Is this even safe?

EC: Pikachu, Coal Ash, Maybelline, Dawgpound, 187, Emeril, Dumbo, ShamWow! Axe M4L on the Ruck. Anyone else?

FNGs: Not today
Warm Up: Quick Mosey around the lot back to the flag, Windmills x10, 5 Burpees OYO… (Didn’t you advertise no burpees? Yes, yes I did.), Frankenstein x10, 4 Burpees, Hillbillies x10, 3 Burpees, Imperial Walkers x10, 2 Burpees, SSH x41, 1 Burpee. Let’s do this thing.
The Workout:

PAX lined up to form 2 lines of 7. Death March w/ the last runner dropping for 10 Merkins. Continued for 2 cycles which led us to the top of the road by the school.  From there, last in was Emeril and ShamWow! Where we broke for a return back to the closer lot on the right.

PAX found a space to line up side by side in a chill-cut. YHC indicated that first PAX start bunny hopping over and down the end of the line. Couldn’t start the next PAX until the previous found the end.  One cycle through.

Re-formed Death March with 5 Merkins and jail broke at the playground hill to the “bowl”.

At the bowl, YHC instructed same lines split in different directions. At the top of first hill Star Jumps x10, other hill Monkey Humpers x10. Continued until 40 count complete.

Mosey to the stairs. Squat hold for the 6.

YHC laid out the plan… First group of 7 would go down the stairs as Bear Crawl with 5 Merkins at each landing (overheard “Is this even safe?” as Pikachu darted down into the gloom) rinse and repeat back to the top. While waiting second group completed Star Jumps OYO. Switch.

Next all PAX down the stairs, return back up with Bunny Hops for each step.

Mosey back to the flag!

Mary: Squat hold for the 6 in. WWII x41, Freddy Mercury x41, Homer to Marge x10 + RL/LL, Have a ni- “we can’t not finish the last 11 right?”, Homer to Marge x11.
Announcements: 12/7 South Wake CSAUP…Details coming soon. 12/14 Holiday Party.
T-Claps (Recognition):
Prayer: Yesterday’s tragedy with 14 YO girl being struck in traffic. Unspoken. YHC took us out.

Mumblechatter on fleek

Today was brought to you by the numbers 4 & 1.

FNGs: Scared em all away.

EC: Warbucks, Emeril, 187, Dawgpound, ShamWow! (UTI ran a +2 mile route from his house to the AO)
Warm Up: Mosey around the HT Lot – Remember the route… Back to the flag, circle up. Let the Mumblechatter begin… SSH x50 (we would have stopped at 41, but that was too obvious, plus UTI and Warbucks clearly had their Wheaties this morning…). Seal Claps x10, Overhead x10, Sir Fazio x10, Seal Claps x10, Overhead x10,  The entire warm up cadence was basically inaudible with the excessive mumblechatter and 41’s thrown in versus the running counts. Not to mention YHC took a rash of shit from just about everyone. Love you guys. It truly is an honor to lead.
The Workout: Two lines of 5 formed for the Bataan Death March Indian Run. Two laps around the AO with 1 PAX dropping for 5x diamond merkins and catching all the way up to the front on lap 1. Lap 2 x10.  Back to the Flag, circle up SSH x41, Seal Claps x10, Overhead x10.

Mosey to the back lot. PAX split again into two lines of 5. 1 line on the wall, other line in front. Something like this:

Round 1 – BTTW/SSH x41 IC switch.

Round 2 – Wall Sit/Smurf Jacks x41 IC, switch.

Round 3 – BTTW/SSH x41, switch

Circle up for a short Plankorama x10: Peter Parkers, Left arm/Right arm Up, Standard Merkins

Mosey down to the dark side of HS…(The greenway behind HT and the retaining wall) – Two groups of 5 again:

Round 1 – BTTW/Diamond Merkins with a 41 count, switch

Round 2 – Wall Sit/Standard Merkins 41 count, switch

Mosey back to the flag to find Mary.

