Another One Bites the Dust

Great crowd for a morning workout at To Be Determined. 9 determined PAX took care of business with the heart of the workout being a musical Dora. A variety of songs were chosen and when a song ended, the associated exercise ended and a new exercise was performed throughout the next song. As one of my favorites came on, Another One Bites the Dust (By Queen), I couldn’t help but think of those poor souls that could not overcome the fartsack this morning. For some, they didn’t hear their alarm clock go off and perhaps for others their MOPED ran out of gas.

FNGs: None

Warm Up: SSH X 20, Frankenstein X 10, Imperial Walker X10, deep groin stretch for a 10 count, SFA X10 clockwise and counter clockwise

The Workout: Started with an Indian run around the soccer fields and to the amphitheater. PAX counted off by 2, the ones completed 10 Catalina Winemixers while the Twos performed Balls tot he wall. Then switch. Next round the ones completed 20 merkins while the twos performed peoples chair. Rinse and repeat. Then mosey to the pavilion where we partnered up. YHC had some pre-selected jams and a portable speaker (played softly so as to not disturb the peace). Exercises at play were Derkins, Dips and monkey humpers. One partner did an evolution of man up the pavement (bear crawl, then lunge walk then sprint) while the other Pax did AMRAP. When the PAX returned, they switched. When the song ended, PAX moved onto the next exercise.  Then a mosey to the tennis courts for Mary.

Mary: Not much time left so we did LBC X20 and another LBC X10 with a 1o count hold on each crunch.

Announcements: LAR – Check slack for Skidmarks post about the upcoming Long Arse Run, 3rd meeting with some discussion about potential 2021 Shieldlock and some pax gave insights into their experiences with the previous Shieldlock which was good because we had a few PAX that are new to F3. Also check slack for some volunteer work at Holly Springs food cupboard.

Prayer: Fanny pack for taking a professional development journey with eyes on potentially being a principle one day

Your Doctor Must Not Do F3

A chilly morning that got warmed up in a hurry today at TBD. A certain PAX made an appearance in the Gloom today stating that he may have to modify, based on some doctor’s orders for a recently completed procedure. Technically, the care document he was given stated no physical exertion for 2 weeks, another PAX stated, “Well, your doctor must not do F3.” At times, F3 workouts, accountability, and brotherhood does make you feel superhuman. YHC was determined to pull out a few new exercise routines that I haven’t Q’d up before. However, YHC also vastly underestimated the amount of running to be completed at the workout in the pre-blast. Sorry fellas…please come see us at TBD again!

FNG’s: none
Warm Up: Everything x13. Good Morning’s, Frankensteins, Seal Claps, a quick mosey to the other parking lot, Overhead Claps, Sir Fazio’s (F/R), and Daisy Pickers.
The Workout: Here’s where I underestimated the distance and called a shorter run audible about midway through the routine. 11’s the long way in the parking lot. On one end, it was FoxHole Merkins (a WWI on the UP, a roll, and a hand release merkin on the UP…that’s 1.) The other end was Imperial Squat Walkers.

Next Up…we would do a Agility Ladder routine where YHC brought the fast feet ladder and some cones. Each PAX got a turn performing the routine of fast feet in and out in all squares of the ladder, followed by a quick side shuffle between cones, stopping at each one for an up/down. On each end, as PAX waited, we did Shoulder Taps IC and other other end we did LSF’s IC. We did this until all PAX got their turns in. PAX helped snatch up the toys and we moseyed over to the tennis court.

We assumed the People’s Chair position and waited until all PAX returned followed by a 10 count for all PAX. On to Jack Webbs 1/3 ratio. We started at 7 Merkins and counted down to 1. Final routine was about 70 seconds of continuous squats. Have a nice day!
Mary: Built into the routine.
Announcements: Monthly Fitness Challenge and channel on Slack…not too late to join and catch up!
T-Claps (Recognition): All the PAX for staying strong and no complaints despite false advertising by YHC.
Prayer: Continued recovery for my M and M of 187. Bondo stepped up to take us out.

Let’s Go Treasure Hunting

YHC decided to take the PAX up and around Ting Park this morning and hunt for some “treasure” along the way.  Over the past 3 weeks I’ve found 2-$20 bills, a quarter, and a few pennies while running.  I had found a baseball in the Ting Park parking lot running for some EC the day prior and I’ve also found a couple of tennis balls at Ting in the upper backside parking lot near the tennis courts over the past month or so.  I run through Ting Park at least 2-3 times a week and afterwards I’ll usually pass the front of my neighborhood before jumping on the Crossways route off of Main St and I’ll toss the tennis ball or baseball at the front of my neighborhood and retrieve it later in the morning while walking my dog.  We didn’t find anything at Ting Park today but YHC found a penny on the way there and then @Cupid and I found a couple of pennies in the Womble parking lot post-workout.  I’m always looking for 2 things while running: treasure and the infamous white albino deer.

The Workout:

It was a celebration week for Sprinkler.  He had his 1yr F3 anniversary this week and turned the big 50 today.  RESPECT!  What better way to celebrate than an F3 party!  41 STRONG today.  Nice showing F3Southwake, way to end the HS Q-Duel week!!!

