Old School, New School, DoppelgÀngers, and Disappearances

The use of heavy music was pre-blasted by YHC today for my first kettlebell Q at Crazy Ivan.  We moved not so heavy weight a lot of reps and listened to heavy music most of the time. 13 pax showed up on another rainy and humid morning under the garage for some 40/10 tabata kettlebell work. We had 6 in attendance for EC (3 running including YHC/3 yoga) with one disappearance for the main event. Where did Emeril go???

FNG’s: None
Warm Up: SSH, Good Mornings, Sir Fazios, and Frankenstein’s with a 2 loop mosey around the deck.
The Workout: 40/10 tabata with 8 exercises planned for 5 rounds but YHC called an audible for popcorn instead of final round.  This was a great mix of pax I don’t often see, so YHC wanted to test the creativity of the group for the final round… they did not disappoint!

4 Round Exercises were: Halos, Clean/Jerk/Press, Kettlebell Merkin, Swings, Midget Love Handles, Goblet Squats, Figure 8’s, and Lawnmowers.

The playlist stayed heavy throughout. At one point, the Dawgpound asked if a Metallica song was Godsmack.  The pax corrected him and went on to say that the song was new school Metallica (if by new school we mean 1997). Fonzie then says, “man, if that’s new school we should put on some Hanson or the Monkeys.” Playlist eventually turned to a lighter track with the  Foofighters that the Dawgpound guessed correctly followed by a 16-bit comment of “this playlist is kinda psychotic”. YHC responded, “yeah I know   I like it!” At the same time YHC mentioned that Boy George is a doppelgĂ€nger for Dave Grohl of the FooFighters.  Apparently, Boy George Has heard this before.  Then some actual old school Metallica Seek and Destroy came on.  Now that’s 1983. Of course, 16 bit says, “isn’t it all really old school nowadays?”   Good point.

Audible called to popcorn for pax to call 15 reps of anything including Mary moves. Exercises were: kick throughs, 2 rounds of Midget Cookie Pouches, standard merkins, 6 inches, LSF’s, Shoulder Press, Boobity-Boobitys, H2Ms, chest presses, LBC, and of course Lucky Charms calls burpees to just about blast us out!

Today we Run…Maybe?

YHC had grand plans for a tour of the Downtown Holly Springs area, including 7’s on Cemetery Hill. But Pax with some nagging injuries/cramping forced some modification. I think everyone got their money’s worth though.

EC: Coal Ash

FNGs: None

Warm Up: Standard lap, 5 burpees OYO

The Workout: YHC limited warm-up in an attempt to get through everything that was planned for the morning, which was a tour of Downtown. After quick warm-up we were off. While heading to our first stop, a truck comes pulling into the parking lot. Our good pal Nemo decided to join us. First stop was the library. Pax honored Nemo’s tardiness with 5 burpees and then headed off to the next stop, the pool. Circled up at the pool for jack webs (1:3 x 7). Moved through exercise quickly and told Pax next stop, the Cemetery. We head up Library Hill and we start to slow down a little. Had one Pax struggling with cramps, the other with a sore calf. Releasing we weren’t going to get through the workout as planned, YHC decided to modify to a location a little closer, the parking garage.

At this point we lost Moped due to cramping, but we carried on. In the parking garage we did the following exercies:

Wall Sit (20 count each Pax)

Suicide ladder length of garage (merkins 5, 10, 15)

50 Mountain Climbers

Bear crawl 5 parking spaces and back

50 LBS in cadence

50 SSHs in cadence

Suicide ladder length of garage (WWIIs 5, 10, 15)

50 Mountain Climbers

Bear crawl 10 parking spaces and back

50 LBS in cadence

50 SSHs in cadence

Wall Sit (20 count each Pax)

Mary: 15 burpess OYO

Choo Choo!

It was quite at Downtown Train this morning until a slow driving creepy car was doing circles around the parking lot of Downtown Train. I thought I was solo until Chaps from Wyoming appeared and said “Is this F3?”   After some small talk, finding you out you are Emeril’s neighbor (sorry) the workout commenced.

Ivan Second Week Back

Yoga EC: Dawgpound, Pikachu, Pumpkin Spice, Skidmark
FNGs: None
Warm Up:

Did a quick lap to get the legs moving. Circled up for the following

Foot traces 5 each direction each leg
Hip Barrels
Staggered Hinges
Spinal Twists
Ringers
Neck Turns

The Workout:

3 Rounds

10 Sprawls Jump rotates — This was meant to get the heart rate going, Sprawl is pretty much a burpee without the pushup. Jump and turn 180 degrees. Two jumps are one rep.
10 Alternating Lunges Each Side
10 Push Up on the Bells
10 Pistol Rows
10 Midget Love Handles

2 Rounds

10 Balls to the wall Push Up — Feet against the wall. Push-up. Climb feet up to the wall until vertical. Climb back down and repeat. The second round it was difficult getting vertical. My angle was probably 45.
10 Kick Throughs — Loaded Beast position. Opposite arm and leg are moving together. Kick leg through and pull the arm back. Similar to the breakdancer.
10 Strict Press
10 Deadlift one leg bent Switch each side
10 Halo Each Direction. Alternate direction after each rep

Finisher:

10 Minutes on the Minute: Do the reps and what remains from the minute is your recovery.
5 Snatches each arm
20 Swings

This was tough. I started with my 35 lb bell. I finished with 3 seconds to go before we started again. I switched to the extra 15 lb bell I brought. 20 lbs lighter improved my time by 4 seconds. 15 lb bell was probably to light. Needed a 25 lb bell today.

Mary:

It Ivan there will be some stretching

Downward Dog into Pigeon. During Pigeon, we rotated the hips by turning to each side.
Then we proceeded into a Kneeling stretch reaching with the hand overhead and then back.

Announcements:

If I’m Q’ing the workout expect a Finisher. That means if you have a lighter bell bring it.

T-Claps (Recognition):

Lucky and Pikachu. I saw them out of the corner of my eye during the BTTW Push-ups. they were still getting vertical during the last set.. I’m sure there were others. Congrats to all for trying new things.

Chaps for coming to Ivan. Two F3 workouts in his first week. Great start man.

Prayer:

Avoiding the Quarantine 15

There are so many things I want to say right now. So many ways to begin this backblasts, all make sense, all important, but I don’t think I can truly find the right words to express what this morning meant not just to me, but for a lot of other Pax. On Friday, I went for a run and ran past a few AOs that had kicked off again. Each had 3 Pax, despite warm weather and a bit of excitement in the air. Saturday is a long run day and we know about SW’s reputation. Sunday AGS wasn’t as large as typical. So, what would today bring. And the Q promised 3 miles of high intensity bootcamp. I love this group of guys and we lean on each other more than we realize. 12 men posted at Paradise City this morning and the mumble chatter was on point.