Also, if you ever wonder why I bring so many SSH’s into my Q… https://www.fitandme.com/benefits-of-jumping-jacks/

Mary: Even Harris Teeter’s “Associate #128 was calling security about the verbal hazing going on. Overhead announcement: “Security has been alerted, something something something”,  On with the show: 41 WWII, 41 Freddy Mercury, 41 LBC, Have a nice day!
Announcements: Basically a bunch of vague announcements. Maybe there is a Holiday party at some point, Maybe there is a CSAUP? Happy Birthday today to Quiver’s wife (that was about the only thing definitive).  Join me on Thursday for my actual B-Day Q at Disney…
T-Claps (Recognition): UTI for his out and back from home.
Prayer: YHC took us out

The Workout: Two teams of 6 split into Indian run around Womble baseball fields, last man 5x merkins then sprint to the front.  Proceeded to tennis courts for Average Joe’s vs. Globo Gym.  Apparently Fram used to be a professional dodge ball player, who knew!  Two teams of six competed, if you were knocked out 15 merkins, second time, 10 burpees, third time 25 prisoner squats, fourth time 10 merkins, 10 star jumps, fifth time 15 wide plank merkins and 15 monkey humpers.

Prayer: Oboe, had to put down his dog yesterday, 16 years old.  Healing, strength and continued prayers for Crab Legs and Noah’s Ark, unspoken.  Health of all PAX and those training for half/marathon’s coming up.

Everything else was spot on…

After circling up and discussing the routes, I see a few PAX make a quick stop at the shovel flag to tear off a few squares from the standard issue R4TJ tp roll. There was a lot of mumblechatter at CoT about the number of “pitstops” that were made along the various routes. Nothing like a good run to get the body flowing..

EC: Lipstick, Pikachu, Redenbacher, UTI

FNGs: None, probably went to TBD for an easy workout.

Warm Up: YHC totally butchered the first exercise and started counting off SSH without letting PAX know what the exercise was….everything else was spot on.

All exercises in cadence, 15 X SSH, 15 X Daisy Pickers and off we go.

The Workout:

A few weeks ago, UTI suggested we add a 3 mile option at R4TJ. We have had a good turnout and it is great to see some new faces coming out to get some miles in. Keep up the good work men!

3 Mile Route:

5 Mile Route:

Mary: I hear they do that at TBD if you are interested…

Announcements: Picnic this weekend, sign up to bring something. Fill up the Q sheet – it was mentioned that the F3 standard is that the number of times you post a week is the number of times you should be the site Q each month. Peer led workouts is one of the core principles of F3.

T-Claps (Recognition): Great to see some more new faces to take advantage of the 3 mile option! Good work and excellent choice raising your standard and challenging yourself with a tough run (and not taking the easy route at Womble this morning).

Prayer:  Bernie and his family, UTI’s co-worker battling cancer, Cape Fear PAX that recently passed, unspoken

YHC took us out.

Nothing But Net

YHC overslept slightly and knew he was going to miss the EC crowd. After quickly getting ready and out the door, I pull up to the stoplight and see Emeril headed toward Disney. I rolled down the window to try and convince him to follow me to Tiger Blood, but he wasn’t playing any games. He was ready to run the Disney PAX to death. As I pull into the lot at 0507, I see the EC crowd of Axe, 187, Bernie, and Lipstick just leaving , so I quickly grab my tracer and try to catch them. After a brisk half-mile sprint, I catch them as they missed turn for Gable Ridge. Bernie and Lipstick had other plans, so 187, Axe, and YHC turn back to get on track. Just before getting to Holly Springs Rd, we picked up a friendly Pokemon who surprised us when he said he was only on mile 2, not 20. So we headed back to Holly Ridge just in time to see Coal Ash swerving around trying to find the entrance to Tiger Blood. Slaughter and the 12 Oaks clown car roll up and at 0530, we’re ready to roll.

EC:

FNGs: None, the heard Emeril was Q’ing at Disney

Warm Up:
Mosey to back parking lot for:

SSH x20, The goofball x20, daisy pickers x10, mountain climbers x20, moroccan night clubs x10, seal claps x10

Mosey over near the basketball courts.

The Workout:
Thang 1 – Double 7’s

We started out with 7’s from the playground to the parking lot gate. YHC called scorpion dry docks at the playground and pistol squats, 1 each leg. Flanigan suggested we do 1 on each leg for dry docks as well, hence the double 7’s.

