Beta TigerBlood

PAX: Brony, PeakWeek, BlueHen, SlideRule, Da Business, Wiggly, Spanx, Dawgpound, Buford, Pikachu

It is always a difficult decision to start a new AO, but we have seen over the years that this is how we grow and attract new FNG’s. With numbers consistently north of the 12 at Disney it was time to plant a new flag. Since there isn’t currently an AO at Holly Ridge Middle/Elementary today was a beta run to see if this was an ideal location with enough pain stations. The Q hasn’t spent any time at this location, but did some Google Earth reconnaissance and the site appeared to have several good options, plenty of parking, and limited houses. The goal of today was to cover the property and pull out of the bag exercises as they seemed appropriate.  It was a rainy morning for a beta test and some mumble chatter second guessing why they decided this was a good idea, but 10 PAX braved the conditions to see what this site has to offer.  A quick mosey to the front of the Middle school to take some cover from the rain before it was GO time and then we were off.

Warm Up:

Mosey run along the front left side of the middle school towards to the back of the middle school parking lot for warm up.

SSSH X 20

Daisy Picker X 10

Squat hold Fazio Arm Circle X 10 rotate X 10

Windmill X 10

Site Map

The Workout:

Mosey down the stairs to the track.  We couldn’t find an entrance so we jumped the fence, only later to find a wide open entrance further down.  A hot lap of catch me if you can with a partner.  Partner drops down for 5 merkins, sprints to catch the partner, repeat until we all get a lap in.  Jump back over the fence with some groans (some aren’t as nimble and agile as Pikachu).  We gave the bleachers a test for stability with a round of step ups.

Mosey away from the track and towards a path running behind the track and baseball field.  It is here that we discovered a wide open entrance for the track. Continued to run along the path (several uneven sections but no cuts Yet) and continue along this path leading out behind the elementary school.

The PAX divided into three groups.  Group 1 did 10 Pole Jump ups on one playground, Group 2 did 10 dips on second set of playground equipment, and Group 3 did 10 (5 each) pull ups on third set of playground equipment.  The groups rotating until each group completed one set.

Mosey out to the long parking lot on the right side of the elementary school for a round of suicide runs.  Run each light pole and sprint back until we covered the entire parking lot.

The PAX moved over to large, uneven retaining wall across from the parking lot.  Three sets of 20 count New Mexican Quick Feet and 20 count of balls to the wall.  SlideRule got in too tight with his balls to the wall causing a knee injury on the way down.  He took one for the team but kept going strong.

Indian run over to the front of the elementary school and a lap around what appeared to be a kickball field.  The PAX moved over to the center of the field for a round for Starfish.  Brony’s rain jacket was placed in the middle of the star and the PAX split into three group around the jacket.  Group one did 10 merkins, group two did 10 wide-grip merkins, and group three did 10 diamond merkins.  After each group was finished they bear crawled to the center(jacket) for 5 burpees and out to the next station(corner of the star) until all three stations were complete.

Quick mosey over to the front of the school to see what we had to work with.  There was plenty of cover along the walkway leading into the school.  Tiger prints (we think) were covering the walkway so it only made sense to leap frog each tiger print until we covered the walkway.  1 round of dips and urkins on the tables in front of the school.

Quick mosey back to the parking lot where the fun started for Mary.

Mary:

Guantanamo’s – 1 round

American Hammer – X 10

Windshield Wiper – X11

Boat Canoe – X10

JaLo – X10

Peter Parkers – X10

Quick discussion about the new site.  While it doesn’t have all of the options that Disney has, it is a promising new site location…..plenty of large parking lots, a track (that we think we can use), very large soccer field behind the elementary school, baseball field behind the middle school, good cover, limited houses nearby, and Blood Drawn on the first workout.  Several names were thrown out, but we quickly settled on Tiger (paws in front of school) + Blood (SlideRule’s jacked up knee) = TigerBlood.

Thanks for those that came out to help test this site location.  I look forward to helping get this new AO up and running.  SlideRule set the bar high drawing blood…. Challenge accepted.  Come on out next Thursday to join!

