B.A.S.K.E.T.B.A.L.L.

FNGs: None
Warm Up: Daisy Pickers, SSH, Sir Fazio Arm Circles (Forward & Reverse), Imperial Walkers, Hillbillies
The Workout:

We started with some wall work, consisting of BTTW and People’s Chair. During BTTW, each PAX called a 7 count (IC). While in People’s Chair, YHC called overhead claps–35 IC–to serve as our timer.

We moseyed on to the basketball courts for some free throw drills. We formed a circle around the basketball goal, and each PAX took a turn shooting a free throw. If the PAX missed, a penalty of more reps was incurred for the resulting exercise, however, if the free throw was made, fewer reps had to be performed. The series of exercises spelled B.A.S.K.E.T.B.A.L.L:

B = Bobby Hurleys

A = Alternating Side Squats

S = Squats

K = Knerkins

E = BurpEes

T = Tempo Merkins

B = Burpees

A = American Hammers

L = Low slow flutter kicks

L = LBCs

1 PAX–BlueHen–valiantly volunteered to shoot a free throw on behalf of the other PAX to determine how many sets of suicides would follow. As the free throw was made, PAX only had to sprint once to the end of the parking lot and back.

We proceeded to two sets of 4 corners. For the first set, we cycled through various types of merkins: wide grip, diamond, ranger, and regular. For the second set, we cycled through some more merkins, squats, and American Hammers to transition into Mary.

Mary: We finished with a few minutes of Mary, PAX choice: Box cutters, Monkey humpers, and Plank

Announcements: Unspoken prayers. YHC took us out.

Prayer: Check Slack

Runners, ruckers, and terds oh my…

FNGs: Welcome FNG Huffy – UTI let it be known that he brought Huffy and was claiming the point, thanks UTI
Warm Up: SSH, IWs, Frankenstein’s and GM’s
The Workout: 9 PAX out for a 3 miler, one rucker and 9 PAX out for little over 5.  McNugget did his best Lipstick impression, first being denied entry to the bathrooms in 12 Oaks, only to drop his deuce somewhere off Green Oaks Parkway, I’m sure the furry woodland creatures are enjoying the smell.  Great work by all today, beautiful morning for a mosey.
Announcements: Shredder is leading the Memorial Day Murph at Womble, check out slack for more details.  We are also raising money the HSPD to equip 24 squad cars with a pretty sweet First Aid kit, which budgets don’t cover for them…a worthy cause.  Bring some cashish or use the ol’ Venmo for donations.
Prayer: Spoken/unspoken, military, first responders, Crablegs.

Closed with the pledge of allegiance.

OG U-turn returns

25 PAX got a taste of the old school route this morning. We had a bunch of ECers run over from Jones Park as well. Lot of good chatter on this brisk morning. Nice work picking up the six. The 3 mile group did some yoga after their run. Pikachu called in sick so YHC stepped up for some May points. Nice work all around.

We ended with prayer as always.

Thanks for allowing me to lead.

BS out!

Reach out and touch someone (old AT&T slogan)

During announcements I closed encouraging everyone to reach out to someone within F3 that may be dealing with an injury or just flat out hasn’t posted to an AO in a while.  I told Saturday’s U-Turn PAX during the month of April I was personally dealing with a toe sprain and I hadn’t posted nearly as much as I would’ve liked to.  Weekends are usually my only time to post at all during the week and I had missed U-Turn and AGS for 2 weeks straight.  It didn’t take long for me to feel disconnected and somewhat distant from my fellow F3 brothers  (both because I hadn’t seen anyone in a while and I had also lost some of my stamina/endurance).  I can only imagine how a long term injury or a long period of time off (for whatever reason) may lead to a PAX feeling embarrassed or shameful to come back and post.  Although we would never shame anyone and we always welcome any man to any workout at anytime I feel its important that we make an effort to reach out to a fellow F3 member that we know is injured, dealing with another issue, or just haven’t seen in a while.  Sometimes a little encouragement can go a long way.

FNGs: none today

Warm Up: quick mosey, 10x Windmills, 10x Daisy Pickers, 10x Imperial Walkers, 10x Frankensteins, 25x-30x Merkins

The Workout: standard U-Turn in reverse (6mi option or 3mi option).  By far an easier route than standard U-Turn due to less hills/elevation.

Mary: ran outta time

Announcements: congrats to Sprinkler’s son graduating high-school!  Upcoming Grasshopper 5K run, 5K walk, & 1mi fun run benefiting Sergeant Rick Leach Sat June 12 here in Holly Springs.  Bed build June 12th.  May challenge continues…

The Workout:

Moseyed to the Bus Drop off. We split up into pairs and then a pair took one of the three islands.

Run in opposite directions around the island. When you met your partner do 7s counting down of Broke Back Shoulder Tap Merkins. Every time you meet you decreased the number. We went down to 1. Once that was wrapped up we did laps around the island. Partner A did bear crawls and Partner B did Lunge walks. When Partner A needed a break Partner B took over the bear crawls and Partner A did lunges. After one lap we switched to Gorilla Walks and Lunges.