Thang 2 – Shoot around

Over to the basketball court to see what kind of ballers made it out to Tiger Blood. PAX lined up and did an exercise called by YHC while PAX took turns taking a shot. We began by doing 1 burpee for a miss and adding 1 after each miss. This turned out to be a terrible idea with this group. After missing the 6 or the first 7 shots, YHC decided we’d wait until the end of each round to do penalty burpees. The terrible shooting continued for 5 rounds and quite a few burpees done after each round. We had a round of horrible dunks, 3 pointers, and free throws.

Exercises done: plank hold, squat hold, plank jacks, SSH, Al Gore’s, and lots of penalty burpees.

Mosey over to the long parking lot.

Thang 3 – Merkin Shuffle + Guantanamo’s

PAX partnered up for Merkin shuffle (5 shuffle steps + increasing pattycake merkins). YHC didn’t do a good job on explaining the proper count for pattycake merkins (2 merkins = 1 count). We struggled through the count until we hit the 1st island.

We then switched to Guantanamo’s until the 2nd island, then back to merkin shuffle. YHC tried counting left, right = 1, but PAX didn’t get that either, even cadence counting didn’t work. As this fell apart, we switched back to Guantanamo’s to the 3rd island.

A sprint back to grab the basketball then mosey back to the start for Mary.

Mary:
As noted in the pre-blast, we did some spelling. PAX held a 6 inch hold and spelled the alphabet (capital letters) with both feet together. This was so much fun at Purple Cobra Tuesday, that YHC brought it back out.

Just after our spelling lesson, Bernie and Lipstick showed back up for a little Mary and CoT.

LBCs x20
Hello Dolly x20
Homer to marge x20 x10 right/x10 left
American Hammers x20

Announcements:
Picnic this weekend, Neuse River trail run Saturday (see Pikachu for details)

T-Claps (Recognition):
To all the PAX who showed up today and were unashamed to show off their terrible shooting skills.

Prayer:
Praise for Shredder’s return to the gloom, Bernie’s family, classmate’s mother who passed unexpectedly

YHC took us out.

You Show Up and So Do I…

Remember those episodes of Mr. Rodgers we used to watch as kids? They had a magic word with every episode. Later through mainstream TV in the 80’s and 90’s, shows like Saturday Night Live and Nike commercials featured Eddie Murphy and the “Admiral” David Robinson, providing parodies like Mr. Robinson’s neighborhood, where each provided comedic satire mimicking Fred Rodger’s word of the day. Well, Southwake….Today’s word of the day on this Sunday was…Ready?….ACCOUNTABILITY.

Full disclosure in this backblast in an effort to be completely transparent with PAX who continue to inspire me on a daily basis. YHC put up the pre-blast yesterday afternoon advertising a 5mi EC with a 6mi Main Event. The alarm was set for a 4:20am rise. Hit snooze twice.. Something about those 18 minutes, made YHC feel a false sense of security, knowing that I had enough time to make it to Womble in time to plant the flag and get PAX started for this morning’s run(s). As YHC finally woke, the back wasn’t feeling right. Same feeling from the week before. Surely PAX would understand if I ‘mailed it in’ this morning and decided to stretch instead of running EC. Last week I got a mile in and had Maybelline lead PAX on the designed route. In retrospect, stretching was the logical option, but after reading Aquaman’s FB post on discomfort this week, I should have planned better and ultimately would have been fine continuing on the route.

Arrived late to EC- about 4minutes. As I drove down Stinson across that set of speed bumps I know all too well from Cletus and Ivan EC, I had convinced myself that I’d plant the flag and tell LED and H1N1 that I just didn’t have it this morning.  They were the only PAX with an HC and a planned route that started at 5am heading into this morning. I had convinced myself that I would save it for the main event and even had a line…”You guys go ahead on your route. I’ll stay back and stretch and prepare for the PAX at 6am.” As I made the right into the Womble lot, I see the light up vests and headlamps. “Damn it, Mookie…If you can’t Q it, don’t do it.” And with that gentle reminder, YHC mumbled, “If you are showing up, so am I..suck it up” and pulled into the parking space next to LED’s truck. No more excuses… These guys were now waiting on YHC. It wasn’t just H1N1 and LED. We had Pikachu, Bernie, and Cupid, making a 6 pack for this morning’s EC run.

