The Workout: Indian run to train tracks, 2 hand release merkins

Plan was to do 11s while carrying a steel railroad tie back and forth. Turns out railroad ties are way more unwieldy then I thought and that was not a reasonable option. Modified to some sort of rubber railroad tie they had.

Merkins on one side, WW2s on the other. After we got to 8 we cut it short and did 11 WW2s

Ran back to The Nest and found Dovetail! Still not quite in the right time zone from Vegas. We did 3 sets of irkins, derkins, and dips before Mary.

Mary: 15 HtM, 5 HtM left leg up, 5 HtM right leg up, 10 dead cockroaches. Each PAX then picked an exercise. 5 Captain Thors, Low slow flutter followed by 6 inch hold, 5 burpees (didn’t see that coming R22…), and X-men situps.

Warm Up: Mosey around the parking lot. 20 SSH IC, 15 Imperial Walkers IC, 15 Hillbillies IC, 10 Moroccan Nightclubs IC, Michael Phelps.

The Workout:

Modified Apple Turnovers: Bear crawl 2 parking spaces, merkin, flip over, WW2, crab walk back 2 parking spaces, WW2, flip over, merkin. Repeat 4 times OYO, then picked up the 6.

Moseyed to the wall for Ascending and Descending Testicles. YHC called out various degrees until his arms were jello. At 90 degrees, some of us discovered that we can get our feet over the top of the wall…file that away for another workout.

We then moseyed back to the parking lot for 4 Corners, Abs and Legs edition. PAX partnered up, each partner did 50 of an exercise while a second exercise was held.

At Corner 1, 50 squats, hold squat.

Mosey to Corner 2, 50 low slow flutter, hold legs 6 inches above ground.

Bear crawl to Corner 3, 50 star jumps, hold squat.

Mosey to Corner 4, 50 WW2s, hold legs 6 inches above ground. Crab walk back to Corner 1.

We then moseyed back to the wall for Ascending and Descending Testicles, round 2.

Finally, moseyed to the shelter.

Warm Up

A fun jog around Club Worx back to the tennis courts for warm up consisting of: 36 SSH for 36 months of F3 for me, good mornings, daisy pickers, imperial walkers and hill billy’s.

 

The Workout

  • Line up on the tennis courts for: wheel barrels, bear crawls, crawl bears, crab walk and reverse crab walks
  • Run to rock pile, grab rocks and then line up on soccer field for fun with rocks consisting of curls for the girls, ruh rohs, triceps extensions and LipSync’s 8 step full body lift that is actually only 6 steps. Between each arm exercise run to other end of field and back which included one 10 set of merkins for one of the runs because we were 20 minutes into the workout and haven’t done any merkins.
  • John Cusack to parking lot for down and back Bearly Curling.
  • Return rocks and separate into 2 groups of 8 so each brother can do 10 abyss merkins between 2 picnic tables while the other 7 did various experiences consisting of LBCs, WWII and monkey humpers
  • Run to little pavilion for 10 dips and then run to tennis courts for Mary consisting of Freddy Mercurys, low slow flutter, American hammers and 1 minute of have a nice day.

What Kind of Bullshit Exercise is This?

In an effort to make use of the Q Sheet, YHC is signing up to randomly Q through SW.  Today was a trip back to the hallowed grounds of Cletus, now with new and improved 5:30 AM start time.

EC was supposed to be a joint adventure at Deadbolt’s suggestion, but he (a) “Forgot” and (b) Chickened out of a Cletus beatdown given the threat of pull ups.  Something something rise to the challenge something set the bar higher something something.  So, a few of us (Cowboy, Cupid, UTI, Bernie, and YHC) hit up 2 miles of the chilly May morning before a proper boot camp.

The Workout:

Part 1, on the Courts:

5x Devil Burpees (Slap the floor; miss the jump shot; flop on defense; flip to pushup before overhead clap….1 rep)

Start with 1 legged Wheelbarrows (these are stupid hard, btw), go forward, sideways, then backwards.

Repeat with 1 legged Bear Crawl

Part 2, on the Playground:

Groups of 4 rotating exercise:

  • 5x Pullups
  • 5x Devil Burpees
  • 1 Legged Crawl Bear width of grounds
  • 10x WWII

Repeat 4x.  At some point Puddles provided the quote of the day (and title of this backblast)

Round 3, on the Hill:

Sprints while we waited for the 6.

This one is a bit of a blur.  We started with merkin bear crawls up the hill.  Every time your right foot came off the ground, a merkin was required.

Run back down, recover on the WWII.

Run backwards up the hill, Derkins off the fence.  Down the hill, recover on the WWII.  I think we did this 3-4 times.  Ending with some more Devil Burpees before one last trip backwards up the hill. There were hints of a Merlot on the last trip…

Brick Barrow 2

It was absolutely awesome getting to do my very first F3 workout again.  Even though I had breath taker it was still a pleasure to see how far I’ve come.  Thank you all for coming out for my 2 year anniversary workout.  I couldn’t ask for a better group of men that supported me in my F3 journey.  The accountability and fellowship matter, so much to me.   Without F3 I would probably be posting 3 times a week at a gym somewhere.  Making no real progress in life nor fitness.  I am truly grateful for every pax in South Wake.

FNGs: AAA — How we got here.  He looked like former Atlanta Braves Pitcher John Rocker.  At least this is according to Flanigan.  I guess Mr. Rocker had batteries thrown at him.  So AAA.

Warm Up:

Run by the road and end up at the place where we keep the bricks.  Each PAX grabbed two bricks.  We didn’t put the bricks down until the end of the workout.

