Bear Crawl on the Rocks

on the rocksFNGs: none
Warm Up: SSH x20, Windmills x10, Daisy Pickers x10, Fozio Arm Circles / Sun Gods x10 forward x10 back, Seal Claps x10, Overhead Claps x10, Moroccan Night clubs x10
The Workout: YHC’s avoiding a lot of running due to injury, so we took things nice and slow today. Like, bear crawls across the parking lot slow. We mosied over to the rock pile and grabbed a medium-sized rock. It went like this:

  • Curls for the girls x30 in cadence.
  • Bear crawl / rock push across the parking lot (long ways) to the next corner.
  • Squats x30 in cadence.
  • Lunge walk short side.
  • Ruh Rohs x30 in cadence.
  • Bear crawl / rock push.
  • Ground Pounders x30 in cadence.
  • Lunge walk back to start.

Round 2 was the same, with the count at 20. Round 3 we were running tight on time, so we swapped the bear crawls with John Cusack walk. Count at 10. Returned our rocks and mosied over to the picnic shelter.

Lined up for People’s Chair, 10 count down the line for a total of 40. Balls to the Wall, 10 count x4 = 40. Urkins, Durkins and French Dips, 10 each. Mosied back for Mary.
Mary: Popcorn Mary (those shoulder taps were rough). Ended with some light yoga stretching.
Announcements: *crickets*
T-Claps (Recognition): Cancun for swapping out for a bigger rock after round 1 of the workout.
Prayer: mental health for everyone these days, sleep for those with wee ones

Do the Major Melon Dew T-Shirt Challenge

Pre-pre-blasted on Tuesday Feb 23rd that any PAX who posted and ran 3+ miles at U-Turn would receive a Mt Dew Major Melon long sleeve T-shirt and a free can sample of the full sugar or zero sugar.  Received plenty of HC’s on Tuesday and plenty more with Friday evening’s pre-blast.  Including myself 24-PAX were out and about at U-Turn…by far the most I’ve ever had the honor to Q

FNGs: none today

Warm Up: quick mosey around the parking lot, Michael Phelps arms, 10x Windmills, 10x Good Mornings, 10x Daisy Pickers, 10x Frankensteins, 10x Imperial Walkers, 25-30 Merkins

Do You Even Lift Bro?

Sometime in the prior week YHC got the idea to bring out the deadlift bar to Captain Caveman and pair each pax’s reps with reps on the mace. This format also fits well for Crazy Ivan – maybe it’ll make an appearance there.

The pre-blast mentioned lifting but didn’t quite give pax an idea of what to expect. Waking up early for EC yoga YHC decided to bring enough weight for reps of 135 and 185 thinking that 135 might be a bit too light. The sad news the day before about Daft Punk set up our play list and put the number 28 into play at various times too.

Yoga happened (thanks Dawg, Emeril, & Redenbaucher) and the cars began to roll in.

FNGs:

None today unfortunately.
Warm Up:

SSH x28 IC (In Cadence)

Daisy Pickers x10 IC

Good Morning x11 on my down/up

Sir Fazio Arm Circles x10 forward/backward – keep arms up through spinal rotation

Seal Clap x10 IC

Overhead clap x10 IC

Chinook x10 IC

Windmill x10 IC

Spinal Rotation x10 IC

The Workout:

1 pax on the deadlift bar counts reps. All other pax perform exercises based on those reps/timing – exercises stayed constant for 5-6 pax worth of deadlifts on the bar and included:

  • Deadlifts – alternating between two-legged and single-legged
  • Ballistic curls
  • 360 swings
  • Pendulums

Wiggly made it clear from the beginning that 135 was too light. We had multiple 30+ efforts, a few 50s, and one 60.

For the round with 185 we kept it more reasonable but still very impressive – 3x 30+ rep efforts.
Mary:

Ditch the mace

Absolution (groiner, down to chill cut, plank jack, up to standard – 8 cadence count) x11 IC (28 just wasn’t going to happen)

Sorry 16 Bit

It was raining so POTS came to visit. It is always nice seeing POTS. Also Peeping Tom came down from Carpex. They must not have a parking deck workout on Friday. I’m assuming he was avoiding the rain. Or maybe he likes being around us.

EC: Emeril and Dawgpound for some Yoga

Warm Up:

You know you bounced with me.
Foot trace
Tootsie Roll
Spinal Twist
Bat Wing
Fazio Arm Circles Forward/Backward
Seal Claps
Overhead Claps
Randies — right after Bat Wing

The Workout:

We did a bit of exercises before the main event

30 KB Swings
5 Push Ups on Bell Each Arm
5 Swings to High Pull
5 KB windmills each arm
10 Thrusters Each Arm

We went into the main event a bit early. I had to much time at the end.

