTTW while partner 2 did 10 shoulder taps in-cadence, switch and repeat.  Then, Partner 1 hold BTTW while partner 2 did 10 count in cadence mountain climber, switch and repeat. Then repeat all those exercises sets again but instead of BTTW, Partner held Peoples chair.  Once completed mosey to the short wall for 2 sets of 10 Erkins, Derkins, and Dips.  Mosey to the flag for mary.

Mary: The following exercises in cadence: LSF x20, Homer to Marge x10, Boxcutter x20, Freddie Mercury x10, Pickle Pounders x10

Pace Yourself..

With another Derek Davis Memorial 5K in the books, it had me thinking this morning about our community. As I drove by the stop light at Linksland and Holly Springs, I glanced at the shoe tree. Amazing the outpouring of community support for this event.  Although I didn’t know Derek personally, only knowing what I know from second hand accounts of the great man he was and the  Strava records, many of which he still holds, I do know this.. His legacy is strong in this community and will regret never getting an opportunity to meet him in person. As I drove by the memorial, I made the first of many decisions…this morning’s route would be altered ensuring that PAX would run by in respect and for inspiration.

Arrived to the parking lot seeing 1 flag planted and Dauber sitting in his car waiting for signs of life to show. Exchanged pleasantries while I planted my flag. Bobby Dall comes rolling in as expected, followed by….wait a minute…Is that a ghost? No-It’s Maybelline! Great to see him back in the gloom and ready to test the legs with some mileage. Next we get a soon to be named “AGS Regular”…Oboe. Then followed by Redenbacher, who was coming in hot with 2min before start time.

6 o’clock hits and we were off with the following warm up.

Warm Up: A light hot lap around the parking lot circling up for some SSH X10, Imperial Squat Walkers X10, Good Mornings X10, Fazio Arm Circles 10F/10B, Mosey’d back to the far end of the lot w\butt kickers and high knees. At that point Boy George joined the mix. He had put in a few EC miles and was going to join Dauber for this morning’s Ruck. Carioca with alternating Frankensteins on the way back. Squat hold while Dauber explained his route which would include scenic tours of Sugg Farm, complete with Soul Crusher..YHC’s route would go as follows:

The Workout: PAX would venture up Stinson and exit to Holly Springs Road via Raleigh Street. From there we would head down Holly Springs Road picking up the six before stopping at Linksland at the memorial and then continue to Salem Ridge. From Salem Ridge we would make the push down and up hill before taking a right up Bass Lake Road and then back on to Stinson. During the route, YHC inquired with PAX on upcoming races. Oboe noted that he wasn’t signed up for any, but by the end of the conversation, we had another F3 HSHM entry. He’s signing up so let’s make sure we hold him accountable to that HC, Men! This guy has been showing up consistently on Sunday’s, pacing in front and picking up the six. He’ll be one to watch in November. Great push by him and Bobby Dall this morning.

During the run, it was also great to catch up with Maybelline. Looks like he’s on the recovery path as he was solid and consistent throughout the run. Now this Redenbacher guy is the reason why I titled this backblast.. “Pace Yourself.” He shared that yesterday after some coaching about pace with his 2.0-Swish before they ran the DD 5K, young Swish did not heed this advice. He got out way too fast and by the driving range was sucking wind and wanting a water break. By miles 2 and then eventually 3, the wheels came off… As I heard the re-telling of this story, I smiled. Been there, done that and had a similar experience trying to outpace Lipstick at the Torch Run. You live and learn.

Now heeding his own advice, Redenbacher comes into mile 3.5-4 with what appears to be fresh legs running down YHC as we head down Salem Ridge. Garmin starts to vibrate and I look down to see that he is pushing YHC to 8:25 pace. Ok- It’s on with about 0.25 to the stop sign before the Bass Lake climb. We approach the stop sign with all PAX, each one looking as if this climb is gonna suck….and well, it will, and it does. Great consistent pace is carried by all PAX to Stinson with a few rounds of picking up the six. We get to Stinson and inform Bobby Dall, Oboe, and Redenbacher that YHC is gonna head to the lot with about 5.1 mi. If they want at least 6.0, they should take the long way into Womble with the route around the baseball fields. They continued and all PAX regrouped in the lot and were rejoined by Dauber and Boy George.