Mosey to the wall for mobile balls to the wall. The pax waiting held their Squat Hold. As pax held balls to the wall and moved down the length of the wall.

Moseyed to the playground and split up in three groups. One group went with Emeril to the hill. One group with Flanigan to the play ground and the last group with me to the wall. The hill group was the timer. 5 trips up the hill running backwards. The folks against the wall held squat while lifting up one leg and switching. The playground group did pull ups. Once the 5 trips where completed group one went to the wall. Group 2 to the hill and group 3 to the playground. Repeat until all groups ran the hill.

Then we made our way up the stairs. We then found our original partners and wheelbarrow to the flag pole/stop sign.

The elusive albino deer

FNGs: none
Warm Up: SSH, IW, DP’s, Good morning
The Workout: 4 ruckers  + a 2.0 took off for a 3 mile route and some weight based walking.  23 ran 5+ through the Springs this am, with a trip up Elm and a short jaunt on Johnson.  A late pick up of Vasoline and a new route finally gave him the spotting of the elusive albino deer.  Now the real question must be answered…what’s Vasoline searching for now?  An albino racoon, possum, beaver?  Nice work today gents!
Announcements: Still time to get in on the May event, see Fanny Pack for more details…must have 4 PAX to enter.  Yogurt starting some new trail running, catch up with him for more details
Prayer: unspoken today

Jockeying for Position

There are certain AO’s where you just know there’s a better than fair chance there will be Indian Runs. Paradise City is one of them. All of us have been doing Indian Runs long enough to know what it’s like when you are unequally matched for speed in your line. Speaking as one no longer in the Clydesdale weight class, but still in the speed class…I know. During the Gloom circle this morning, several PAX asked lots of questions and tried to choose sides to show who they’d rather be with if we did this….In the end, I’d say we were all out of luck. You get what you get and you don’t pitch a fit…though Emeril tried to and got caught.

FNGs: None
Warm Up: Mosey around the upper loop soccer fields stopping at various points. At the bottom of the ramp it was SSH x 30, Good Mornings x10, Sir Fazios x 6. Then…to many groans of disapproval…a bear crawl up the full length of the ramp as a tribute to Pikachu  and his affinity for bear crawls. We moved together on the mosey down to tennis court corner where we did Imperial Walkers x 10, and Hillbillies x10. PAX were instructed to grab some rocks from the drainage pit and leave them there for later work. Some comments of surprise from the PAX as Paradise City is not known for it’s use of rocks. Many rocks were noted to be small…not the greatest rock pit, but every Q should try something new. Finished our mosey down to the guardrail for some Windmills x 10 IC.
The Workout: PAX counted off by two’s and formed two Indian Run lines going in opposite directions of the same soccer field loop. We would perform 11 reps of 4 exercises at 4 stopping points along the way and decrease by 1 rep with each lap. Bottom of ramp – merkins, top of ramp – step ups/each leg, tennis court corner – Ground Pounders, guardrail – dips. Each worked their way down to at least 7 reps, wrapping up the customary 3 miles almost on the nose.
Mary: LBC’s x20 IC, WW1 x20, LSF’s x20 IC, H2M x 20 IC, Pickle Pounders x20 IC.
Announcements: May Main Event – sign up, all info on Slack. JOCOGA CSAUP – The Iliad…coming up in a few weeks in May, a few of us will head down to support our neighbor region.
T-Claps (Recognition):
Prayer: Fumunga and family with the new 2.0. Wallaby’s M. YHC took us out. Great to lead today!

Where’s Martini’s Cell Phone?

FNGs: None
Warm Up: PAX circled up for some SSH, daisy pickers and IWs
The Workout: 2 routes available this morning, 4 miles and 5.5 miles.  17 set out on a short journey in search of some pre-marathon miles, taking it easy, or running with a ruck sack if you’re @Yogurt.  The 5 milers took old U-turn, with a trip up cemetery hill in anticipation of BRR in a few months.  The run wouldn’t have been complete without a search for Martini’s phone on the route, t-claps to @Skidmark for finding it in the grass and @Yogurt for going back for the six.
Announcements: Opportunity to help build bunk beds for Sleep in Heavenly Peace on Saturday 4/24 from 8-11.  See slack and/or LED for details.  F3 Foundation is supporting the initiative and events will take place in the Kohl’s parking lot in Fuquay.
Prayer: Good health and safety for all those running in Wilmington.

Easter Egg Hunting at U-turn

FNGs:none

Warm Up: Quick jog around parking lot.  Circled up for SSH, Good morning, Moroccan Night Clubs, Daisy Pickers, Static Leg Stretches

The Workout:  Pre, pre blast tempted PAX with an Easter egg hunt with lots of prizes.  Secured a wingman (Fanny Pack) to plan out the morning and help with execution.  We met at 0515 and set off with a basket of 75 eggs.  As I drove with my hazards on, Fanny Pack gentle threw eggs out the open window on the grass by the sidewalk (trying to find well lit areas).  But there were more goodies in store.  One of our best runners (Vasoline) is notorious for searching for 4 things during his early morning runs:  sport balls (e.g. tennis, golf, lacrosse), money, tools, and the elusive albino deer.  YHC had 6 special balls and 2 pics of the elusive albino deer.  Would Vasoline or any of the PAX find these beauties?  Time would tell.
Before runners started reverse U-turn standard 5-plus mile route or 3.5 mile route, YHC highlighted the following rules:  only PAX who began U-turn were eligible; based on 19 PAX, three egg minimum (no more than 4); must return eggs to YHC at Mary.  Prizes awarded post COT.

