Bear crawls and duck walks and crab walks, oh my!

Nothing fancy about today.  It was cold so we showed up and got our sweat on.

The Workout:

Starting at the first median in the parking lot the PAX lined up.  We were going to do a bear crawl Jack Webb.  We’d start with our 1:4 of merkins and air presses from where we were starting and then, between each set, we’d bear crawl two parking spaces and work our way up and down the parking lot to complete the Jack Webbs all the way up to 10:40.

After this we did what I call Duck Walk Spud Webbs.  These are similar to Dan Taylors but reversed.  We still maintained the 1:4 ratio but it was in cadence lunges and then squats.  Again, starting at the first parking median we did the first set and then duck walked two parking spaces to do our second set.  So on and so forth until we completed 10:40 for a total of 221 squats.  And also me saying “down” 221 times.

After this was done we moseyed around to the back of the school.  We stopped at the road on the side of the school because I thought I had ideas but that stretch of road was too long for what i was thinking.  I’ve since come up with better ideas that we’ll visit next time 🙂

At the basketball court we lined up for a crab boil.  Starting at one goal we crab walked to the other side were we did 10 in cadence crab cakes.  Crab walk back to the other side of the court for 10 in cadence crab humpers.  One more trip across the basketball court and we finished with 10 in cadence crab jacks.

We lined up on the near wall to do a round of BTTW and peoples chair.  Afterwards we went over to the knee wall for a quick set of irkins, dirkins, and dips.

In mediocre Sheepdog fashion we circled up for some CQC and did two round of 20 single, double, and triple punches.

After that we moseyed back to the flag for…

Farva Christmas Spectacular 12.24

FNGs: N/a
Warm Up: 2+ mile solo EC run to look at Christmas lights.
Pretty standard warmup to kick things off and turned on the Christmas playlist to set the holiday mood.

The Workout: First up was Merkin Claus. Hold plank and alternate between sets of mtn climbers and plank jacks, while doing merkins every time they say “Santa” in Here comes Santa Claus.

Next up was time to decorate the tree with the atlas stone. Line up on the first line and take turns carrying the atlas stone from branch(line) to branch. To get past the first branch you must do 1 man maker burpee. 2nd branch was 2 box cutters and 1 man maker burpee. Continue this until the top where pax need to complete 12 Monkey humpers, 11 mountain climbers, 10 split lunges, 9 Scorpion dry docks, 8 stars a jumping, 7 Side hop moguls (in cadence), 6 boats a rowing, 5 crab cakes, 4 t-stand kicks, 3 prisoner squats, 2 box cutters, and 1 man maker burpee

Finally it was time to build a snowman. Turned on a get hype frosty the snowman mix and we got started. Bear crawl up the parking lot line and do knee taps, bear crab to the right and do waist taps, then crawl bear back for shoulder taps, and bear crab left for head taps. Rinse and repeat for the full length of the remix.

Penis and Balls

It’s the first day of winter.  You can’t wake up in May and start thinking about going to the pool and looking good, that has to start now.  Numbers wain during the cold months but these are the months that make the warm months easier.  Get out there and do something, no matter what the weather.

The Workout:

We headed to the pavilion for our first set of exercises when the title of this backblast was found.  Inside the pavilion was a box of canned goods and various articles of clothing, obviously for some sort of drive.  There was also purple chalk writings on the floor with stars and sparkles.  YHC paid no attention to it as he assumed that some little girls were just playing the day before.  It wasn’t until we got down for LBC’s that someone pointed out that, in purple, was written Penis and Balls with corresponding illustrations.  Never would have guessed that was what it was.

We started with an LBC circuit pyramid.  We did standard LBCs, reverse LBCs, knees to the right LBCs, and then knees to the left LBCs.  We did 5, then 10, then 15, then 10, then back down to 5.  It was a total of 180 LBCs of one kind or another.

After that we went down to the curved wall for what I called an Irkins, Dirkins, and Dips bear crawl typewriter.  This worked out better in my head than in practice but it was still “fun”.  The goal was to start in irkin position, do 1 rep, and then have the last person in line bear crawl to the other side and get back up.  We’d then do 2 irkins.  So on and so forth until we hit 5 and then we started at 1 again.  When we hit the middle of the wall where the steps were we went back the other way.  We completed a full round of irkins.

Dirkins didn’t go so well.  We pivoted to duck walks because they’re faster but we only made it to the steps when YHC called an audible because he didn’t feel like we were going to survive the trip back down.  We then went in to dips with crab walks.  Once we reached the end of the wall we made our way back to the pavilion.

