Spartan 500 at Paradise City

YHC made my triumphant return as the Q at Paradise City this 55 degree comfortable morning.  About 7-8 showed for Extra Credit with Pikachu and Skidmark leaving early to get in the extra mile (nice work).  great pick ups on the EC run of this 6.  Returned after EC to see a large gathering in the parking lot which looked great!  We had a visitor from F3 Chartlotte in town – more on that at the COT

FNGs: None

Warm Up:  A quick lap around the parking lot and then circled up

  • Windmills x 10 🙂
  • Wide Grip Merkins x 10
  • Side Strattle Hops x 20
  • Fazio 10F and 10R
  • Seal Claps x 10
  • Right over left and left over right stretches
  • Pax instructed to find an accountability partner of equal speed to put him

The Workout:

We did the Spartan 500 with running a 0.25 mile in between each sets.  Partner up with a man of similar speed but that can push you.  Do the set of 50 exercises at opposite corners with your partner.  See image below for details.

Goal was to do this 10 times or 5 laps.  T claps to (at least) Pikachu, Skidmark and 187 for finishing all 10!  I think most of the rest got 8 so a spartan 400!

Mary:

The lead pair got back to the Basketball courts a little early and led group in ab exercises.  YHC arrived and closed out mary with a 5 count around the horn holding 6 inch leg lifts.

Bullfrogs and puddles at Paradise City

It had been a while, ok over a year, since I made my way out to the place we call Paradise City and it was great to get back. The rain came down hard prior to the EC activities, but stayed fairly dry for us.  When I rolled in for EC a few trucks in the lot and Fram was there ready to get after some EC with me.  We set off and passed POTS and Sprinkler getting their ruck on.

Some old and new faces joined us for the main event.

FNGs: none
Warm Up:

With eight of us ready to roll we set off for a quick warm-up lap around the parking lot and circled up for warm-up.

  • 20 SSH IC
  • 10 good mornings IC
  • 10 squat hold Moroccan nightclubs IC
  • 10 windmills IC
  • 10 forward fazio arm circles and 10 reverse fazio arm cirles IC
  • merkin clock – 3 o’clock merkins, 6 o’clock merkins, 9 o’clock merkins, 12 o’clock merkins

It was now time to set off for some wet rocks.

The Workout:

The PAX started off for the tunnel, but first needed to partner up and collect one rock per partner.  As the PAX met back in the tunnel, one partner remained for 20 count of balls to the wall, 20 count people’s chair, and back to 20 count balls to the wall.  The other partners ran with rock in stow to end of the path and back.  Rinse and repeat with the other partner.  Round two the rocks stayed and one partner did repeat 10 count curls and 10 count tricep extension continuing until partners are back from their run. rinse and repeat.

The rocks were returned and an indian run was formed heading back towards the Ting ramp.

It only seemed appropriate given the gloomy, wet conditions to bring out the fan favorite bull frog – wheelbarrow combo.  One partner would bull frog (similar to the  wheelbarrow except both hands spring forward at the same time – hence bullfrog) as far up the ramp as they could.  The other partner would then give it a go.  Next, wheelbarrow, repeat, back to bullfrog, until the partners reached the top of the ramp – no easy task!

At the top of the ramp, a quick burnout on the wall.  20 count of dips, urkins, derkins, and step ups. Followed by 10 and finally 5.

All PAX returned to the bottom of the ramp for the grand finale.  the PAX dropped down to plank hold for 10 count, down to chill cut 10 count, back to plank.  When I instructed to sprint, the PAX took off for a designated spot(trash can) about 1/3 of the way up the ramp.  Back down for rinse and repeat for next spring
Mary:

  •  six inch leg hold, move to 33, move to 45, move to 90, back down to six.
  • AH’s IC
  • Shoulder taps
  • AMC
  • LBC’s
  • windshield wipers
  • and of course boat canoes

Announcements:

T-Claps (Recognition):

Prayer:

Prayers were lifted for Leattner who has some tests coming back and Sprinkler’s daughter’s roommate and her friends were in a very bad boat accident in Wrightsville.

Gashers at Paradise City

EC:Dawgpound Lipstick
FNGs:Nope
Warm Up:
We made are way to the second field. We didn’t want Frisbee taking the second field. I had already setup the timer for today’s Gashers.

We stopped at each corner of the field for the following.

Corner 1:
Side Straddle Hop
Good Mornings
5 Burpees

Corner 2:
Fazio Arm Circles Forward and backwards
5 Burpees

Corner 3:
Imperial Marches
Hill Billies
5 Burpees

Corner 4:
Good Mornings
5 Burpees
Frankenstiens

We then headed to the bucket to explain what a Gasher is.
A Gather is across the width of the football field. Come back and repeat. A total of 212 yards. The soccer field is a bit wider. So the bucket was the turning back spot.

