Avoiding Crop Dusters at TBD

ToBeDETERMINED reopened today with 9 pax plus a Poopeater ready to get after it! YHC and Doc collaborated to be sure we had a plan for both the workout and how to keep social distancing order among the Pax. After all, this is TBD, so YHC had 3 separate plans for work today and let the pax choose some options during warm-ups. POTS chose the number 25. Doc chose a hybrid workout (rather than running/no running), and hardy chose the track (rather than bandshell or tennis court). These choices led us to a BLIMPS workout. How’s that work??? Only YHC knows…

FNG’s: None

Warm Up: Good Mornings, Fazio Arm Circles, Frankenstein’s, Windmills, and Imperial Walkers. Mosey on over to the track.
The Workout: BLIMPS. Exercises and each of the four “corners” of the track as we successfully moseyed roughly 2.5 miles during the workout. Exercises were: 5 burpees each corner, 10 lunges IC each corner, 15 IWs IC each corner, 20 merkins each corner, 25 plank jacks, and 30 Squats each corner. YHC told various pax to call cadence on our travels and they did a fine job. Also learned an important rule…DO NOT follow Pikachu on the left…he may “crop dust” you!  Just sayin.

Groups did plank hold to wait for the six at the end…much to certain pax chagrin. Yogurt was very focused as it seemed to demonstrating a technique to Sprinkler at the last stop. A few calls of “take your time fellas” and it was back to the flag.
Mary: Only time for 20 Pickle Pounders IC
Announcements: We’re back baby!!!!
T-Claps (Recognition): Doc and his leadership as site Q showing me the ropes this week!
Prayer: Our leaders with important decisions to be announced Friday. Military and first responders. My daughter Julia, stomach virus last ten days….seems to be recovering.

So thankful… to lead, sweat, and mumblechatter alongside you mighty men!

Merkins on the Rocks

5 PAX for a hump day beat down.  Forecast was ugly but we mostly stayed dry.

EC: ShamWow and Aquaman

FNGs: Not today

Warm Up: SSH, Good mornings, Imperial Walkers

The Workout: Ran the loop around the soccer fields, taking the long way (including Ivan parking lot) to the rock pile.  Selected a rock to get good and cozy with and proceeded back to the sidewalk around the fields.  YHC has always considered 4 corners at Womble to be a solid workout – you get some distance and mix in good boot camp exercises.  Decided to kick things up a notch today by taking our rocks along, as follows:

Corner 1: 10 curlz for the gurlz
Corner 2: 10 curlz for the gurlz, 10 triceps extensions
Corner 3: 10 curlz for the gurlz, 10 triceps extensions, 10 shoulder presses
Corner 4: 10 curlz, 10 extensions, 10 shoulder presses, 10 merkins on the rocks (Any bartenders among the PAX? Seems like a good drink idea).

Repeato, but remove one exercise per corner on the trip back around.  Carrying the rocks definitely made it more difficult.

After completing two circuits we headed to the shelter for the following:
10 step-ups per leg with rock, OYO
10 curlz
10 triceps
10 squats with rocks
repeato, but this time add 20 merkins on the rocks.

Returned to the rock pile, then took the long way back around the circuit and headed to the shelter for Mary.  Got in about 2 miles altogether.

Mary: Mary-go-round with PAX that included lots of six-inch hold, lots of plank hold, a variety of standard ab exercises and then burned it down at the end with 25 merkins.

Announcements: Short discussion about COVID-19 (because really, what else is there?)

T-Claps (Recognition): @FloJo, @Hardy, @Aquaman, @ShamWow for showing up despite the miserable forecast.  Turned out that the weather was fine.

Prayer: Variety of prayers for first responders, health care professionals, everyone dealing with the effects of coronavirus, leaders, and friends and family that have significant health challenges

Looking for Some Normalcy at TBD

FNGs:  None

EC:  Deadbolt, others?