The Few, The Brave, The Nutcrackers…

It was a cold and dark morning with temps in the mid 30’s which apparently led some to enjoy the fartsack rather than tread out into the gloom. As a result numbers were a bit lighter than normal. A fact that was being discussed as two more PAX graced the parking lot with their presence just in time for a mosey around to the basketball court where our warmup ensued.
Incidentally YHC and PAX who were nearby were nearly ensnared during said mosey by some kind of metal wiring protruding into the sidewalk. An entirely unsuitable situation for an elementary school responsible for the safety of children. A strongly worded letter may be in order. The situation notwithstanding, we proceeded…

Warm Up:

Good Mornings x10 IC
SSH x 20 IC
Daisy Pickers x 15 IC
Sir Fazio Arm Circles –  x 10 forward/ x 10 backward IC
Moroccan Night clubs x 15 IC
Windmills x 10 IC

The Workout:

We started by partnering up in preparation for what was soon to be revealed as one of Moby’s least favorite exercises: the wheelbarrow. Partner 1 was in the horizontal position on the way down to a previously designated turnaround point where prior to switching places, partners did 10 Hand Clap Merkins, returned to the starting point via the wheelbarrow and completed another 10 Hand Clap Merkins.
R&R substituting 10 Squats for Hand Clap Merkins – which was a welcome change of pace.
We stayed in the same location for the next challenge: a classic Dora with the same partners…
Merkins x 100
LBC’s x 200
Squats x 400
Partner 1 chipped away at the above exercises while partner 2 ran to a designated point (about 100 yards) and upon returning switched places until all reps were complete.
Mosey to the rock/ brick pile to grab a cinder block. Partners lined up with their blocks on either side of the divider in the parking lot.
Round 1 = 10 reps: Partner 1 did Curls for the girls (IC); Partner 2 did Wonder Bras; Partners left their block in place and then ran around the divider to the other partner’s block – Partner 1 then did Wonder Bras and Partner 2 did Curls for the Girls.
Round 2 proceeded in the same fashion increasing reps to 15.
Round 3 – you guessed it – same thing but added another 5 reps for a total of 20.
Return the bricks and mosey to the front parking lot just in time for Mary…

Prayer: Moby’s family, Coal Ash wife’s friend who suffered a loss from pancreatic cancer, unspoken and YHC took us out.

That’s Good Periformus

YHC had plans for a “Wrightsville Friendly” workout, something with 1-3 very easy miles, lots of stretching.  Something to just get the blood moving and the legs working lightly.

But then 8 PAX showed up, and the only one running Wrighstville was YHC, so an audible was called to do a regular bootcamp.  YHC regrets this decision immensely.

Warm Up:

  • Run the lines
  • SSH x20
  • Imperial Squat Walkers
  • Mountain Climbers, Plank Jacks, Merkins

The Workout:

Part 1:

Mosey to the wooden fence for a Merkin Ladder:

  • Bottom rung, 1x Derkin
  • Top rung, 1x Derkin
  • Top rung, 1x Irkin
  • Bottom rung, 1x Irkin

Repeat, going up to 5x

Transit to the next lightpole via Broad Jump, Lunge Walk Burpees (1x Burpee, 1x Broad Jump, 1x Lunge each leg; repeat until lightpole)

Continue Merkin ladder, 6x-8x

Return via Broad Jump, Lunge Walk Burpees

Finish Merkin Ladder, 9x, 10x

Part 2:

Head to playground.  Initial plan was rotating 5x Pullup, 10x Merkin, 20x Squat, Sprint in groups of 4.  Merkins were a terrible idea, so a double audible was called.

Half the pax did a 90 degree hang (elbows, not waist, @DaBusiness) while the rest did:

  • 10x Star Jumps
  • 10x LBC in Cadence
  • 5x Burpees

(that’s 3 rounds of hangs)

Part 3:

Bear Crawl Stretch: Line up along path.  PAX in back bear crawls to front.  Everyone else holds a single stretch.  Author’s Note: This is the kind of stuff I wanted to do the whole time, but nooooo

Mary:

Round robin on the 10 count.  Yes, Lucky picked burpees.  No, we were not surprised.