The main event was the game Tabata format. This is 45 seconds work with 15 seconds of rest. You do three exercises. You do the same number of reps for each exercise. We started off with 4 reps. If you finish close to 30 seconds you add 2 reps for each exercise. If you finish after 45 seconds you remove two reps to each exercise. If the exercise is one arm or one leg then you split the reps between the left and right side.

20 rounds of:
Swing to High Pull
Thrusters
Kettle Bell Pushups

I thought the three exercises went well together. Afterwards I was good and sweaty.

Mary:

We did a bunch of stretching to loosen the legs. Need to put the work in after a workout like that so you can function the next day.

Announcements:

Uhh I don’t remember.

T-Claps (Recognition):
Prayer:

Sorry I don’t remember

First Dingers

A much warmer, yet still misty morning at The Nest. YHC cooked up a much different routine that required far less running than the Q yesterday at Mutiny. We would be doing a pronounced upper and lower body attack during our workout today. I just needed to make sure the stage was clear for us to use the area down by the ballfields. As Gamecock and I passed on the EC run, YHC saw that we should be good to go. Good thing Sprinkler pulled in for the main event. The first routine of the day was inspired by him as he had previously shared a story about his first little league home run being hit at the field at the Nest. In addition, he shared that his 2.0 hit his first homer on the same field. Good story.

FNG’s: none
Warm Up: Windmills, Frankenstein’s, Moroccan Nightclubs, a squat hold series with overhead claps, seal claps, and more Moroccan Nightclubs, and Daisy Pickers.
The Workout: A short mosey over to the ball field for a baseball inspired stack up series. Each stack was followed by a 5, 10, 15, or 20 count per PAX of alternating Balls to the Fence or People’s Chair. We added an exercise each go around as noted below until the last round where we did all of them in order. Wound up with 7 rounds total.

SSH x5 IC (Single)

Merkins x10 (Double)

Fence Squats x15 (Triple)

Pickle Pounders x20 IC (Home run….of course)

Star Jumps x25 (2-Run Shot)

WW2’s x30 (3-Run Homer)

Diamond Merkins x35 (The Grand Slam)

Another short mosey back up to the parking lot for a suicide series that included a bear crawl, reps of squat jumps, lunge walk return. We did this across each of 8 parking lines, each line was a rep count (ie. 8th line = 8 squat jumps). We blew it out at the end with Monkey Humpers x10 IC, Shoulder Taps x25 IC, and Merkins x25.

Mary: American Hammers x20 IC, LBC’s x25 IC, LSF’s x20 IC, Hand Release Merkins x 25, Freddie Mercury x20 IC, Dying Cockroach x25 IC. Have a nice day!!!

Rocks x50000

FNGs: none
Warm Up: Moseyed over to the rock pile for our rocks, then met up behind the library for:
SSH x20, Windmill x10, Good mornings x10, Fozio Arm Circles x10 forward / x10 backward, Seal Claps x10, Overhead Claps x10, Maracan Night Clubs x10
The Workout: YHC is still nursing his Achilles, so we didn’t travel much. We started out on one side of the half-circle with the following:
– Curls for the Girls x30
– Triceps x30
– Ground Pounders x30
John Cusacked our rock to the other side of the half-circle.
– Ruh Roh’s x30
– Overhead Press x30
– Tempo Squat x30.
Lunge-walked back to start.
Did a second round, decreasing the reps to 20. Then one last round with reps at 10. Returned our rock and moseyed back to start for Mary.
Mary: Went with Popcorn Mary. I like Popcorn Mary because it gives everyone a chance to lead some. It also gives Q a break from having to think of exercises.
Low Slow Flutter x15, Pickle Pounders x20, Heel Taps x15, Freddie Mercuries x15 and finished with Fox Holes (push up, roll over to sit up, back to push up, repeat) xlost count. We were thoroughly soaked at this point.
Announcements: TEDTalk at 8pm tomorrow (2/16).
T-Claps (Recognition): Warbucks for getting back out in the gloom. Good to have you back!
Prayer: Praises for those recovering from Covid as well as prayers for those still going through it.

Toys at TBD

After the t-shirt offer from TBD site leadership YHC signed up for a few days throughout the year. Not an AO that I get to all that often but certainly a location that I’m intimently familiar with – there have been weeks that I’ve spent 5+ hours cumulatively at Womble Park.