Rolled into Womble with a ton of weight in the back of my SUV, ok actually about 300lbs of iron.  Planted the flag and secretly set up the dumbbells and kettlebells at the other end of the parking lot opposite from the gathering of PAX.  Fog was thicker than pea soup.  @Deadbolt grabbed an epic picture of Old Glory.  I had a game plan in place for contingencies of 2-12 PAX showing up.  I personally was in a fog from the recent social post form the G.O.A.T. saying his goodbyes to all New England Patriots fans.  It had to come to an end at some time. I would honor him during the warmup.

Warm Up:  Nice and easy lap around Womble tennis courts and soccer pitch.  POTS was moving like a HSHS XC kid.  Nice speed!  Circled up in the parking lot for the following 12 count cadence exercises in honor of Tom Brady:

SSH, Seal Claps, Overhead Claps, Good am, Fozio Arm Circles (F/B), Ospreys (F/B), Daisy Pickers, Michael Phelps, Karaoke (alternating) to the opposite end of the parking lot.

The Workout:

PAX found the surprise of 7 sets of dumbbells and two Kettlebells on the sidewalk with index cards listing three exercises.  The exercises were broken down in 3-4 main areas:  legs, arms, abs and back/lats.

8lbs:  seal claps, overhead claps, straight front arm curls – palms down

10lbs:  American hammers, WWIIs, Straight arm Tricep extensions

15lbs:  Bus drivers, Tricep curls, Ground pounders

20lbs: Lunges, step-ups, 2 arm overhead squats

25lbs:  Curls for the girls, single arm lawn mowers, Upright rows

30lbs:  Goblet squats, while on your six, hold dumbbell over your chest while holding 6”, hello dollies

40lbs:  PAX Choice – 1 Arm, 1 ABs and 1 Leg exercise

16lb KB:  Lunges, Goblet squat, midget love handles

20lbs:  thrusters, swings, halos

Two PAX with no weights – TIME Keepers – Run around the parking lot twice.

Once the PAX completed their run, the remaining PAX rotated two positions.  EachPAX member got to do each exercise card at least once while running two separate times.

After last PAX finished running, PAX helped Dauber load his car up.

Mary:  Mosey to the tennis courts for 12 counts of pickle pounders, homer to marge and box cutters.  It appeared we had an audience of some “Golden Seniors” getting their cardio on next to us under the pavilion.  Thought those three exercises brought some of the best moves from F3 to the non-indoctrined.

Announcements:  I honestly do not remember any with all of the cancellations.

T-Claps (Recognition):  All the PAX who came out for some normalcy in the fog this morning.  And special recognition to Fanny Pack for earning a free breakfast beverage (compliments of YHC) for reading yesterday’s BB and following up with my request.

Prayer:  All of our families, especially those traveling (Pumpkin Spice’s kid flying from Chicago today).  We will get through this COVID-19 stuff.

Honor to lead – Dauber.

They Don’t Have This on the Elliptical

FNGs: Welcome HazMat, transportation manager for an industrial gas company.

On Sunday, Banana Seat noted the opportunities on the Q sheet so I jumped on it. Been almost 2 weeks since I Q’d and my fellow Masters had been killing the Q’s. My turn! I grabbed TBD with, “This will be a high-tempo workout, so you might want to rest up.” Later that day, I saw FNG HazMat and asked him which day he wanted to debut F3. His response, “Wednesday.” No I did not kill him.

Warm-up

Mosey around Hunt Center. Circle up at back corner, strategically near the top of the hill.

SSH 25x, GMs, 15x, Fozio arm circles 15x, Seal claps 15x, Overhead claps 15x.

Thang 1: Hill repeats 11s with WWIIs at bottom, Derkins at the top.

A couple of surprises along the way. Out of nowhere, POTS sprints and races Snap up the hill. Amazing! That’s what posting 5 days a week will do. Also, surprising, I got the count (mostly) right. Da Business would have been impressed!