Asked LED if he had a route. He and H1N1 were doing the escape route to Ting for around 7-8 miles. Perfect. The remaining 4 would follow and circle back when we got to the Paradise City EC neighborhood. I think the last time I saw LED and H1N1 all morning was in that parking lot. Those dudes exited Stinson with a purpose and as we reached Jones onto Veteran’s Park, those light up vests faded to black. Cupid, Bernie, and Pikachu kept YHC honest. As I sat back in a comfortable 9:10 pace, I could still see them and knew if I kept them in sight, I’d be holding my own on the run. As we made our way out of Veteran’s, YHC lost them them on the ‘Boardwalk’ into the PC neighborhood. Light up vests then proceeded back toward YHC and at that point knew they reached the turn.

Made it back on the ‘Boardwalk’ and on to Veterans. Pikachu called an audible and indicated that we could bypass Veteran’s and venture toward Holly Springs Road by way of Rhamkatte Village. Also determined at that juncture to ride on the left side of Pikachu instead of behind, while also picking up the pace to be in front. Something was brewing inside of Pikachu and had enough wits to be above the fray instead of below…At that point, YHC’s back issues from earlier subsided. Guess its a part of getting older and just takes longer to warm up. Made our way through Rhamkatte and onto Holly Springs Road. Asked for a route confirmation… Do we go straight down Bass Lake to Stinson or do we get back to Womble via Holly Springs Road-Raleigh, Grigsby-Stinson?….

Neither. We ended up going Bass Lake to Earp, Left on Raleigh and then Grigsby and onto Stinson. All EC PAX arrived back to the lot and were greeted by an AGS regular- Master Shake. While YHC switched out Hokas, Pikachu made a pit stop, Cupid did some stretching, Bernie adjusted his earbuds.

And….then here it is.. just what in the hell is going on here at AGS?  In rolls DoubleD, followed by 187, Lipstick, SkidMark, Pablo, and an FNG UTI headlocked at Dunkin Donuts after the Saturday Dad’s Workout. Second FNG in 4 weeks at AGS.. Honestly, only in F3-Southwake do we see FNG’s showing up to first workouts getting 6 miles, having only run 3mi ever as their longest run prior. What’s even more impressive is that they keep showing up after and in impressive fashion.. Look at Master Shake- think he is on 4 straight weeks of AGS.

Walked over to greet Skidmark and mistakenly asked if he was ‘Getting 10mi this morning.’ His standard was vastly different than YHC’s standard this morning as he replied with a, “No Mook, I’m getting 18.” Yeah- note to self, next time YHC asks how many miles Skidmark, 187, Bernie, Pikachu, Lipstick, and Cupid are getting on a weekend day, just take the number YHC has in mind and multiple by 2….or in Pikachu’s case..muliple by 3. Good Lord, Pikachu…31 miles at 8:40 pace? Seriously? #Respect

6:00am hit and we were off with the following workout.

FNGs: Welcome, Juul!

Warm Up: Light jog around the tennis court lot. Circled up for Imperial Walkers X12, Hillbillies X12, Good Morning’s X12, Fazio Arms 12F\12B, Prison Squats X12, One extra Prison Squat with a hold for Morocan Night Clubs. One final squat hold to explain the route.

The Workout: Bernie and the additional gazelles (Skidmark, Cupid, 187, Lipstick, and Pikachu) had a planned 18 mi run, which would take them down and up Stinson, with a right onto Bass Lake, Left on Salem Ridge, Left on Linksland, and down Holly Springs onto Starbucks and the U-Turn route. YHC decided to change this morning’s planned route to mirror the first 3-4 miles of Bernie’s route so that PAX could run together for part of the way. The only exception to this morning’s 6 mi route was a slight detour within Rhamkatte for a lap and then back onto Holly Springs Road to Raleigh, Grigsby, and Stinson to the lot. Kudos to Pablo and DoubleD for picking up the six throughout the 6mi route.

Mary: Stretches OYO after the run.
Announcements: F3- Family Cookout next weekend. Sign up sheet on FB and Slack.
T-Claps (Recognition): All PAX getting quality miles this morning 6-18-31 mile distances. Also to Redenbacher, Full House, and UTI for completing a preview 1/2 marathon this morning. Also T-claps to FNG-Juul on his first workout and Master Shake for making AGS a ‘thang’ this past month.