The Workout:

Started out with 10 Gashers. The goal one minute. For every pax that doesn’t make it back we had 1 Burpee. If you felt like it you could do Merkins, Squats or WWII until we ran again. We had 15 seconds to recover before we started the next gasher.

We then proceeded to do 4 corners. We did three laps around the field.
Corner 1: 5 Mickey Mouse Merkins
Corner 2: 10 Lunges
Corner 3: 10 Pickle Pounders
Corner 4: 5 Burpees

After we did three trips we went back to the Gashers. We did 2 more Gashers. The last one was for time.

Mary:

Homer to Marge
LBCs
Pickle Pounders

Announcements:
T-Claps (Recognition): To all Pax that stuck with me for the Gashers.

Jockeying for Position

There are certain AO’s where you just know there’s a better than fair chance there will be Indian Runs. Paradise City is one of them. All of us have been doing Indian Runs long enough to know what it’s like when you are unequally matched for speed in your line. Speaking as one no longer in the Clydesdale weight class, but still in the speed class…I know. During the Gloom circle this morning, several PAX asked lots of questions and tried to choose sides to show who they’d rather be with if we did this….In the end, I’d say we were all out of luck. You get what you get and you don’t pitch a fit…though Emeril tried to and got caught.

FNGs: None
Warm Up: Mosey around the upper loop soccer fields stopping at various points. At the bottom of the ramp it was SSH x 30, Good Mornings x10, Sir Fazios x 6. Then…to many groans of disapproval…a bear crawl up the full length of the ramp as a tribute to Pikachu  and his affinity for bear crawls. We moved together on the mosey down to tennis court corner where we did Imperial Walkers x 10, and Hillbillies x10. PAX were instructed to grab some rocks from the drainage pit and leave them there for later work. Some comments of surprise from the PAX as Paradise City is not known for it’s use of rocks. Many rocks were noted to be small…not the greatest rock pit, but every Q should try something new. Finished our mosey down to the guardrail for some Windmills x 10 IC.
The Workout: PAX counted off by two’s and formed two Indian Run lines going in opposite directions of the same soccer field loop. We would perform 11 reps of 4 exercises at 4 stopping points along the way and decrease by 1 rep with each lap. Bottom of ramp – merkins, top of ramp – step ups/each leg, tennis court corner – Ground Pounders, guardrail – dips. Each worked their way down to at least 7 reps, wrapping up the customary 3 miles almost on the nose.
Mary: LBC’s x20 IC, WW1 x20, LSF’s x20 IC, H2M x 20 IC, Pickle Pounders x20 IC.
Announcements: May Main Event – sign up, all info on Slack. JOCOGA CSAUP – The Iliad…coming up in a few weeks in May, a few of us will head down to support our neighbor region.
T-Claps (Recognition):
Prayer: Fumunga and family with the new 2.0. Wallaby’s M. YHC took us out. Great to lead today!

No merlot today

YHC swapped into this week’s Paradise City Q after Lipstick decided to visit the happiest place on earth. With my original workout planned scrapped by the date change the pre-blast just said I was going to try and make someone merlot. Spoiler alert – I failed again. One of these days…….

FNGs
:

None today – sad. Need to go EH some sad clowns.
Warm Up:

Mosey to the top of the ramp – SSH x52 IC

Mosey to the bathroom parking lot – Good Morning x8 IC

Mosey to the far corner – Diamond Merkin x20

Mosey to the basketball court – Hillbillie x10 IC

Mosey to the bottom of the ramp – Imperial Walker x2 IC
The Workout:

Run hard up the ramp, recover down. At the bottom keep running down the hill until six gets to posts, then turn and run hard back to the top. At the top we worked through the following list (one bullet point per trip to the top):

  • 10 Merkins
  • 10 Merkins
  • 10 Squats
  • 10 Squats
  • 10 Burpees (I said it was because of mumblechatter but Pablo was right – we were doing them no matter what)
  • 10 Burpees

We then recovered on 10x Monkey Humpers IC, recovery moseyed to the top for 10x more Monkey Humpers IC, and then did the same thing but with the hard run down the ramp and the recovery up. Same 6 exercises at 10 reps at the bottom this time.

After another two sets of 10x Monkey Humpers for recovery we were tight on time.
Mary:

Mosey to the bottom of the ramp – pax line up in plank hold. On YHC’s mark, set, go we jailbreaked to the basketball courts.