Count off by 2’s and divide up.

1’s with Sprinkler and 2’s with YHC:

1’s stayed in place for Round 1 11’s , 2’s headed to the lot by the Rock Pile for Round 2 11’s

Well the plan is below, but since we split up I can’t speak for both groups.  I can say that there were a lot of bear crawls for the 2’s and a lot of modifying on the fly (for time!).  I heard group 1 got in a lot of Bear Crawls also and that was the main plan; so all went well.  The surprise for me was the Pavillion intermission which turned out to be a beast!  We had a Round 3 planned just in case, but not a chance on that one!  I’m sharing and saving the workout below because I would like to complete it as written sometime.  It’s a great start to a CASUP if you ask me!

We even had an FNG today.  Welcome Fanta, from San Diego and use to work for Pepsi!

What the Ruck!

Hilltop NeedMore Ruck. We were off at 6:00 am. 6 PAX showed to endure the heat. It was hot!!!

FNG: None

Warm Up: The RUCK

The Workout: We hit the Red Trail first for 2.2 miles which is always my favorite. We lost one that had other obligations so off to the yellow for 2.1 miles. Last but not least the blue for .6 miles. We circled the old club house to make it a complete 5 miles. If you have never done this….it’s a great way to catch up with F3 family you normally don’t see every day. You do not have to own a Ruck pack. Plenty of guys have a back-pack and weights inside. Come out and join us next week as we will Ruck a little over 8 miles and deliver food to Momas House of Thrift.

6 Year Anniversary Gala at Cletus

Wow – 6 years.  When I first gave into the 18 month long headlock by Gnard Dogg from Raleigh – I remember telling my M that “maybe this will be good – I can catch a Friday workout a few times a month to change up things for me at the Y (Sad Clown).  Little did I know that 6 years later, I would have accomplished the following:

  • Probably 1,000 posts
  • 7 half marathons completed
  • 2 Blue Ridge Relays
  • Maybe 3,000 miles of running
  • 10+ CSAUPs
  • 100+ Q-ed workouts
  • Hundreds of Clown Car rides
  • Stronger Marriage and relations with my kids
  • Major advances in my career / leadership (I accredit some of this to F3)
  • Countless memories with hundreds of new friends

WOW

Rolling into the parking lot at Cletus, Mookie and I got a little concerned.  On the way over in the clown car, we discussed what we would do if we had more than 25 Pax.  I did not want too many in our group(s) given Covid.  I quickly discussed what I had planned to Mookie as we drove over.  I remember him looking at me like “Are you crazy?”

As it became obvious that the Pax count would be near 40 – we decided to go with the Audible and split the pax.  I am very glad we did.  T-Claps to Mookie for the co-Q

FNGs:  None – Shovel flag planted at 5:29
Warm Up: Got things started with a mosie down to the field near the small pavillion.  The one we always warm up in when the crowds are big

  • Hand Release Burpees x 5 (OYO)
  • Good Morning x 10 (IC)
  • SSH x 20 (IC)
  • Moroccan Night Clubs x 20 (IC)  – note:  no one of Moroccan decent was offended with this reference
  • Mountain Climbers x 20 (IC)
  • Hell – it’s time to go

The Workout:

Pax of 38 was split into roughly half.  Mookie too one to the lower field and YHC kept the other half up top at the Soccer field.  It went down like this

Thing 1:  The Elle McPhereson

The Split pax on the soccer field would split again into two groups.  Groups would perform exercises on duct taped sheets in two (2) of the four corners (diagonal from each other).  Group 1 would sprint 50% around the track while Group 2 did the exercises.  Group 2 does AMRAP until all of Group 1 makes it to the opposite corner.  Group 1 would signal with a “yell” for Group 2 to stop the reps and run the same direction (clockwise around the field to them).  This was repeated for 20 minutes while the other Pax was down on the field.  Basically we were looping the 1/2 miles around the soccer field.

Group 1 (Arms and Chest)

  • Burpees
  • Wide Grip Merkins
  • Carolina Dry Docks
  • Diamond Merkins

Group 2 (Legs and Abs)

  • Jump Squats
  • WW1
  • Star Jumps
  • Mountain Climbers

Thing 2:  “The Michigan”

This workout was from the original scrolls of Southwake.  It was named by a Ohio State fan.  “Because it sux”.  The pax gathered on the end line of the soccer/football field.  All we did was sprints and Jack Webbs.  It went like this

  • Ten – 100-yard dashes +  2 Hand Release Jack Webbs (2 hand release merkins and 8 halleluiahs)
  • Eight – 80 yard dashes + 4 Hand Release Jack Webbs
  • Six – 60 yard dashes + 6 Hand Release Jack Webbs
  • Four – 40 yard dashes + 8 Hand Release Jack Webbs
  • Two – 20 yard dashes + 10 Hand Release Jack Webbs

That went on for 20 minutes – it was a smoker

The 2 groups converged on the North Tennis Courts for Mary and COT

Mary:

  • LBC Ladder (IC)