Here we did a step up pyramid, in similar fashion as the LBCs, with a set of 10 irkins in between each round of step ups.  Then it was down to the baseball field.  At the backstop we all held People’s Chair while someone ran the bases.  After that it was a quick set of BTTW with People’s Chair with seal claps or overhead claps in between.  Then it was back to the flag for…

Mary:

Rocky Balboa x15 IC (I think?  There was so much mumble chatter that I just kept going to see if anyone would pay attention.  Eventually someone started counting again and they picked it up at 13 and I stopped at 15.  I think we did more but no one was counting.)

Céline Dion Would Be Proud

YCH looked at the forecast last night and thought numbers might be low this morning to match the temperatures  but never expected them to be the loneliest number, leaving me ♫ All by my self  ♫.   The temptation to go home and curl back up in to bed was high.  No one would know, right?  But there was someone that would know, me, and I continued on for their sake.  And even though it was just me cadence count was kept, COT happened complete with count-off and name-o-rama, announcements, and prayer requests.  This may speak a bit to my mental state but I found it important.

FNGs:

Clearly, none.

Warm Up:

Lap around the tennis court and then circled up for:

SSH x20 IC

Good Morning x10 IC

Imperial Walkers x10 IC

Arm and shoulder stretches.

The Workout:

We moseyed to the beginning of the parking lot and started at the first parking spot line.  The first exercise was bear crawl Jack Webb’s.  We would do the usual 1:4  ratio of merkins and air presses, increasing up to 10:40, but would bear crawl two parking spaces in between sets.  So it was 1 merkin, 4 air presses, bear crawl two space, 2 merkins and 8 air presses, bear crawl two spaces, etc.

Michael Phelps at the end to shake out those arms.

After that we did what I’m calling duck walk Spud Webb’s.  These were similar to the above exercise but we did in cadence lunges followed by squats.  In between the sets we would duck walk 2 parking spaces, making our way back to where we started the first exercise.  Again this was done in the 1:4 ratio up to 10:40.

After this we did a slow mosey to the tennis courts and lined up at the end line of the far court.  Next up was my favorite routine, the crab boil.

Starting from the end line on the first court we crab walked to the same line on the next court to do an exercise.  We did this across all four courts.  The exercises were, as usual:

Crab cakes x10 IC

Crab humpers x10 IC

Crab jacks x10 IC

At the end we did two rounds of BTTW and People’s Chair before doing another crab boil back to where we started.  After that it was time to head back out to the parking lot so we could both warm up the car and continue on to …

Mary:

Circled up and got on our 6 for the following exercises:

Prayer:

YHC asked for prayers to continue putting in the hard work at home that I’ve been doing to better connect with my kids.

I took us out in prayer.  I’m thankful for all of the men that have helped give me the strength to not go home when I really wanted to this morning.  Before I knew any of you I never would have done something like this.  Thanks for the continued motivation

Abs and asses

YHC has been absent a lot recently due to the half marathon training plan I’ve been following.  Thursdays, however, call for ab work so I figured why not lead an ab-centric workout this morning and share with everyone else.  I also know that glutes are one of our most neglected muscles during our typical beatdowns so I figured I’d throw in a couple exercises that focused on them to round out the workout.

I HAVE THE POWER!!!

EC:  Let it be documented that Full House and UTI ran EC on this day.

FNGs:  The title of this backblast makes me think of a once FNG we had at the Cobra.  He was named Snarf for his love of Heman (I think that was the story) also something about a pet he had named Snarf.  I’m gonna reach out once I write this backblast.  Chat soon Snarf!

Warm Up:  Typical stuff – Windmills, Merkins, Imperial Walkers, Hillbillies, Goofballs, etc.

I’ll put this next section in the warm up because it was more about me having fun, but we worked out too.  I didn’t let the PAX know what I was doing so they thought I’d gone crazy or simply had no plan and was wondering the parking lot.  Some might recall a Q of mine from way back when where I marked Purple Cobras.  Back then, I was inspired by some graffiti that was sprayed on the now Dollar Store across the street from the Cobra and decided compete for tagging dominance and properly mark my territory.  See my earlier backblast for the exciting details – https://f3southwake.com/2018/12/18/pffffttttt/

We ran around completing exercises along the way.  Plank Jacks, SSH, WWIs, and Squats were dished out.  At one point, Full House said something like “I think he is writing something…”  DING DING DING DING DING!!!!  Kosher\Woody congrats on taking the next drink of Kool-Aid at F3 and becoming site Qs just know that this AO has been marked for UTI (POWER).  Once you get a UTI, it’s not always easy to get rid of…

Photo

We went through the bank lot and around to the back of Teeter where we ran Carioca each side, then ran in reverse as we washed ourselves in the odor of the HT dumpster.

It was about here that Full House was afflicted with a calf issue.

