Circle of Abs

Who needs abs anyway! Well, we all do and I can promise you the more water that has passed under the bridge for some of us fellas the more difficult it is to keep that core in check. With that in mind these last couple of days I decided to focus on core work as Q today for the not yet named TBD there in the Holly Rock. Arriving a little early set up 4 four stations with cones in the back parking lot then drove on around to find several vehicles in the parking lot but only one other PAX there waiting. Planted shovel flag and within 4-5 minutes of go time the rest of PAX either ran & rolled in.

Evenutally each PAX in the circle of Abs will lead an ab exercise or two. Station 1 is the timer who starts off with 3 burpees and then carries 2 tall five gallon buckets with 2 cinder-blocks in each bucket a 100 meters, drops buckets for 3 more burpees and then returns to base. Rotation takes place when bucket carrier returns to base. Station 2: jump ropes, Station 3: 40lb. barbell thrusts, Station 4: Battle rope arm swings.  Remaining Pax are on their six in the Circle of Abs and 1 rotates to the stations each time the bucket carrier returns. All PAX were able to get through all 4 stations at least once, some more so. After last PAX worked his way through all 4 stations we then split up and circled the parking lot in opposite directions to meet and complete 10 broke back derkins each. Met back at the stations to form one line of PAX across the parking lot on one parking space line. Core Principles

South Wake has a new champion when it comes to worn out shoes. Yogurt comes rolling in at 5:28 with what appeared to be remnants of a pair of Brooks or Asics. Toes were protruding through the toe box and the sole barely attached, flapping away as he ran. Less than ideal running shoes, perfect shoes for the weather; yet Yogurt lets out an “OH MAN’ when splashed with water leading us to believe he brand new shoes were ruined.

EC: Pikachu, Aquaman, Katniss, Skidmark

T-Claps (Recognition): The 5 other guys that posted and allowed me to lead.

Prayer: Bernie and his family.  Great to see Shredder back out recently.

More of a 3rd F than a prayer but YHC brought up that we don’t forget why we come out and what F3 does for us which is why I like to include the mission and core principles into the workout. Unfortunately, today I ran out of time during Mary because I was going to ask Pax while they were holding Plank what F3 means to them. We always talk about picking up the 6 when we are running but do we get the 6 at other points in other aspects of life. If I ask a Pax what is the mission of F3 South Wake and they don’t know, does someone jump in and help them out, do we offer guidance, encouragement, or do we allow them go at it alone, arms tired, struggling to get breath, and then the Q asks them to think clearly and talk. F3 is more than a workout. It’s about body, mind, and spirit. If you read this backblast please comment on Slack under 3rd F the Pax most influential to you, the guy who always seems to pick you up, if they know it or not. Aye!

Solid TBD beat down by @Double D this morning.  @Doc – still recovering – is pinch hitting on this backblast and will no doubt miss some details, but let’s roll.

First nice cool morning of fall.  13 HIMs gathered, waited patiently until 5:30 for The Natural (HC – must’ve had a flat on the way over), then got busy.

Warm Up: Smurf jacks (knew he was serious when this was his opener), Moroccan Night Clubs, Imperial Walkers, Fazio Arm Circles, Hillbillies, Burpees, Brokeback Durkins, probably other things.

Stage 8: Partner wheelbarrow up and down steps

Round Robin

FNGs: Nope

Guest drivers (Snap, ShamWow and Quiver) borrowed the TBD car the last few weeks and returned it each time in better shape than when it left.  Felt good to have the keys back again this week and glad to have a PAX of 7 along for the ride.

YHC pulled into the Womble lot at 0522 to find UTI and Yogurt limbering up and looking serious.  Did some quick re-figuring and added reps to my internal playbook before coralling the rest of the troops for a mosey over to the Ivan lot.  Cool breeze suggested we might have a nice morning queued up; no dice.  Sweat pool commenced by the end of warm up and UTI was in full swim mode by the end.

Warm Up: Mosey to Ivan lot for smurf jacks, daisy pickers, Nancy Kerrigans (good twist on Fazio arm circles, look it up), flappy birds, seal claps.  Mosey (with reverse, carioca, and ray-gu-LAR) the long way around to the playground for Thang 1.

The Workout:
Thang 1: Round Robin.
Round 1: One PAX does 10 pull-ups and assigns an exercise for the remaining PAX to do while pull-ups are happening.  Rotate through all PAX.
Round 2: ditto, but 15 merkins instead of 10 pull-ups
Round 3: ditto, with 20 squats
During these rounds PAX did every exercise you’ve heard of, plus some you haven’t (e.g., Quadruple Merkin Burpees).

Thang 2: Mosey to min-Heartbreak Hill beside Hunt Center for 7’s.  Merkins at the bottom, star jumps at the top.

Q was gassed, PAX was quiet, headed back to tennis courts for Mary

Mary: Plank-o-rama including plank jacks, mountain climbers, plank holds, pickle pounders, Homer-to-Marge (reverse plank) and others.  Wrapped up with low slow flutters and a marathon session of boat canoes courtesy of Aquaman.

Announcements: BRR coming soon; stay tuned for Theme Month at TBD in September; fill out the Q sheet.

Prayer: Daily wisdom, this morning brought to you by Confucius: When you find that your goals cannot be met, don’t adjust your goals – adjust your actions.  Variety of prayers and praises expressed.

TBD needs a driver next week, August 28 – find the Q sheet or let me know.  Aye!