10x Homer to Marge (South Wake Style) IC, then 5x IC each leg and some yoga wrapped us up

Gassed Out

EC:  Lipstick, Skidmark, Pikachu, Fanny Pack, Full House, YHC

FNGs:  Pre-blast rumors were told of 3 FNGs to be brought by Katniss and 187.  YHC was the source of said rumors and they were absolutely unfounded by anything resembling fact.  FULL DISCLOSURE:  These statements were made to ride the coat tails of Katniss’s awesome backblast and pump up the numbers for my Q.

As everyone arrived on this fine Monday morning to Paradise.  The air was cool and fresh.  This was fortunately not a morning where the smell of garbage from the landfill hung in the air.  The PAX assembled and intel on the need for gloves was requested.  YHC figured we would be on our hands a bit so better safe than sorry.  This info caught the ear of our resident Pokemon/Nantan – “Bear Crawls!?” he asked excitedly.  It wasn’t in the plan but this was the second Paradise in recent memory where Pikachu called out for Bear Crawls.  I would see what I could do, I told myself.

Warm Up:  A familiar mozy around Paradise.  We ran towards the bottom of the ramp, as we mozy’d a car was moving fast to arrive to Paradise “on-time”.  Bobby Dall emerged from the car and joined us.  Pikachu reiterated his desire for Bear Crawls.  “Bear Crawls up the ramp!?”  I was starting to feel as though I was in a warped version of Green Eggs and Ham.  “Would you?  Could You?  On a ramp?”  The run continued to the top of the ramp where Windmills were performed.  Something was said about “Recover”.  I guess if you need to recover from Windmills…  Skidmark… YHC pressed on and we continued to the back corner near the tennis courts,  On the way, Skidmark looked back on his childhood and ran with his arms spread as if he were a bird or a plane.  Arrival at our next stop, YHC called out Side Straddle Hops.  We went to 25, YHC shouted “RECOVER” followed by Side Straddle Hops.  Lipstick was provided with his typical 50 SSH to start his Monday, Skidmark was given a moment to recover.  We pressed on to the lot, just beyond the barrier outside of the basketball courts – Daisy Pickers.   Warm Up over…

The Workout:

Mozy to the tunnel opening.  PAX watched out on the bypass as THE LAW descended on one unlucky speeder.  YHC reflected on Bobby Dall’s entrance to Paradise this morning.  Lucky for him, no one was on Sportsmanship way this AM as they have been for the last few weeks.

Thing 1:  Tunnel time was not on the menu but the first event was added per request from Pikachu.  Bear Crawls repeats up the hill.  Followed by lunge walks down this hill.  PAX repeated 5x bear crawls with returns.  At some point during this event, the first foul smell was noted.  Did Lipstick, take a Lipstick in the tunnel again?  No time to investigate, let’s clear out – next thing.

Travel to the next thing was a weave through the Paradise lot along Sportsmanship Way, back towards the ramp, and then back towards Sportsmanship again, following the outer rim of the lot.  As we approached our destination, a release…  Warbucks owned it immediately and proclaimed that he was powered by Tijuana Flats.  Full House cried foul, based on his examinations their were notes of chocolate and blueberries.  Something was off and not just the smell.

Thing 2:  11s on the stairs.  WW2s at the bottom (10 to start), Burpees up top (1 to start) – MATH!  OYO!  LET’S GO!  As the PAX worked to finish their task, complaints continued about a specific aroma.  Lipstick was pretty far from the group but that never stopped him before.  Laettner proclaimed “When it’s me, I own it!”  Thing 2 – FIN

Mozy in reverse course around the outer rim of the Paradise lot until we are at the top of the Bear Crawl hill.

Thing 3 (appetizer):  Sprint up the hill to the back corner of the lot.

Mozy around the back and to the bottom of the ramp.

Thing 3:  In the events of the morning it became clear what these men needed.  Probiotics!  Yogurt wasn’t present so all I could do was provide the medicine he would normally prescribe after a workout at Paradise (or any Ting-based AO) – SPRINT REPEATS!!!  Regardless of the need for probiotics, YHC had already decided to incorporate Yogurt’s 7-minute routine to the Main Event.  It played out as it normally does EXCEPT…  Someone ripped one at the starting line and held up the launch to ensure everyone got a good wif… FOR SHAME!!!  (nice one bro)

Return to the lot for Mary

Mary:  Oops, Bear Crawl repeats took all the time we had for Mary – Let’s not forget Bobby Dall’s hurried (but late) entrance – 5 BURPEES!!!

AnnouncementsLONG ASS RUN this Saturday

Prayer:  YHC took us out – Great morning in the gloom!