Hey ShamWow, this is a BackBlast

FNGs: I hope None
Warm Up: I assume y’all ran
The Workout:

Shamwow took off Backblast duty. But since we need them for Meg’s Smile donations, I’m doing it.  On July 13, 16 HIM got together and ran at UTurn.  Who were they, the world may never know (except the 12 Oaks guys, who I accosted personally).

Did you know about the stepper hill in the back?

Had 9 for Downtown Train. Decided to change things up and went for a little field trip over to the Hunt Center for our workout.  Thanks for the strong effort today and for the opportunity to lead.

FNGs: None

Warm Up: Run to the field behind the Hunt Center and circled up for the following exercises: Daisey pickers, windmills, right/left hamstring stretches, right leg over left and left leg over right stretches.

The Workout: First workout was 11’s. Exercises were lunges and squats. Started with a single lunge at bottom of paved hill, run to top for 10 squats, repeat until we reached 10 lunges and one squat.  For the next exercise we moved around to the steep grass hill towards the back of the field. Partnered up for Dora. Exercises were fazio arm circles forward (100), fazio arm circles backwards (200), and hallelujah’s (300).  YHC had Pax do 50 more hallelujah’s and we jogged back to home base.

Mary:  Dying cockroaches, Freddy Mercury’s, LBCs

Announcements: Pop up AO at Jordan Lake, UvU Challenge

T-Claps (Recognition):

Prayer: Family in Fuqay that lost 3-year old son, injured PAX.

Still hard a year later…

PAX of 18 to celebrate YHC 1 year anniversary by revisiting his first F3 workout. One year ago today, Stark made his triumphant return to South Wake with an epic beatdown at Paradise City. YHC was an innocent victim merloting not once, but twice during the workout. An honor Midget likes to remind me of at least weekly, if not more often.

Thanks to all who came out to support me today. More importantly, thanks to the men of South Wake for the support, encouragement and accountability over the last year. Just showing up was one of the best things I’ve ever done. My life has changed because of and continues to be enriched by you HIM. Thanks to you all, especially 187 and Pablo for the headlock.

FNGs: None – its probably for the best.

Sometimes Randomness Works

FNGs: None
Warm Up: Downtown Train warm-up lap, 5 burpees oyo, Fazio arm circles (forward/backward), overhead claps, seal claps, Michael Phelps

The Workout: YHC had a plan in mind for the workout, but at some point during Dora decided to scrap the plan and go off the cuff. It was somewhat random, but worked this time.

Pax moseyed to rockpile. Each grabbed rock and proceeded to sidewalk adjacent parking lot. Got in pairs for Dora. Exercises for Dora were overhead press (100), tricep extensions (200), curls for the girls (300). While Pax#1 was doing exercise, Pax #2 ran to bottom of hill (forward), then back-up backwards, rock in hand. After everyone finished, held plank for group 10 count.

Moseyed over to parking garage. Pax stayed in groups which split to opposite ends. Did leap frog burpees to meet partner somewhere in the middle for paddy cake merkins and leap from burpee back to starting location. Pax then grabbed some wall space for various exercises….peoples chair x 3 (group 10 count each round), irkins x 2 (25 reps each), step-ups x 1 (25 each leg), balls to the wall x 1 (group 10 count).

Mary: Pax circled for Mary and each called their favorite Mary exercise which included LBCs, plank (group 10 count), Homer-to-Marge, American hammers, dying cockroach, Freddy Mercury, and…

Announcements: Still need some volunteers for Meg’s Smile Charity Auction event next Saturday and golf tournament on Monday. See Wiggly and Slide Rule for details.