FNG HazMat, who has been working out at Planet Fitness, notes, “they don’t have this on the elliptical.” Later, Mookie concurs that no equipment at Planet fitness can simulate hill repeats w/11’s and chasing Snap around the parking lot (or up the hill).

Thang 2: Modified Sevens at Ivan Parking Lot

Because we were well over halfway in the workout, I reduced this to two corners. PAX completed reps in multiples of seven on two corners: 7 burpees OYO; 14 low slow flutter in cadence; 21 merkins, 28 squats. Just as we got started on burpees, in roll the R4TJ crowd. Several joined us for 7 burpees (Lipstick, Banana Seat, others?, can’t remember).

Mary: Mosey back to tennis courts.

American Hammers 15x (POTS wanted 30 like he led at Purple Cobra), windshield wipers 15x, pickle pounders 15x.

Announcements: F3 Raleigh Mule Saturday

Prayer Requests: Forceps and family, protect everyone from the virus.

T-Claps: HazMat for posting and being ready to return

Java took us out with a nice prayer.

Not Your Average Hump Day In The Gloom

I was especially excited this morning. After all, I created my first F3 Shovel flag the night before and even had time to throw some camo paint on it. Got to the AO and set up shop as I stared at my masterpiece waving in the wind. I wasn’t alone though. There was a dark colored truck in the lot. Then the men’s bathroom door swung open and YHC assumed it was lipstick for sure with his IBS and all, but to my surprise it was Dahmer. Shortly afterward an unfamiliar PAX walked up as we were about to start by the name of Sea Legs. We met Mr. Kotter with greetings of welcome.

Warm up:

The Windmill X10, SSH X25, Imperial Walkers X12, The Frankenstein X10, wide squat stretch OYO for 10 count… and a mosey down to the outside corner of the soccer field.

The Workout:

B.L.I.M.P.S around the soccer field stopping at each corner for an exercise. PAX started at Corner 1 with an exercise, then moseyed along the long stretch to Corner 2,  stopped for an exercise, sprinted across the short stretch to Corner 3, stopped for an exercise, moseyed down the back stretch to Corner 4 and stopped for an exercise, before sprinting back to Corner 1.

Round 1: The “B” round…..5 burpees to start us off and a mosey to Corner 2. Five more burpees and a sprint to Corner 3. Five more burpees and a mosey to Corner 4 for 5 more Burpees before sprinting back to Corner 1…total of 20 burpees for Round 1

Round 2: The “L” round…..10 lunges for each corner with a mosey on the long stretches and  sprints on the short sides

Round 3: The “I” round….15 imperial walkers at each corner with a mosey on the long stretches and sprints on the short sides

T-Claps: Sea Legs for posting after 7 months absent

Prayer Requests: Continued prayers for Wiggly, and prayers for Forceps and his family. Prayers for all our military and their families

Curb Appeal.. 10 PAX Post to TBD for a Valentine’s Day Dress Rehearsal

Open spot on the Q-sheet and another opportunity for YHC to continue his SouthWake tour. This time through familiar territory. TBD is one of many AO’s that is operated out of Womble, the home of many memorable beatdowns and sunrises.

Though familiar territory, YHC arrived early to mark the back lot beyond the soccer fields. Planted the flag, greeted Deadbolt as he made his way to start EC along with Dahmer, who also arrived early. There were many exercises on the menu this morning. YHC pulled a Maybelline by writing them down in chalk on the pavement along with a series of marks to help PAX know where to start and stop.

Arrived back to the flag to witness a series of cars start to roll in. Pots, Java, Oboe, Cinder, Snap, Fanny Pack, and yes- a Midget sighting. After a series of fartsacks and numerous alarm malfunctions this week, he made it.

At that time, FIA started rolling in. Not sure of their workout this morning, but the amount of gear that was being carried to the picnic shelter was significant. Whatever was planned possibly included a week long trip afterwards. 5:30 hit..no FNG’s. Go Time..