Prayer: COT was conducted before the Main Event. Continued prayers for Pikachu’s friend, Josh whose grandmother passed last week. Continued prayers for Bernie and his family. YHC took us out.

Men- Listen up. I want you all to know that every one of you, those I’ve come to know well these past 2 years and those I’ve met a few times in the gloom..Whether you know it or not, you all continue to inspire YHC. Truth be told, I had no desire to run and workout this morning and is sometimes true from week to week. In fact, as stated earlier in this backblast, I am sometimes totally reserved to ‘mail it in.’ The power of ‘showing up’ is a real thing. It’s one thing to ‘show up,’ but it’s not just a matter of ‘showing up,’ its a matter of ‘showing up’ with intent. Every one of you showed up with the intent to make each other better this morning and every morning I make my way out of the fartsack and into the gloom. It’s what I enjoy most about morning’s in the gloom. You are the first faces I see, and the one’s YHC knows will be there in those times of discomfort (including rounds of DoubleD inspired Coyote Ugly’s) whether its in the gloom or in life. The Richmond Marathon and Holly Springs Half are just around the corner…. After what YHC witnessed this morning, there is no question…F3 Southwake is ‘Showing Up.’ Always an honor to lead on Sundays and looking forward to many more in the upcoming months.

Setting Expectations – Isn’t 25 enough?

11 PAX for what turned into serious arm work. Long 10 counts between reps, unless 187 was counting. Only hours before, I wasn’t tired, so stayed up past midnight listening to Kenny Chesney on Spotify. Considered staying up until my 4:20 am alarm time, but finally fell out around 12:30 am after settling on the workout. Was thinking about partner carries, because I had threatened to carry UTI around Cletus as an incentive for him and Breathtaker to post at Cletus. Glad that didn’t work out!

EC: 187, Yogurt

FNGs: None
Warm Up: We jumped in immediately with SSH x50. Once past 25 SSH, PAX always wonder when I will stop. Let’s just say it has to do with my 50+ #years experience. Next, bat wings 3x (10 forward, 10 backward, 20 seal claps, 20 overhead claps). Always kept arms out. PAX took turns with 10 counts between, some fast some slow. This was a challenging exercise, especially with 3x rinse and repeat. Monkey humpers 15x to start the legs.
The Workout: Mosey to wooden fencing. Derkins and squats 4x: Started with Derkins on bottom rung 10-20; squats 1-20; Derkins top rung 1-20; squats 1-20; Derkins on bottom rung 10-20; squats 1-20; Derkins top rung 1-20; squats 1-20; Derkins on bottom rung 10-20; squats 1-20; Derkins top rung 1-20; squats 1-20. Worked on squat form by holding arms out straight, eyes on fingertips, full squat with chin up and chest out. Cha-Ching liked this one. I kept him guessing on how high we were counting. Isn’t 15 enough? Maybe, maybe not. To further set expectations, I told him the workout ended at 8 am.

Mosey to the “back stretch” behind Hunt Center. Time for the partner carry. I was odd man out, so did lunge walk initially. 187 graciously gave me his spot. PAX partner carried down and back. But, did one burpee upon switching and added another burpee for every switch. We did at least three or four up-and-backs. No one opted for the wheelbarrow modification. Dodged a Hunt Center employee dumping a large potted plant that got hit by a ping-pong ball.

Mosey to dirt parking lot near horseshoe pits. Circle up for Jack Webbs: 1 Merkin/3 overhead presses to 10 Merkins/30 overhead presses. Everyone was pleased to do more arm work!

Mary: Plank, pickle pounders, chill cut, Catalina wine things, Ranger Merkins, LBCs (with feet above knees), Freddie Mercury, probably more, have a nice day!
Announcements: Check Slack. F3 SW picnic Oct 12
T-Claps (Recognition): Oboe for HC’ing to two Cletus posts; UTI for creatively funding Breathtaker for the week >$700; Breach for signing up for Breathtaker for a SIXTH time this year.
Prayer: Bernie and wife, FedEx wife knee surgery; Pilgrim recovery

Disney won Breathtaker!!!

PAX of  6 for EC and 11 for the main event decided to post at Disney, “The Happiest Place on Earth”, to find out what type of workout $105 spent on breathtaker could buy.  Thanks to Deadbolt and Midget for stepping up with the bidding to secure breathtaker.  Q was happy to see a strong showing of men this morning, especially when they could have posted at Tiger Blood for a C0-Q that was sponsored by the most hated team in the NFC East.

