Not Shorts Weather Yet

Yet another small group of HIM’s decided to get stronger on a damp – and still too cold for shorts – morning.

It didn’t take long to get warmed up though. The last 2 PAX rolled in with a couple minutes to spare and then we got down to it promptly at 5:30.

 

Warm Up:

Frankensteins x 10 IC
Hillbillies x 10 IC

The Workout:

Mosey to stop 1: Derkins x10 IC
Mosey to stop 2: Dips x10 IC
Mosey to stop 3: Irkins x10 IC
Arrive at the hill where most of the fun will happen…
The PAX decided they would rather rip off the bandaid than be left in suspense so YHC explained the plan prior to diving in. PAX also opted for declining rather than ascending reps for each round as described below…
Round 1:
– 15 big boy sit ups at the bottom of the hill
– Run up the hill
– 15 squat jumps at the top of the hill
– Mosey to the wheelchair ramp (of doom): 15 traveling merkins IC/ switch to 15 traveling dips IC
– Lunge walk, then Bear Crawl to the bottom of the ramp
– Mosey back to the bottom of the hill
Round 2: Rinse and repeat: 10 reps each exercise
Round 3: rinse and repeat: 5 reps each exercise
Mosey back to the school with Mary stops along the way…

Mary:

Stop 3: LBC’s x 15 IC
We returned to the parking lot at exactly 6:15. Not too shabby. Unlike most of us prior to discovering the benefits of F3.

Flying Cupids & Dancing Rocks

11 PAX braved the damp and cool gloom for a virgin Q – and hopefully a proper beatdown.
Cupid flew in at the last moment after the other HIM’s slowly emerged from the warmth of their respective vehicles as though they could foresee the “fun” that awaited them.

The Workout:

Head to the rock pile to get a moderately sized rock suitable for lifting multiple reps.

Rock Exercise 1: Rock-a-bye-baby x 15 IC (up, out, left twist, right twist = 1)
Lunge walk to the island (of misfit toys) – Merkins x 10 OYO – run back to your rock – squat hold or hold plank for the 6
Rock Exercise 2: Curls for the Girls x 20 IC
Lunge to island – 10 Merkins – run back
Rock exercise 3: Tricep Extensions x 20(ish) IC
Lunge to island – 10 Merkins – run back
Rock exercise 4: Ruh Roh’s x 20(ish) IC

Two young guys who have committed suicide recently – lift up their families and friends — Don’t struggle alone or let anyone struggle alone. Reach out to guys you haven’t seen in a while and let them know they are missed.

At least this day was built on the rock – quite literally – which made all of us stronger and less likely to get knocked over…once the soreness subsides.

What’s Valentine’s Day without Cupid?

Ok, finally figured this out so let’s give it a shot.  Thanks to Gump and Banana Seat for the guidance and instructions.  FYI, don’t try viewing the tutorial in Firefox.

Pax of 9 show up including 1 FNG (Cupid) – Thanks for coming out and supporting me on my first Q.  This is a great group of men that I was proud to lead (yesterday).

Warm Up: 1 lap around the track then circled up for 20 SSH, 10 Good Mornings, 10 Daisy Pickers, 10 Imperial Walkers, and 10 Hillbillies

The Workout: Starting at the south side of the parking lot, 20 WWII, 10 Erkins; Bear Crawled to the north side of the parking lot, 20 squats, 10 diamonds; Crab Walked back to the south, 20 LBC, 10 Burpees; Duck Walk back to the north, 20 Star Jumps, 10 Merkins; Alternating Lunges back to the south, 20 Mount Climbers, 10 Shoulder Taps.

Moseyed over to the concession stand for Balls to the Wall while each PAX took turns doing a lap around the building. Followed by Seated Chair while PAX again each took a lap.

Strava Stalking

13 men got stronger at U-Turn on Saturday morning. Aquaman couldn’t remember all the names so I did my best strava stalking to capture the Pax.

Kenny’s Grave was nice a warm for a February morning. Some old faces showed up, always good to see those cotters. YHC had no clue what to do for today’s workout. Ended up having too much material so we will save that for another day of punishment. Anywhoo, if you weren’t there you missed a good one.

Warm up with a lap around the track

Main Event:
Partner up, grab 1 good sized rock of your choice per group. Mosey over to cones and ladders in back of parking lot.