Warm Up: Light jog around the lot, leading PAX to the first tennis court on the right for shuffles around the perimeter of the court, alternating lead leg on direction of the shuffle. Exited the first court and proceeded to the next for a rinse repeat and then back out to the lot, leading PAX to the far end of the lot to circle up for the following:

Imperial Walkers IC X10, Hillbillies X10, Good Mornings X10, Prison Squats X10, Bat Wings-Fazio F\B X20, Seal Claps X20, Overhead Claps X20. Mosey to the shelter single file past the FIA workout and to the left around the soccer field Indian Run style.

The Workout:

Brought PAX almost to the backside of the lot, where we converged for some lunge walks back to the speed bump in the center. Instructed PAX to find a parking spot and fill it. With each PAX occupying a parking space, they would sprint to the opposite space directly across and plank hold for the six.

Within this parking space, PAX would perform 1 burpee and mosey back to the start. Sprint back to opposite space and perform exercises in the following pattern

1 burpee, 2 curb merkins- sprint back

sprint forward (plank hold for 6)

1 burpee, 2 curb merkins, 3 derkins- sprint back

sprint forward (plank hold for 6)

1 burpee, 2 curb merkins, 3 derkins, 4 Erkins (in retrospect, pretty much the same as curb merkins)-sprint back

sprint forward (plank hold for 6)

1 burpee, 2 curb merkins, 3 derkins, 4 Erkins, 5 Dips-sprint back

sprint forward (plank hold for 6)

1 burpee, 2 curb merkins, 3 derkins, 4 Erkins, 5 Dips, 6 Nipplers-sprint back

sprint forward (plank hold for 6)

1 burpee, 2 curb merkins, 3 derkins, 4 Erkins, 5 Dips, 6 Nipplers, 7 Shoulder Taps-sprint back

sprint forward (plank hold for 6)

1 burpee, 2 curb merkins, 3 derkins, 4 Erkins, 5 Dips, 6 Nipplers, 7 Shoulder Taps, 8 Squats-sprint back

sprint forward (plank hold for 6)

1 burpee, 2 curb merkins, 3 derkins, 4 Erkins, 5 Dips, 6 Nipplers, 7 Shoulder Taps, 8 Squats, 20 LBC

Group mosey’d back to the speed bump to find the words “BEAR CRAWL” in front of them, so that’s what we did for about 25 yards to the marks YHC had chalked up earlier. At the marks, PAX continued their mosey in single file around the lot where we encountered an “X” along one of the parking spaces, which indicated the entry point for PAX to grab some curb for some curb plank shuffles. PAX proceeded in a single file plank with both hands on the curb shuffling down the line. After about 12 parking spaces, we landed on another “X,” which signified the end of the shuffles. Continued mosey, which transitioned to an Indian Run to the rock pile on the other side of the park. A quick check of the PAX, YHC noticed that we still had some trailing PAX, so instituted an impromptu set of squats while the six came in. With tight formation in tact, continued the Indian Run to the rock pile.

Instructed PAX to pick a rock that will challenge them, but nothing too crazy which would prevent them from performing 20 reps. Circled up for some arm work.

Wonder Bras X10, Curls X10, Triceps X10 (in cadence)

Rinse\Repeat X15 and X20

Indian Run back to the right side tennis court. Lined up along the long side of the court for some Jack Webbs in 1:3 ratio- Merkins and Air Presses in cadence, with a sprint intermission back and forth to the point of origin. Got to a 6:18 ratio before Midget asked when the work out was going to start..That’s when YHC knows he’s done about half the workout and coming off 3 days rest… Did one last sprint intermission and took PAX to the far end tennis courts for some balls to the wall-fence style X20 in cadence.