The Workout:

Partner up.  Each partner ran in a different direction around the loop in front of the school.  When they meet up do a descending count by one from 10 to 1 of Broke Back Merkins with shoulder taps.  This means tap right shoulder, tap left shoulder, merkin.  That was one rep.  I remember this torching me my first workout and always wanted to see how I fared after a got used to F3.

After the Broke Back Merkins we jogged to the soccer field.  No one partner dropped his bricks so he can hold his partners feet.  We brick barrow across and back from the soccer field.  There was some beautiful picking up the six here.

Once everyone made it back we ran to the side of the school.  Next up was Moby’s favorite Jack Webs.  1 to 3 ratio.  We went up to 10 and 30.  I think my first workout I did very few at this point.  It was nice seeing what F3 has done for me from a fitness point of view.

Mary:

We jogged to the gate where we return the bricks, but we held on to them for a moment longer.

Pikachu dropped a gas bomb on us early on and it lingered for many long minutes in the stale air.  If the trees don’t eat it, neither should we.

Eleven for 11’s

11 PAX showed out in perfect weather conditions to get stronger. 62 degrees with low humidity. Great conditions for an early morning beatdown to include a field trip to the industrial park.

Wiggly was out due to allergies so I stepped in fresh off of a 4 day family cruise and ready to work off all the time spent sitting in front of a plate full of food from the buffet. (I did manage to get to the gym on the ship and work in a run – and did some rock climbing so not all eating and laying around. Also had a 4 year old to keep up with which sometimes feels like a workout.)

Rendevous with Rama

The theme of the day was “everything in 3’s”.  It was supposed to be a 3 mile EC, 3 Q’s, 3 stations, where pax in 3’s would rotate 3 sets of each workout.

But SkidMark is a jerk and guilted EH me into running a 4 mile EC.  Thanks to him, I PR’d 5k & 1 mile distances and set strava segment PR’s on pretty much every segment we ran.  Then somehow 22 guys showed up to the ‘Nut, throwing off the groups of 3.  And then my timing was rubbish so we didn’t get 3 reps in.  But, whatever, we pushed ourselves and got stronger.

As Dredd & Dark Helmet said on the 43 Ft Podcast, if you want to run faster, find someone faster than you and run with him.  If you want to get stronger, find someone stronger than you and work out with him.

F3 is a whole lot more than a selfish accountability fitness group.  But, I hope it’s at least that much for all of us.  Find someone who pushes you, and push yourself.  And once you realize another guy can help you get into better shape, think about how someone can be pushing you to be a better husband, a better father, a better employee, a better person.  Don’t let the impact of F3 be limited to your 5k Time or Merkin Reps.  #Accelerate

Led by Martini.  A lap, some SSH, Daisy Pickers, Good Morning, and Fazio Arm Circles.  Our FNG arrived midway through, a quick disclaimer was called, and we were off.
The Workout:

PAX split into groups of 3, with 2 cinder blocks per group.

Round1:

Cinder blocks curl their way to the playground, odd man run & do 5 burpees

Rotate through 1 legged Romanian Dead Lifts & Pull Ups, 10x each

Recover on the BTTW.  I think there were some merkins in there

Round2:

Cinder blocks tricep extend their way to the track, odd man run & do 10 burpees.  Da business demonstrated the agility we all expect from seasoned professional referees

1 Lap around the track in 3 man indian run.  Indian drops for a merkin before sprint to the front

Round3:

Head to the short wall.  You know, the short wall.  Yeah, the short wall.  Odd man 5 burpees

2 pax do Goblet Squats while 3rd does a BTTW crawl the length of the wall

14 PAX, 5 for EC, decided to swallow the DRP, climb out of the fartsack, and post at Disney to get stronger.  Q was happy to see Kotter, Buttwax, who showed up to complete his annual workout before returning to his “paid for” crossfit friends.

Warm Up: Quick lap around the soccer field, circled up for exercises in-cadence: SSH x30, Imperial walker x15, Hillbillies x15, Sir Fazio Arm Circles forward and back x10, Seal Claps x10

The Workout: In the parking lot, PAX paired up into groups of 4 or 5 for an Indian Run to complete the first part of the workout.  The first part was 2 laps of a circuit, with 4 pain stations, that went a long way around the soccer field so that we could include the hill on the green-way trail that leads up to the soccer fields.  PAX, in their group, ran from the parking lot to the stop sign at the bottom of the hill, station 1, then to the start of the hill at the green-way entrance, station 2, then up the hill to the track around the soccer field, station 3, then back to the parking lot where we started, station 4.  Exercises for station 1 and 3: 10 count of each diamond, standard, wide grip merkins.  Exercises for stations 2 and 4: 10 monkey humpers and 10 star jumps.  After completing the circuit, PAX lined up at the top of the hill in the parking lot that leads to the stop sign and were instructed that they would be doing an exercise together at the top of the hill, run down the hill to the stop sign, another exercise OYO, the run back to the top hill to hold plank or squat till the 6 was in.  There were 6 rounds of this routine that started with 10 monkey humpers in-cadence at the top and 10 sumo squat jumps at the bottom.  Repetitions for each exercise increased by 1 after each round.  Last round, sumo squat jumps were skipped and PAX were instructed to run from the stop sign and back to the top of the parking lot for Mary.

T-Claps (Recognition): During the EC run Aquaman said he was on a secret mission, until Warbucks and YHC got him to spill the beans.  He is not very good a secrets.  Aquaman wanted to complete EC at a sub-8 minute pace and Warbucks and YHC were happy to help him complete that mission and paced him to the finish.  Not only did Aquaman get sub-8, he completed EC with a 7:38 pace and a PR for 1 and 2 miles!  Props to Aquaman for accelerating his fitness!
