The Workout:Ā  All exercises were performed with an I/C 3 count on the positive and neg muscle contraction. 20 count or 10 reps for 99% of exercises.Ā  5 burpee penalty if you dropped your rock without the Q’s direction..cough cough Yogurt, Bleeder.Ā

Comparing rocks

FNGs: none

Warm Up: SSH, Daisy pickers, imperial walkers, 5 burpees, hillbillies, Sir Fazio Arm Circles, seal claps, overhead claps

The Workout: We moseyed over to the rock pile where PAX were instructed to get a mediumish rock for a good deal of reps. We circled up at the amphitheater.

Curls for the girls in cadence x30, Tris for the guys in cadence x30, ruh rohs in cadence x30, squats x30, WWIIs x30. Dropped the rocks and did a bear crawl down the sidewalk to the library door then mosey back.

Round two was the same but the counts dropped to 20. Round the saw counts of 10. Returned our rocks and moseyed around to the semicircle parking lot.

PAX lined up on their six for Guantanamos. We got two rounds in as we went almost all the way around the semicircle. On our way back to the start, we lunge walked past the book drop-off.

Warm Up: Quick Mosey, SSH, Windmill, 10 Merkins. Another mosey

Thang 1:

7s on Cemetery Hill: Squats at the bottom, Burpees at the top. (The Humidity was worse than the hill)

For the last round of each we added a twist.Ā 

After completing our last burpee, PAX circled up for a 1 at a time 10 count merkins around the circle. While each PAX pushing the earth down, the other PAX held a low merkin position (similar to a plank, but the bottom of a merkin).Ā 

After completing the last six squats, PAX circled up for a similar exercise as the the top of the hill, only this one featured squats/squat hold.

Thang 2: All PAX moseyed back to the flag, with a quick stop along the way for some calf raises and dips along the curb. We then visited the small rock pile in the corner of the parking lot for some rock work. Colt 45s, Groundpounders and Goblet Squats. We then circled up for a game Q called ‘Duck Duck Bear’: in a circle, each PAX held a bear crawl position (knees low, waist at a 90 angle). In sequence, a PAX would circle the group while performing a bear crawl, the remainder held still. Hold until all have completed a circle. @Batboy made sure to call out “Duck” as he passed each person.

The Workout:

Circuit One: 3×17 SSH/Mountain Climbers/LSF

Lap around library

Circuit Two: 3×17 Durkins/Urkins/Dips

Circuit Three: 2x Colt ā€œ51sā€ /Bolt ā€œ51sā€ / Triceps (17 count) w medium size rockĀ 

Circuit Four: 2×51 count Peopleā€™s Chair and BTTW. Modified w Australian Ass Smackers if desired.

Mosey back to the flag

Mary: Round of 10 count in cadence abs: LBC, AH, H2M, Air Bender, Hundreds. Finished w hamstring and runners stretch.Ā

39 is the magic number

YHC came out to be the conductor at Downtown Train after a funfilled weekend celebrating my 39th birthday. The number 39 was in play throughout the workout. UFO pulled lots of PAX in, but 3 HIM showed up to help me wear off the birthday hangover.

Warm Up: SSH x 39, Sir Fazio Arm Circles F/R, Seal Claps, Overhead Claps, Good Mornings, Imperial Walkers, Hillbillies, Moroccan Nightclubs

The Workout:

We moseyed over to the amphitheater for 3 rounds, 6 exercises, 13 reps to total 39 reps of each exercise.

Mixed up some of the ab work along the way to keep things fresh.

First round was Dips, Derkins, Step ups, high plank hold 13 count each PAX, BTTW 13 count each PAX, people’s chair 13 count each PAX.

Second round was Dips, Derkins, Step ups, chillcut plank hold 13 count, BTTW 13 count, people’s chair 13 count.

Third round was Dips, Derkins, Step ups, low slow flutter IC, BTTW 13 count, people’s chair 13 count.

We moseyed over to the rock pile for 3 rounds of exercises with rocks, added an exercise each round. Again 13 of each for a total of 39 was the magic number.

First round: Chest press, skullcrushers, curls for the girls, ruh rohs, wonderbras

Second round: Chest press, skullcrushers, curls for the girls, ruh rohs, wonderbras, goblet squats

Third round: Chest press, skullcrushers, curls for the girls, ruh rohs, wonderbras, goblet squats, bus drivers…to which there was much complaining.