The Workout:

Thing 1:  Earkins, Derkins, Dips, run around the Jiffy Lube 2x – Full House was asked to sit the running part out but he is stubborn and he soldiered through it.  I pulled the plug on this workout due to time and a concern for my friend.  But mostly for time (There was more to do)

Thing 2:  Mozy to the Thrift Store lot and partner up.  Using the islands and the curb facing HT as our boundaries.  Something shy of 11s with Broken Wheel Barrows in between for transportation between said island and curb.  Star Jumps and Prisoner Squats on the ends.  There was highly accurate counting in play thanks to my brother that always brings A Dash More, 16-bit.  In the end, it didn’t matter – I got bored of the workout and the counting somewhere in the middle to the end…  NEXT

Thing 3:  There was a wall nearby and I had recently invented/stole/borrowed/found something I call Ball Walkers.  So we did them!  Assume the Balls to the Wall position and shimmy down the wall on your hands.  We went down the wall 2x.

Back to the flag!

Mary:  Pickle Pounders, Homer to Marge, Dying Cockroach, and some calf stretching courtesy of Full House.

Announcements:  Holly Fest Sign-ups, Brute Squad this weekend, Purple Cobra wants you to sign-up on the Q sheet

T-Claps (Recognition):  Shredder is shredding – nearly done with his 75 Hard Challenge.  Good Stuff

Prayer:  Kosher’s co-worker recovering from brain surgery for cancer, Wallaby’s mom with early onset of Parkinson’s, 16-bits friend that recently passed and left a wife and 3 kids behind.

As the workout wrapped and everyone left.  Kosher and I talked shovel flags and said hi to Dahmer as he pumped gas.  Dahmer looked well rested, he said that he had just come from Caveman.  That makes sense…

Dahmer left and Kosher and I both went to leave but when he turned the key just some light clicking came from his truck.  I had done it… I had put on a workout of such greatness that I even managed to suck the energy out of Kosher’s truck!

The Rope is Thick…and the Pipe is Sweaty!

All I know is the title of this Backblast contains two statements that WERE said by PAX at today’s workout. I just don’t know sometimes…

FNG’s: none

The stations were Tire Flip, Pain Stick Squat, Kettlebell full swing to overhead, Kettlebell Row, Ballistic Curl with mace, Blockees, Battle Ropes, Dumbbell Bench press w/ 45’s, Brick Shoulder Progression. Everyone got in about 2 whole rounds.

Hope Ya’ll Enjoyed That!

YHC decided to take the Sheepdog crowd on a metaphoric journey through the mountains and mimic the experiences I had last weekend at BRR!

FNG’s: no
Warm Up: Imperial Walkers x12 IC, Hillbillies x13 IC, Frankensteins x12 IC, Seal Claps x13 IC.
The Workout: Every race starts fast…jitters are there, blood is pumping. Fast Feet with Up/Downs called by YHC for about 3 mins. to get the pulse going.

We moseyed over to the awning/wall area for a 5 ct. per PAX People’s Chair. This was followed by Step-Ups x 30, Squats x35, and Single Leg Bulgarian Squats x15 each leg.

We did a scout run to the back track/playground area.

On a tough run, sometimes you have to get your mind ready to just “settle in” to the suck. Each PAX took a turn in pairs running around the track while all others did Burpees OYO. Once all PAX had gone, we did a rinse and repeat but with LSF’s instead. You against you type of thing…

We then completed an Indian run up to the front to mimic the fast quick leg.

Finally, we finished with a game of perseverance as we embraced the Mountain Goat. The PAX did a long bear crawl, stopping along the way for a reverse countdown of Mountain Climbers/Diamond Merkins, beginning at 7 reps.  This lasted about 8 minutes. We did take a time or two recovery, because that is how to run smart on the Mountain Goat!

Mary: 25 Counts of the following: WW2’s, Homer to Marge, LBC’s, and Freddie Mercury. Finished with planks and pigeon.
Announcements: Strongman CSAUP on 10/16…sign up on Slack. Sleep in Heavenly Peace may need a bed build again.

Warm Up: Kicked it off with a follow the leader lap around the parking lot and several line agility drills.
Circle up for side straddle hops, arm circles forward and reverse, seal claps, overhead claps, good mornings, and daisy pickers.
The Workout: Had to make some changes on the fly to adjust for a 3 man card game of war, but here is basically how it went.

Deal out all of the deck and hand out to each pax. Each pax flips their top card and the highest card wins. The winner gets to choose an exercise and adds the top two cards to get the rep count. The losers do a burpee and then all pax do whatever exercise is chosen. If the top two cards are a tie, then all Pax do a specific exercise for 30 seconds AMRAP, and whoever between the pax that tied that does the most reps wins. The losers do a penalty burpee and the winner picks the exercise to do as normal.

After going through all of the cards, Shredder led us in some knee striking techniques/practice.

Mary: Embrace the suck to close this one out
Announcements: Several runs and CSAUPs coming up