EC: 187, Dawgpound, Emeril, Midget4Life, Dumbo, Axe,

FNGs: None

Warm Up: All exercises in cadence: SSH x20; Imperial Walkers x20; Hillbillies x20; Sir Fazio Arm Circles.  There was a lot of mumble chatter from the PAX this morning during warm-up, so 5 burpees OYO.

The Workout: PAX lined up in two groups for an Indian run that led them through the small parking lot near the community center entrance and then around the back of the school.  Q had the group stop to do some exercises which allowed all PAX to catch up; half the PAX held BTTW while the other half did mountain climbers in cadence x20 then switch and repeat.  PAX continued in their Indian Run to the entrance area of the MCHS football stadium to do 2 sets of 10 each: Derkins, Irkins, Dips, and Box Jumps.  PAX partnered up to complete a triangle circuit of pain that included running over to a large set of steps (abyss’s step sister) and completing a set of Burpees at the bottom, running up the stairs and down the walkway to complete a set of Merkins and WWII,  then running over to and down a smaller set of stairs back to the beginning to complete a set of Star Jumps.  Reps for each exercise started at a 10 count and reduced by 1 repetition for each completed loop.  Most PAX were able to complete 6-8 loops before Q called time and headed back toward the flag.  On the way to the flag, Q stopped back at the football stadium entrance to repeat 2 sets of 10 each: Derkins, Irkins, Dips, and Box Jumps and then revisited the wall where partner#1 held “Balls to the Wall” while partner #2 did a 10 count IC of shoulder taps, partners switched places and repeat.  PAX regrouped into 2 Indian Runs back to the flag for Mary.

Mary: All exercised done in cadence: LSF x20; Homer to Marge: 10 regular, 5 right leg up, 5 left leg up; Box Cutter x20; LBC x20; Pickle Pounders x10; HAVE A NICE DAY!

Announcements: Southwake family picnic, GrowRuck registration is open but it seems Midget and are the only PAX brave enough (check out this link: F3 GrowRuck)

T-Claps (Recognition): Dumbo and Dawgpound pushing the pace during EC!

Prayer: Bernie’s Family, Shredder and his family, Crablegs, PAX brave enough for GrowRuck

Plenty of Options…

EC: Lipstick, Nemo, Redenbacher

FNGs: None

Warm Up: 10 x SSH and 10 x Daisy Pickers. Discussed the routes and headed out.

The Workout:  There was a 3 mile and 5 mile option today at R4TJ. The majority of the group ran the 5 mile route and a few PAX got some extra miles in as well. YHC  was glad to see some new faces to take advantage of the 3 mile option and I headed out with them. YHC had taken the necessary precautions prior to departing the house to ensure there was not a repeat of the DNA retention issue. I wore a red shirt though, just in case…

Mary: MIA

Announcements:  Family picnic October 12th. Check Slack and Facebook for details.

T-Claps (Recognition): Rut and Master Shake. Glad you came out for some miles and good work!

Prayer: Continued prayers for Bernie and his wife, Shredder, Crablegs, unspoken

YHC took us out. It was an honor to lead.

Where’s LED? I mean Cupid? Ah hell. I got this Q

PAX of 9 (+ 2 runners who joined us for COT) at Paradise City waited on our Q to show up. Expectations were @LED would be leading us.  Apparetnly there was a communication mix-up and @Cupid was actually supposed to run PC.   Regardless neither of them showed up so YHC took it upon himself to lead his favorite AO.  The PAX knew there would be running involved and they weren’t disappointed as we logged 3 miles doing the Nickel challenge.  Snap won with 6 repetitions.  Lucky tacked on 5.

FNGs: None

Warm Up: Jog around the soccer fields.  SSH, Good Mornings, Windmills

The Workout: Nickels:  5 burpees at bottom of the ramp.  Run to corner near tennis courts.   x5 deconstructed merkins (5 wide, 5 normal, 5 close).  Run back to ramp. Rinse and repeat as many times as you can.

Mary: 5 Burpees for Seabreeze being tardy.   Some Core and Stretching work

Announcements: See Slack

T-Claps (Recognition): N/A
