No Rain at Paradise City Although it was Rainmakers Birthday

During the random mumble chatter at the start of today’s workout a comment was made that there is no anatomical benefit to running backwards.  After a little internet search (because the internet is always right) I found this article: https://www.runnersworld.com/training/a20798335/the-many-bennies-of-running-backward/.  Feel free to add your comments and thoughts to your favorite social media forum.

Now on to what happened.

5 PAX showed for the normal EC route.  Emeril, Yogurt, 187, Skidmark and YHC (Cowboy).  It feels kind of odd running with no rain.

Warmup:

PAX took a light jog around Ting park with the following stops and exercises:

Ticket Office

  • SSH in Cadence x 20
  • Windmill in Cadence x 10
  • Good Morning Cadence x 10

Basketball Court

  • Fozzio Arm Circles Forward x 10
  • Fozzio Arm Circles Backward x 10
  • T-Claps x 10
  • Monkey Humpers x 10

The Workout:

After a quick count off the PAX started an exciting round of 4 Corners using the entire Ting Parking Lot.  On the long straights we ran forward and on the short legs we ran backwards (hence the note at the beginning).  At each corner the following exercises were performed:

  • Burpees x 5
  • Squats x 10
  • LBCs x 20

We repeated this for 3 laps with some looping back for extra to pick up the six.

With little time left we headed to the top of the Ting Ramp where we split into 2 groups.  1 group did BTW while the other group ran ½ way down the hill and back.  We then switched and repeated.  We then headed back to the basketball court for Mary

Mary:

YHC grabbed his phone and then settled into a quick session of Mary.  The following exercises were completed:

  • Low Slow Flutter x 15
  • Pickle Pounders (called by 187) x 10
  • Merkins (called by Packman) x 10

It was great to be given the opportunity to lead.

Announcements:

  • Its Rainmakers Birthday. If you see him today wish him Happy Birthday
  • 2.0 Workout on Saturday was great. Will need a couple of PAX step up and Q future workouts.  1st Saturday of every Month.

Prayer Requests:

  • Family known by PAX who lost a child

Warm Up: SSH, GM, arm circles (f/b), plank/runner’s lunge/downward dog, Merkins, lunge walk to top of lot
The Workout: Introduced the Tower of Power–the softball fieldhouse. A 25 count of Preacher’s Chair and 25 count of Balls to the Wall served as the hub–literally and figuratively. From the hub, we explored the four corridors–or spokes–between the fields.

Spoke 1 (batting cages): Dips 25 and Derkins 25 on small wall surrounding batting cages, back to Tower for 25 Preachers/25 BTW

Spoke 2 (west to greenway): 10 Burpees OYO, 25 derkins, back to Tower for 25 Preachers/25 BTW

Spoke 3 (flag poles): 25 LBCs in cadence; 20 WWIIs, back to Tower for 25 Preachers/25 BTW

Spoke 4 (handrail by pond): Inclined pullup (hang from handrail, pull up), 25 squats, back to Tower for 25 Preachers/25 BTW

Circle up by Tower for Round-the-Clock Merkins.  Apparently these were military clocks because I kept going past 12 at 12 o’clock. Then, I did it again at 9 o’clock. Oooops, was on a roll. Running low on time, we rushed back to tennis courts for Mary.
Mary: Kid Cracker led 20x exaggerated low slow flutter, YHC led American hammer 20x
Announcements: Holly Springs Spring Classic preview run, 8 am Saturday; Burger Feet (F3 Raleigh): F3 Raleigh travels to Wallace NC every Saturday to rebuild homes affected by hurricanes/floods. 10 Fazio Arm Circles Backward
10 Hillbillies
10 Imperial Walkers

10 Reverse Merkins

The Workout:

Form Two Indian lines.  I made Lucky go in the faster line. 🙂

Three Rounds of the following

Basketball court: 5 Burpees
Corner: 5 Burpees, 10 Merkins
Box Office: 5 Burpees, 10 Merkins, 15 Squats
Bottom of Ramp: 5 Burpees, 10 Merkins, 15 Squats, 20 LBCs

Then as a pax we ran to the guard rail.  Did 10 in cadence Dipplers
Then as a pax we ran to the wall between the corner and the box office.  Did 40 count of Balls to the Wall
Ran to the Box office to do another 40 count of Balls to the Wall.
Ran back to the Basketball court for Mary.

Surf’s Up – Cletus 2-8-19

Fresh off a week in Costa Rica, I (Yogurt) mimicked surfing in this arm-intensive workout.