P1 runs course of cones and ladders with 5 burpees at half way point, then runs other side of course back down. Facing field during round 1, then forward facing rds 2 and 3.
P2 performs exercise with the rock then switch once P1 returns
100 – WWII’s
200 – rut rows (back straight, looking up)
300 – curls (no swinging) R22 has a new curl style nearing the end.
Plank jacks AMRAP at the end of each exercise for the six before starting next round. Time was running short so YHC will save the second part of today’s beatdown for next week. John Cusack for those with rocks back to the pile and those empty handed did hallelujahs on the mosey.

Fire Dept Fun

PAX of 7 on this 20 degree brisk morning in the gloom. YHC wanted to switch things up a bit. Everyone stayed in their vehicles until 1 min to go taking advantage of the seat warmers. 5 PAX started and 2 joined soon after. Here’s the damage.

Bat wings x20 each IC (forward arm circles, hold, Reverse, hold, seal claps, hold, overhead) This one gets the shoulders on fire.

Indian Run with 5 merkins at back before running to front of line
– Stopping at rails for derkin ladder OTW. Upper rack, middle rack, lower rack 10 each.

Once we arrived to our destination we paused under the flag pole to say the pledge of allegiance. Fire Dept was quiet assuming everyone was cat napping.

Fire drill – circle up, chop/high knee, each pax calls “fire”. Drop, roll right, merkin, roll left, merkin, back up choppin.

Four PAX showed for a “wing it” beat down by YHC. Sometimes you are not sure what you want to work out but veteran Q’s should be able to easily show up and deliver. This is how it went.

Warm Up:
Jog around the parking area with some carioca’s, high knees and butt kickers.
Square up for warm up exercises.
SSH x40 IC (speed up after 25)
Windmill x15 IC
IW x15 into HB x15 IC
Lower body stretches into upper body stretches

The Workout:
Pair up. Mosey over to the blacked out baseball diamond.
Round the bases with partner carry. Switch partners back at home plate.
Wheel barrow around the bases. Switch as needed. Repeat so each PAX completed the bases. Squat hold for the six.

You know I’m all about that base…
Broad jump to advance to each base with an exercise together at each.
1st base – 20 Merkins (good form)
2nd base – 20 Plank Jacks IC
3rd base – 25 Gorilla squats
Home – celebrate with 10 burpees OYO (good form)

Rinse and repeat but advance with lunge walk

Improv – Headed to dugout in the lower field where pull up bars are located
Partner 1 does 5 pull ups while P2 AMRAPs dips on bench. Switch. 4 rounds of each

The Workout:

Weather 50 raining decided to use shelter.

Work: 20 Step ups each leg, 20 Dips, 20 Erkins

Partner up for this workload. 300 LBC, 200 Squats, 100 Merkins  and yes 100 Burpees. When finished help the sixth. After completion we celebrated by bear crawling all the way around the shelter.

Mary:

Did more dips on my count see how low you can go, low slow flutter, Elkins IC called by Messi.

Pax on 4 learned a new type of pain this morning; Norm,  Martini, Dovetail, & Shredder

Warm Up: Dovetail took the warm-up with some dynamic stretching, sumo squats with a twist, Carolina Dry Docks, squats with knee raise twists, Indian run to the back, and a cool breathing core drill.

The Workout: striking (160 total), wedging, dips, lunges, erkins (wide, military, diamond) – 2 sets,  step ups w/ knee raises, Frankensteins, and pressure point manipulation (cheek and Horse Bite).

Prayer: Martini’s mom’s health and new baby on the way.

R22 Virgin Q

R22 lost his virginity at Kenny’s Grave this morning. 10 PAX got to witness how it unfolded. Wouldn’t say it was glorious but there was a lot of sweat. The refrigerant couldn’t keep things cooled off for long. Here’s how things got heated quickly.

Warmup: Mosey around baseball field and around community center to the basketball court. SSH-20 IC, GM-10 IC, Fazio arm circles forward and reverse 10- IC, Cotton pickers with back clap 20-IC.

Workout: Mosey to start and finish line.
5 Burpees, 10 SSH, Sumo Squats, Merkins then sprints.
5 Burpees, 20 SSH, Sumo Squats, Merkins then sprints.
5 Burpees, 30 SSH, Sumo Squats, Merkins then sprints.
5 Burpees, 40 SSH, Sumo Squats, Merkins then sprints.
5 Burpees, 50 SSH, Sumo Squats, Merkins then sprints and then 10 Burpees when you get back to finish line.
Pickup the 6.
That was a total of 35 burpees, 150 SSH, Sumos and merkins each.