Dauber ran with Mookie, Bobbie Boucher and Forceps.  Headlocks work fellas.  I promised Mookie I would come out to Kung POW if he returned the favor; a man is as good as his word.  Same thing with Forceps:  he HC’d after I committed to Ground pounder.  Always great catching up with Mookie.  He reminded me of a certain t-shirt when I announced I had to divert to the woods.  Thanks for picking up the 6 too Mookie.  We caught up with Bobbie Boucher and Forceps and continued mumble chatter.  With first ones in, we slowly saw additional PAX come into the parking lot.  I think Emeril took a short cut to and came in hot needing to adjust gross weight at Panera’s. Within 15 mins, all PAX were accounted for.

Mary:  The thought was there but then we began collecting the eggs for my M and may have forgot.  PAX grabbed their tickets and were eager for the numbers to be called.  Vasoline was very excited about his discoveries:  two golf balls, a penny, and a tennis ball.  I pleaded ignorance.  Emeril founded a golf ball too.  Fanny Pack found an albino deer.

I pulled out my phone and showed pax my dubious pic of the “Dauber” sport balls.  See pic.

YHC drew the first ticket and called the lucky number:  Winner – Bobbie Boucher.  He then drew the next winner:  Forceps who then drew the final winner, Alpine.  Each Winner chose an envelope.  Gift cards from local merchants in each envelope.  PAX happy.  See pic.

Announcements:  Willow Springs 3rdF today – See Gump; see Slack/FB for more announcements.

T-Claps (Recognition):  All the PAX who shared their extra eggs making sure each PAX had at least three eggs.  Nice.

Prayer:  Forceps’s friend Todd who had a heart attack; Praise for Doc’s kid and her successful surgery; Banana Seat gave us a PSA:  testicular awareness month; Unspoken.
YHC took us out.  Happy Easter to you all.
This was a lot of fun.  Thank you again Fanny Pack for your help this morning.
Honored to lead. -Dauber

Am I Being Punished???

YHC took that Q at a somewhat unfamiliar site at the Nut today. I haven’t been to this site in about 9 months and have only Q’d here once before…and that’s where I was a different version of myself. But it is a challenge to Q at a place you never have or a place you haven’t in a while…I feel a challenge to all PAX brewing here. Anyways, in addition to arriving early, getting a lay of the land, deciding against a planned field trip, and laying out some cones, YHC also tried out some bike rack dips. Just too wide and unstable, this would not be used in the workout. But, you should try out everything at a site. Look for the unused portions of your grounds. A 2.0 and and FNG showed up, so YHC did adjust the workout slightly, but I will say, our FNG AND 2.0 held up just fine.

FNG’s: Welcome Seminole! Big Miami sports fan, loves The U!…when someone said Seminole, he hated it…so YHC decided that’s the name!
Warm Up: Mosey lap around the bus loop stopping along the way for SSH x40, Good Mornings x12, Sir Fazio Arm Circles x12 (F/R), Daisy Pickers x10, Squatted Seal Claps x10, and Imperial Walkers x12. Finished with standard Merkins x20.
The Workout: Mosey over to the front of the school and the knee wall for 20 Step Ups, and 30 Dips. On to the next Thang for 11’s. We had Bobby Boucher out there brushing up on his sprints! We started at the bottom of the parking lot ramp and would sprint to the top. On the bottom, it was Hand Release Merkins. At the top, it was WW1’s, with some great counts here and there by our 2.0, Shortstop. Moby…you got a great kid there!

Next up, we’d head back to the knee wall for 40 Irkins, 20 Prisoner Squats, and 10 Dirkins. This is where YHC realized he wanted the FNG to just get a relatively full taste of the various elements of an F3 workout. We got to most things but bear crawls and rock work so…

We went to the large driveway on the other side of the school for a short suicide routine between cones previously set up by YHC. 1st Cone was 10 burpees, 2nd cone was 20 standard merkins, 3rd cone was 30 star jumps. We the moseyed over for some wall work.

Wall work consisted of: People’s Chair for a 20 count per PAX, 20 Prisoner Squats, Ball to the Wall for a 10 count per PAX, Shoulder Taps x20 IC.

Mary: Finished with 15 counts IC of American Hammers, Homer to Marge, LBC, and Low Slow Flutter.
Announcements: Bed Builds in FV this weekend I believe, Jersey Mike’s Wednesday military missions in action fundraiser.
T-Claps (Recognition): Shortstop for taking up some counts during 11’s. Our FNG Seminole for more than keeping up.
Prayer: Quiver and sick/injured PAX, Bernie’s family member with infant in NICU. YHC took us out. Great to see some fellas I haven’t in a while.