Circled up for Mary

Mary: Low Slow Flutter X20, LBC X20, Pickle Pounders X20, Homer to Marge X20, Regular Plank, Right Arm\Right Leg up, Left Arm\Left Leg up, Downward Dog, Left over Right, Right over Left with quality hamstring and calf stretches, and one last Good Morning for good measure. Have a nice day.

Announcements: Check Slack for 3rd F opportunities. YHC has your Q at Cletus this week- Happy Valentine’s Day
T-Claps (Recognition): Deadbolt and Dahmer on EC. All PAX for the quality effort in all phases today
Prayer: Continued prayers for Wallaby, Yousef’s son, First Responders and Military.

YHC took us out.

As I’m writing this backblast, I know we are all deeply saddened to hear the news Forceps shared today. Please keep Forceps and his family in your prayers. We are here for you, brother.

What’s the Standard F3 Penalty for…

…a whole lot of mumblechatter? Haven’t heard this much since last weekend at Ground Pounder. A new undisputed mumblechatter champion AO? We’ll see. So let YHC know I f there’s an answer to this question. The standardized penalty I used today was 10 burpees OYO. Too soft?

FNG’s: None
Warm Up: Mosey to the former Ivan lot and circle up for ( all IC) SSH x 20, Seal Claps x 10, Overhead Claps x 10, Hillbillies x 10, IW x 10, and Frankenstein x 10.
The Workout: Stop 1 on the journey to get stronger. Each of the 11 pax took turns running the loop of the Ivan lot while remaining pax did an exercise AMRAP together. When runner returns, another pax leaves to run the loop.  Pax switches AMRAP exercises. Go until all pax run their loop. AMRAP exercises were: 3 rounds merkins, 3 rounds WWII’s, 2 rounds alternate lunges, 2 rounds sumo squat jumps, 1 round of LSF’s.

Next stop, the bandstand. Pax on the grass does a 20 count of exercise IC while pax on the bandstand does BTTW. Then pax switch spots.  4 rounds of this with IC exercises being: step ups, irkins, dips, and derkins. Pax up top switched between BTTW and People’s Chair.

3rd Stop, the picnic shelter. Half the pax did continuous SSH IC while other pax “bench crawled” the picnic tables around the square. Pax switch roles. Each man bench crawled and did 50 SSH. If you don’t know what bench crawls are, Skidmark was the first Q to intro me to these.

4th Stop, there’s always rocks to throw around. YHC rotated exercises and all done IC for a total of 45 reps per exercise. Curls for the Girls, tricep extensions, squats, rut rows, and rock spanks. Mumble chatter was extensive during rock spanks. Punishment? The aforementioned 10 burpees OYO. Pax were quick to blame each other for this penalty.
Mary: Tried to get back quickly for Mary but to no avail. Time up as we entered the TBD cage
Announcements: Greenhouse build this weekend. Drop an HC or a DM to @Dumbo. @ Mookie has a goal to Q southwake everything this month. Get out to support one of this HIM’s Q’s. He’s at Tiger Blood tomorrow with a fresh routine to deliver.
T-Claps (Recognition): All the pax who counted cadence while I had my balls to the wall or otherwise occupied in my own beatdown this morning.
Prayer: Our F3 brother Wallaby and family, Pikachu’s M, relief from back pain/injury, our military and nation. YHC took us out.  Thanks my F3 brothers for taking me inside and empowering me to lead and get stronger with you.

RailRoaded At TBD

You know it’s time to start the workout when FloJo, Hardy, and Poopeater arrive. Today, they were about 30 seconds late. Ordinarily, they are exactly on time at 5:30, a just-in-time operation!

Warm-up: Mosey + Burpees

Mosey onto Stinson, stop at first parking lot, SSH 25x

Continue mosey down Stinson to Noonday, 10 burpees OYO, mosey back up to parking lot.

There’s your warm-up! Dawgpound: Why did we have to go down the hill to do those burpees? Because after Q’ing and working out at Womble for so long, we needed a different warmup.