With a race upcoming this weekend it was the perfect opportunity for a relatively low running, low leg impact workout. With a few toys in the car YHC made the load up early and tried (but failed) to not be late to the 0445 ECEC call with Fanny Pack. After 2 miles we picked up Abe, got it in on the standard EC route, and then they were nice enough to help me fight with setting up what would be the most popular toys – the gymnast rings. We made it back to the parking lot just in time for 0530 and to find Tetanus, Snap, and Bobby Boucher wondering where everyone else was. I opened the car back up to get some help with the 50 and 70lb kettlebells. We took a walk together back to the playground and we were set.

FNGs: None today in the Springs – lots in the Quay though!
Warm Up:

SSH x15 IC

Good Morning x10 on my down/up

Daisy Pickers on Fanny Pack’s cadence while YHC fought with a strap again

Squats x15

Sir Fazio Arm Circles x10 forwards/backwards

The Workout:

Pax circled up for the following stations (in this order):

  • 20x Pull Ups – this was the timekeeper
  • Kettlebell swings w/50lb bell
  • Squats on balance ball
  • Deadlift w/70lb bell
  • SSH

Atomic pushups (Merkins with hands on gymnast rings in straps, feet on ground, so as far down as you can) – it turned out that doing pull ups after these was challenging, so we swapped the order after our  break

We repeated for two total rounds and then took a lap around the soccer fields in a doomed attempt to see the smelly runners from across town. We stopped at the white fence for YHC’s version of typerwriters – start with feet on the lowest wrung for 8x Derkins, slide across and setup up a wrung for 6x derkins, slide back down and go to the top for 4x derkins, slide across for the last 2x derkins.

Mosey back to the playground for one more round on the stations.

  • Mosey over to the ampitheater for some work with the wall:
  • Preacher’s Chair x10 IC
  • Balls to the wall x15 IC
  • Preacher’s Chair x20 IC
  • Balls to the wall x25 IC

My Eyes are Closed…but I Can Still See It!

Always a lot of great 1-liners at Ground Pounder! Today, did not disappoint to that end. It was a cold and bright sunny morning at Jones Park, but even the flaming ball that is in the sky could not compare to the brightness (or tightness) of Pikachu’s pants! At one point, Shredder mentioned he had to close his eyes whilst running behind Pikachu due to the brightness, but could somehow still see (hence…the title of this BB). Other great 1-liners of the day:

“I think I’m lactating” – Shredder. “We all need to sign up on that Q Sheet so this jackass can’t Q here anymore” – Pikachu. “All my rocks are frozen to the ground” – Frenchie. “I’m just gonna pick up that slab of concrete” – Farva. “Small, medium, large. You must’ve missed something that day in elementary school” – Shredder.

FNG’s: – nope

Warm Up: SSH x 25, Daisy Pickers, Sir Fazio’s F/R, Imperial Walkers, Hillbillies all x 10, and Good Mornings x 21 (much to the agreement of Shredder and Pikachu).
The Workout: Now for the disagreement to begin. YHC decided to try something new to me today to ensure that all PAX chose appropriate sizes of rocks. You see…there’s been just a bit of mumblechatter recently that PAX aren’t choosing large enough rocks and that Farva could sit there and juggle with all other men’s version of “large” rocks. So each PAX were instructed to get a large rock from the familiar pile, a not as large but let’s say medium rock from the not so shiny but newer rocks down on the end of the trench, and finally, two small rocks that could be held and controlled in each hand. Each time PAX got a rock from the trench, they paid an entrance tax of 5 burpees. With rocks ready to go and circled up, we performed the following routine (rocks sizes denoted by L, M, S):

Shoulder Press, L x30, Wonderbras, M x25, 1-2’s, S x 20

Curls for the Girls, L x 30, Curls for the Girls, M x 25, 1-2’s, S x 20

Chest Press, L x 50, Alternating Merkins on Rock, M x 25, 1-2’s, S x 20

Rut Rows, L x 40, DeadLifts, M x 20, Bent over Flys, S x 20 (think it was somewhere in here where the agreement was made not to let YHC Q anymore)

Ground Pounders, L x 30, Ground Pounders, M x 25, Front Raises, S x 20

Rock Spanks w/o Consent, L x 20, Rock Spanks w/ consent, M x 20, Diamond Merkins, S x 15

PAX returned each set of rocks with a return penalty of 5, 10, and 15 merkins, respectively.

Wall of Pain time. We did a 15 count per PAX People’s Chair, followed by Prisoner squats x 50 (didn’t get to legs in rock circle). Finished up with a 10 count per PAX Ball to the Wall.

Mary: All in Cadence. LBC’s x30, Homer to Marge x25, WW1 x20, Good Mornings x 15