Announcements:

ShamWow was our 6.  He’s only been coming a couple months, but F3 has definitely scratched an itch.  He had the idea it would be great if we had smaller groups of guys supporting things like 5k’s, mini charities, etc.  Don’t always need the whole crew to show up.  I strongly agree.

Handing off Site Q duties to Da Business.  Good luck, and it’s been an honor to lead for the last year!

Prayer:

Shredder’s under the knife this morning.  Stay safe this weekend at the beach!

Throwing In The Towel

Par for the course it was another damp and chilled morning to start the week. 4 weeks strong at this new AO

2.15 mile EC for Nemo and Maybeline. First time we have had the chance to run together, some solid mumble chatter to start the day.

Warm Up: On the jog for a 0.4 mile loop and circle up at start. Looking to engage the PAX we went with a warmup-o-rama. Each PAX called and led a warmup of their choice.
The Workout: YHC caught the attention of the PAX by grabbing a stack of towels from the truck and we headed on the jog over to the back lot of the library. Partnered up for a little something new. In place of the newly forming legend of the SSH as a go-to exercise at Downtown Train, each set of partners grabbed a towel. Partner 1 went on the run to far end of the curved lot and back while partner 2 stood in place and used the towel for some resistance arm work. No count, no cadence, just putting in some solid work keeping a good pace with the arms completing a round of Towel Shakes. We did these so each PAX did 6 rounds. Next we stayed partnered up for a modified Bear Crawl 1-2-3. This is a Dora with 100 merkins, 200 LBCs and 300 squats as a team. Partner 1 works on the 1-2-3 while partner 2 does a bear crawl out 4 parking lot lines and crawl bear back. Focused not on just trying to crank through it – completing the numbers was not important. We focused on good form at the right pace. We did 2 sets each round with round 1 being bear crawl/crawl bear and merkins, round 2 crab walk/bear crawl and LBC, and round 3 lunge walk/squats. Wrapped up with a set of 10 merkins and headed back to start on the jog.

Mary: Back to the start we closed out like we started, plank-o-rama.
Announcements: Check slack/fb
Prayer:  spoken and unspoken, support for those doing WB for good health and strong support of ALS, YHC took us out on prayer

Tower of Power/Pain

No-Nonsense Workout Centered Around Tower and BTW/Preacher’s Chair. EC: YHC and Cowboy.

Warm Up: SSH, GM, arm circles (f/b), plank/runner’s lunge/downward dog, Merkins, lunge walk to top of lot
The Workout: Introduced the Tower of Power–the softball fieldhouse. A 25 count of Preacher’s Chair and 25 count of Balls to the Wall served as the hub–literally and figuratively. From the hub, we explored the four corridors–or spokes–between the fields.

Spoke 1 (batting cages): Dips 25 and Derkins 25 on small wall surrounding batting cages, back to Tower for 25 Preachers/25 BTW

Spoke 2 (west to greenway): 10 Burpees OYO, 25 derkins, back to Tower for 25 Preachers/25 BTW

Spoke 3 (flag poles): 25 LBCs in cadence; 20 WWIIs, back to Tower for 25 Preachers/25 BTW

Spoke 4 (handrail by pond): Inclined pullup (hang from handrail, pull up), 25 squats, back to Tower for 25 Preachers/25 BTW

Circle up by Tower for Round-the-Clock Merkins.  Apparently these were military clocks because I kept going past 12 at 12 o’clock. Then, I did it again at 9 o’clock. Oooops, was on a roll. Running low on time, we rushed back to tennis courts for Mary.
Mary: Kid Cracker led 20x exaggerated low slow flutter, YHC led American hammer 20x
Announcements: Holly Springs Spring Classic preview run, 8 am Saturday; Burger Feet (F3 Raleigh): F3 Raleigh travels to Wallace NC every Saturday to rebuild homes affected by hurricanes/floods. Raised $143k already with help from Rebuilding Together. Just picked two homes to rebuild. Breathtaker: Bidding war between Breach and Burger Feet $250. Breathtaker is heading to Raleigh for the week!
Prayer: Keep the PAX strong and healthy