Warm Up: Mosey around Hunt Center to front parking lot; SSH 25x; Arm circles 10f/10b; 5 burpees OYO

Mosey to tennis courts. Local surfers would stretch before hopping in the water. Leg stretches: Flat on back, knees up to 45 degrees, left ankle to right knee, gently pull left knee toward right shoulder, feel in the buttocks. Opposite side too.

Star stretch: flat on back, arms extended overhead, left knee up to 45 degrees, drop left knee over right, extend. Simultaneously, reach left arm out to left. From above, you are forming a plus sign. Opposite side too.

The Workout: Mosey to softball field, right field foul line. Got our bearings in the darkness with a quick wheelbarrow out to hula hoops. Switch partners and back.

Workout mimicked paddling out and surfing in. When paddling out, often you have to sprint. You must hammer to make it past the breakers and into the lineup.

Workout: Elevens with squats and Catalina wine chillers. On shore side, squats. Sprint to paddle out. While in the lineup, Catalina wine chillers. Catch a wave and ride it in! Rinse and repeat with Elevens as count.

Mosey to dirt parking lot to ride the tides. How many tides are in a day? Typically four–high, low, high, low

From greenway (low tide side), run to paved driveway (high tide side): 12 Merkins to represent high tide at 12 o’clock; run back down to greenway (low tide side), 6 Merkins to represent low tide at 6 o’clock. Rinse and repeat until we did a couple of days’ worth of tides.

Mary: Mosey to tennis courts. Ab work: Hammock without the hammock 20x; Superman arms to side 15x, arms overhead 15x. Pickle pounders 20x. Low slow flutter 20x. Box cutters 15x.

Dump or Super Bowl – Both Stunk

22 Pax gathered in the smelliest part of Holly Springs for a Monday morning beatdown. Q was a little upset with the result so made sure to take it out on the Pax. Very few Pats fans showed up but I doubt they could handle it anyway.

EC: 187, Cowboy, Crosby, UTI, Full House, Pablo, Pikachu, Dawgpound, Skidmark

Warm Up: Mosey for one loop with stops to do Good Mornings, SSH, and Windmills. Once back at the court Pax paired up by ability and speed. It was only logical that Dawgpound requested to be Lucky’s partner. Somebody needed to make sure we gave Lucky a push. Kudos DP.

The Workout: Catch me if you can partner runs. 1st loop 2 Double Merkin Burpees. 2nd loop around 3 squat jumps. 3rd time around 5 merkins. Once at the end circle back for the 6 doing 5 LBCs.

Mosey to the ramp for some 7’s. Reverse merkins at the bottom and star jumps halfway up the ramp.

Mary: Merkin clock with stops at 12, 10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, and 12.

Announcements: See Pikachu’s announcements on FB and Slack. Nothing new.

Prayer: Shredder, Dumbo, Brexit, Emeril

I’ve never seen lights worn like that

Wow. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, South Wake loves virgins…Q’s that is. 30 Pax posted for a virgin Q this morning by Aquaman.

The amount of Pax that posted at EC was incredible too. I’ll try to get them all: UTI, Pablo, Lipstick, Crosby, Gumby, Dawgpound, Deadbolt, Double Doink, Slide Rule, Cowboy, Nemo, Peeping Tom, Mookie, , Wiggly, Skidmark (again sorry if I forgot anyone)

New light vests should come with instruction on how to put it on. Said pax had the lights somewhere down around his groin area and through his legs. I think there was some concern with it not staying on his shoulders.

Welcome FNG Boogie

EC: Pablo (foundation:current), Warbucks (foundation), Breach, Slide Rule (foundation:current), Nemo (foundation), Full House

With the rain and puddles, we avoided running around the soccer field, so 2 laps around the parking lot at the playground, SSH IC x 20, Imperial Walkers and Hillbillies IC x 10, Fazio Arm Circles 10 forward and 10 backward
The Workout:

The PAX split in to 2 groups and did an indian run over to the large parking lot.  The PAX remained in their indian run groups and continued up and down the lanes of the parking lot doing 10 merkins on one side and 20 squats on the other side.  Once all lanes were done and every puddle stepped in, we moseyed over to the faculty parking lot where PAX found an accountability partner and started 11’s on the long and steady climb up the road that goes from the lot to the library and West Lake Rd (burpees at the bottom, squat jumps at the top).  With time running short, we stopped 11’s and regrouped and did an indian run back to the flag for Mary.