The Thang: Railroad Tracks

After having fun with this format on Monday, I decided to continue today.

In the parking lot, each of the 12 PAX planks up on the first 12 lines. First PAX (YHC) runs to end of PAX like an Indian Run to the first open line. Plank up. Each PAX follows until we reach the end. My idea was to simply run back to the beginning from there. But, the first PAX to round the corner (Cowboy?) found a whole new set of parking spots around the corner, paralleling the first set. He started the railroad there and we returned same as we came. Bonus!

Next sets of exercises, same format: Guantanamo, 5 hand-release Merkins, WWIIs before your run to front of line. PAX holds 6 inch while the one PAX does WWII.

Mr. Clarity (i.e., Pablo) kept asking questions, claiming that he was just seeking clarity. Seemed suspiciously like he was trying hi-jack my Q! Indeed the Fritter Goobers brought more chatter to this parking lot than it has heard since the last installment of Ivan.

Balls to the Wall by Request:

Sprinkler and POTS were disappointed we did not do BTW on Monday. So, making sure not to disappoint, we moseyed to the amphitheater. OK, so Sprinkler was genuinely happy to have this exercise, pretty sure he could go 5 minutes. POTS was not as pleased.

Upon finishing up the WWII railroads, PAX moseyed one-by-one down to the amphitheater and took People’s Chair position on the wall. First round 10 second count by each PAX. FloJo is now famous for his I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X counting method.

Mary: American Hammers, pickle pounders, LBCs, etc.

Announcements: Check Slack

Prayer Requests: Sprinkler and his family as they lay his father to rest today. Dawgpound safe air travels. FloJo as his family considers adoption.

Pebbles to boulders

FNGs: Not likely at 24 degrees

Warm Up: SSH, Daisy-pickers, Fazios, Flapping Birds, Imperial Walkers

The Workout: Too cold to stand around Womble, so YHC decided a field trip was in order.  Set out in a fellowship run and (taking a page out of Aquaman’s book) stopped at each intersection to build a workout, exercises = PAX choice.

Stop 1 = 10 merkins
Stop 2 = 10 merkins + 6 burpees (POTS birthday choice)
Stop 3 = 10 merkins + 6 burpees + 10 lunges
Stop 4 = 10 merkins + 6 burpees + 10 lunges + 10 monkey humpers

Proceeded to the parking deck for some ‘forest to the sea’ (bear crawl followed by crab walk) and then moseyed on to the rock pile.  PAX informed to select a ‘medium to large’ rock.  YHC noted an extremely liberal interpretation of that size range; seemed like pebbles to boulders.  PAX executed ‘Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes’ (deadlift into biceps curl into shoulder press into triceps extension = 1 rep X 10).  Moved three rocks to the right for PAX choice exercises including curlz for the gurlz, shoulder press and bus driver.  Returned the rocks for the mosey back.

On the return route PAX stopped at each intersection for ab exercises, building as before:

Stop 1 = 10 gas pumpers
Stop 2 = 10 gas pumpers + 10 pickle pounders
Stop 3 =  10 gas pumpers + 10 pickle pounders + 10 snow angels (Florence demonstrated admirable enthusiasm during cadence call, and neighborhood residents are now aware of F3).
Stop 4 = 10 gas pumpers + 10 pickle pounders + 10 snow angels + 10 plank jacks

Mary:Completed the mosey back to Womble for some smurf jacks.  YHC was due for an early morning meeting, so handed the keys to Dauber and he brought it home with WWIIs, Freddie Mercurys and yoga stretches.

Announcements: Happy birthday POTS!  51 big ones.  See social media re helping at Mama’s House

T-Claps (Recognition): The Masters for joining up again for a full beatdown, no Metamucil required.

Prayer:  Alex, family friend of Florence with cancer, military, first responders, unspoken.

Thanks for the opportunity to lead.  Aye!