Note: Wild Turkey also let out a thunderous bellow from his bowels during this set…poor Plunger was beside him and downwind…mentions of Bobby Boucher’s absence and possible Tex Mex #2 explosion explaining said absence…

Warm Up: Mosey around the parking lot doing parking lot line agility drills
The Workout:

Football quick feet merkin, pass completion progression, parking lot suicides

Start on the first parking lot line, all pax do quick feet for a 4 count rep following by 1 merkin. Then one pax stays the next runs up to the first line, cuts right and must catch the ball to progress to 2 quick feet merkins. Switch pax and they go up to 3 etc. any time the ball is dropped you start back at 1 until you complete the parking lot.

Rinse and repeat back but cutting left

The Workout: YHC is all about functional exercises, stuff that can come in handy day-to-day. While we may not see any combat in our daily routines, the Army Combat Fitness Test‘s recommended exercises will surely lead to better results when playing with the kids or tackling that honey-do list. I picked out a few and modified them to make them more F3 Southwake-friendly.

1ish mile run (figure 8)

Sprint down the parking lot, mosey back.
Repeat 2 more times for a total of 3.

Rock Bear Repeat

FNGs: none (Lawn Dart doesn’t count)
Warm Up: SSH, Windmills, Imperial Walkers, Hillbillies, Fozio Arm Circles / Seal Claps / Overhead Claps
The Workout: Mosey over to the rock pile. PAX were instructed to get a mediumish rock and line up on one end of the parking lot. It went like this:
Curls for the girls x30, Triceps x30, Ruh Rohs x30, Squats x30.
Bear crawl to the end of the parking lot, mosey back to start.
Repeat, reps reduced to 20. Down and back.
Repeat, reps reduced to 10. Down and back.
Returned the rocks and moseyed to the picnic shelter.

At the picnic shelter, we took a break with People’s Chair. 10 count down the line for a total of 70 count. Recover.
Balls to the Wall, 70 count. Recover.
Repeated both one more time, then moseyed back to the tennis courts.
Mary:At the tennis courts, everyone picked their favorite exercise for a round of popcorn Mary. Then YHC wrapped things up with a little yoga stretching.

Getting Dirty at The Nut

It’s always great to come back to The Nut where YHC once had the honor of being site Q. It was good to see some of the usual suspects including a few new(ish) guys YHC hadn’t met.

Dahmer was the first on the scene and ready to roll for some EC so the two of us headed out and quickly ran into the 12 Oaks crew doing EC. Great work!

The Workout:

The Main Event was a “Dirty McDeuce” which consisted of 4 stations with 3 exercises at each: 1 arm exercise, 1 leg exercise, and 1 ab exercise for a total of 12 exercises. Pax counted off into groups of 4 and since there were 12 of us, it worked out perfectly to have 3 HIM per group. Each group went to the station corresponding to their number to begin the workout. Traveling between stations was done by jogging a full lap around the parking lot. Round 1 was 10 reps for each exercise, round 2 was 15 reps, and since time was running short, we went back to 10 reps for round 3. All groups completed all three rounds and then we went straight into…

66% Shirted at the mini Murph

FNGs:Ā  Welcome Strat-eee-gery

Warm Up: Good Mornings, Windmills, SSH, Goofballs, Frankensteins, Squats

The Workout:Ā  Murph.Ā  Well… whatever we can squeeze into a 45 min workout.

Started with the traditional 1 mile run by completing the figure 8 around Womble.

Paired off into accountability partners.Ā  YHC cut the normal count of 100 pull-ups, 200 merkins, and 300 squats in half.Ā  Each PAX aimed to complete half of the normal Murph.Ā  The count was done OYO with YHC supplying headlocks and mumblechatter throughout.

I regailed the PAX with a memory of one of my first Cletus workouts where a Murph was declared as the workout.Ā  It was intimidating and so hard back then.Ā  This wasnt easy today but it was certainly easier than it was on one of my first workouts.Ā  Keep coming back, get stronger, beat yesterday, <enter your cliche inspirational message here>

Once PAX completed their reps – we mozy’d around the soccer field and back around to the playground.Ā  The TBD tribe then mozy’d back to the main lot for Mary.
